Bush supports workers over capital. The fact that donors aren't supporting her is a warning light about which group Democratic leadership cares about.Laife Fulk wrote: ↑Oct 31, 2023She's almost entirely out of cash. Are donors not supporting her at all? Yes, our political system is broken when campaign finances matter, but it's still a warning light of sorts that her campaign isn't in good financial shape. Someone was going to challenge her in the primary, so regardless of if it was Bell or someone else, I think she was at risk regardless..

It’s nice in principle that she supports workers over capital. But what has she actually gotten accomplished for her constituents? I believe she played a role in extending the CARES Act. Other than that, her resume seems pretty brief.MarkHaversham wrote:Bush supports workers over capital. What has any 3-year congressman achieved for their constituents? Congress is totally gridlocked. She’s achieved for her constituents just as much as any democrat in the HOR has achieved for their constituents over the last 3 years.

Someone correct me if I'm remembering wrong... but one unique thing I remember her getting some credit for, was advocating for the city getting a larger disbursement of the American Rescue Plan. Even though we have a lower population, but because we are the city center and regional hub we got a pretty large disbursement... again, I don't remember the details specifically.
My understanding was that Bush's team worked to have counties and cities counted separately under the ARP and because St. Louis City is somewhat unique in that it is both a city and a county, it got to double dip for money.

Starting today Missourians can start collecting signatures to restore and codify the Roe compromise into law via a vote of Missourians.
But I fear that even though a majority of Missourians want to restore Roe, it will fail here. Because, as I understand it, there are 2 versions collecting signatures. Unrestricted abortions for 24 weeks or unrestricted for 12 weeks.
Apparently with enough signatures, our partisan Mo Supreme Court will allow both of these questions on the same ballot. Yes / No votes.
The scheme is - the pro-choice vote is 60%, but will be split between the 2 questions. 35% yes for version 1 & no on version 2, 35% yes for version 2 and no on version 1, and 30% yes for both versions.
So out of 100 votes, 40 will be pro life votes of no on both, 35% of 60%=21 will be no on version 1 from pro-choices, and 21 will be no on version 2 from pro-choices.
So Version 1 will fail with 40+21=61 no to 39 yes, and Version 2 will also fail 40+21=61 no to 39 yes.
Both will fail. Clever.
If either version was on separate ballots on different days, one or both would pass.

So as long as someone can say yes to both, they just need to heavily market to the most pro-choice community to vote 'yes' on any version of expanded access. Those who draw a principled line at 12wks will naturally vote their conscience and very likely the 12wk option will pass which wouldn't satisfy everyone but it will give some choice. I wouldn't bet against it just yet.gary kreie wrote: ↑Nov 22, 2023The scheme is - the pro-choice vote is 60%, but will be split between the 2 questions. 35% yes for version 1 & no on version 2, 35% yes for version 2 and no on version 1, and 30% yes for both versions.

Weren't the Mary J votes an up/down on each? I'm recalling I voted in favor of several of them at once on at least one occasion. If this was a "pick one" sort of deal I'd be concerned, but so long as each one is a separate race, which I suspect is the way it would work, then I'm not too worried. Vote in favor of any and all you think are good, and against any or all that concern you. There was some competition between MJ initiatives, since different interests backed each. Someone won and someone lost, but it ended up legal in the end. I expect this will work out similarly. (Just . . . get it on the ballot.)gary kreie wrote: ↑Nov 25, 2023Yes if everyone votes for both, the one with the most votes will win. But they will likely campaign against each other which will doom both. Which exactly the sneaky scheme.

Missouri lawmakers weigh tax credit program for office to apartment conversions

A new tax credit program introduced in the Legislature would offer incentives to developers who convert unused office space, much of it mothballed amid a shift to remote work, into new apartments and retail.
Backers of the legislation say it’s particularly crucial for downtown St. Louis, where a quarter of the office space was vacant at the end of last year. That’s well above the 16% vacancy rate commercial real estate firm CBRE measured across the metro area. “With this legislation, Missouri really has a tremendous opportunity to become a national leader in the conversion of vacant, unproductive office space into vibrant residential space in downtowns and main streets,” Adam Kazda, vice president of government relations for business group Greater St. Louis Inc., told the Missouri House Economic Development Committee during a hearing Wednesday. “This is a top priority of the St. Louis business community.”

Spoke too soon
A statewide baseline would eliminate that confusion by requiring localities that have already adopted building codes to use the state standard or something stricter if desired, Hinderliter said. He added the law wouldn’t apply to portions of the state without any building codes unless they wanted to adopt them.
