woah...  Something is broken in how our rail system is structured.  Derailment at 15 miles an hour on straight and level track should be nigh impossible.

^ I saw a Facebook comment on an STL Rail Fan page that claimed two people had been arrested in connection with it. But I’ve seen nothing in the news.

^^Something (several somethings, really) is definitely broken. You're not wrong about that.

Anyone know what's going on with the road construction on Wabash/McCausland under the railroad tracks by the railyard? I've not been able to find any info on what they're doing.

Did I miss the news on this? The closure seems to have come out of nowhere.

Or did they find something on an inspection and this is an "emergency" repair?

I don’t know.  Would be a better question for BNSF.

Only thing I’ve seen is the GRG post, but I haven’t bothered looking for anything else. There might be something out there.

Sorry I asked.

^ I just said I don’t know, but it’s BNSF trackage so they might have some information. I don’t know how to find that though.

Sorry to offend you.

BNSF contractors have been working on that bridge for a couple months now without blocking the road. Looked like they were working on the steel previously, and it's now moving into the ballast, ties, and rails. Sorely needed work. That bridge has been looking rough for a long time. Like many things with US railroads, they push the useful life as far as possible before spending any money, because spending money cuts into profit. I don't mean to say it looked like it was ready for collapse, just that it has needed more than basic maintenance for quite a while.

I'm sure work needs to be done and that it's completely justified.

All I'm saying is it came out of nowhere. I'm not demanding a hand written note delivered to my door; but that I didn't see anything any no entity (the City or the railroad) put up an advance sign.

^Yeah, me too. There's not even good detour signage if you hit it coming up River des Peres. Ended up taking Shrewsbury to Big Bend, but in retrospect Jamieson would probably have worked better, since I really wanted to shoot up McCausland. That Lindenwood Park/Maplewood boundary just isn't an area I know all that well.

There was an electronic sign set up in the median on Wabash coming from Landsdowne that mentioned the road closure but it was only set up last weekend/at the very beginning of the week so there was only a couple days' warning and only if you happened to come from that direction and read the sign. Glad I saw it and was able to prepare in advance, but it really was not a lot of forewarning for anyone.

$11m project is being applied for at EWG for 4th/Broadway to narrow them and do streetscape. The project is almost fully funded but looking to get $3m at EWG from the Transportation Alternatives pot, I think GSL is leading the effort, they had me send a letter of support

In addition to a rebuild of 4th between Chouteau and Convention, it looks like Washington between 3rd and 14th will also get a rebuild.  Looks like Convention might also get a bike lane...my guess would be a connection between the 7th Street Improvement and the Landing:

Anyone have any idea of when this, and some of the other projects are actually happening? Feels like the tower grove connector and tucker blvd improvements were funded ages ago and there has been no movement.

^It's really pathetic, I don't even know who to blame because of the labyrinth of STL City bureaucracy but I sure would like to hear at least an explanation from Scott Ogilvie.
