1. At least one of the bigger companies should move its offices to downtown. What happened to Nestle Purina?
2. AT&T is enforcing hybrid model from September? Will we see more folks on the street?
3. Need more restaurants and fast food places
4. Need 99 trolley back in service
5. Need to improve security around downtown in general. More police patrols, more monitoring, more lighting, more foot traffic, more speeding enforcement.
6. Need more public events. Is July 4th going to be in the arch grounds?

Because office work is never coming back to what it was in any part of the U.S., I think downtown STL should forgo chasing companies and office workers. At the same time, against DT STL, downtown Clayton has won the war for the hearts/minds of the business execs who choose where to put their companies. Emerson as an example.
Instead, DT STL should go almost all-in on residential and entertainment. So, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc. Sports, restaurants, museums, etc.

My wife got her ATT marching orders to be back in office by Sept 5th. Not sure if that will be 3 or full 5 days a week and we are out west so not sure if Sept 5th is company wide date or not. Nestle Purina has had their couple thousand employees back 4 days a week for some time. Again, JJG never said that this company wasn't worthy of any reporting, and in fact stated the opposite. Clearly the frustration was with BizJournal's shoddy reporting stating, apparently repeatedly, that the company is something it's not. 3. 35 have opened since covid started and 26 closed. +9
4. Downtown Link operates now, free hailing service all over downtown
5. Millions has been spent on improved lighting in the last 5 years. For people to feel safe patrols would have to be during the day, when nothing happens anyway
6. 4th of July is at the arch this year but just 1 day event. There are 5 Market off Market events at 7th between market and pine starting June 24th
August 11-13 is Blues Festival at the Arch

I'm slowly learning from former colleagues that for every one person in StL who will be returning to the office, at least one will have his or her job moved to Dallas. Most people whose positions are moving to Dallas will not have to go into any StL office temporarily while they plan their move (or leave). My office downtown is open and I could turn up any time but I haven't yet and unless it's mandated I probably never will.
My preference would be to be in office every day because I believe that sort of normalcy is needed for a healthy life but it's too late for that now. You can't do a human experiment on people for 2+ years and then say "ok, let's get back to normal!". Nope, too late, you screwed this up.
I've barely cut my hair in three years. All my decent work pants have been cut off into shorts. I can't remain seated for more than a half hour. I get a lot of work done while I would be showering and riding my bike to work.
There's no going back although I miss the way things used to be. I miss downtown. I miss slugging pints at lunch. I miss the bike ride.
But it's over. Things have changed.

It's not just St. Louis. They have major centers of employment in San Ramon (SF), Chicago, New Jersey (x2), Atlanta, LA, and Bothell (Seattle). I'm probably missing a couple. People have been working from those areas for years, either in office or remote. Many of them are being told to relocate to Dallas to keep their jobs, which is a non starter for many who have roots in the areas that they're in. It depends on the business unit; as I said, IT is letting people stay in one of the above cities (working from the office) if they want, but eventually they'll be pulled into Dallas as well. That includes practically everyone in the Data Center downtown. For other business units, they are saying their entire national workforce will have to move to Dallas to keep their jobs. What's it take to get rid of the terrible stoplight timers downtown? Pedestrians shouldn't have to choose between repeatedly waiting a minute-plus and crossing against the light. You'd think this would be an easy fix.
It's depressing that instead of working to fix, we just added more of the corridor-based garbage by the soccer stadium, with super-long greens for Olive and Market and super-short walks for N/S traffic, and walk signals that only turn after you press a beg button.
Even lightly traveled streets like Market east of Tucker are on the Corridor system, with incredibly long lights.
Additionally, there are at least a couple stoplights where pedestrians are expected to cross only on one side, 16th at Market, 16th at Olive.
