There was a shooting call Saturday (?) morning that looked like it was probably that homeless/druggie park across from City Hall/Civil Courts building, but I don't think that made news.

It's not just the actual reported crime that scares me. There's so much stuff that only appears on police stats like that and like whatever this was:

I don't think the random shootouts where nobody is hit even show up in crime stats, do they? Cops just drive by, see nothing and leave.

^ if the person is caught that does the firing it shows up at weapons law violation, there was about 1400 of those last year

The Tucker shooting today started at murder shell, I assume a deal gone bad.

They need to shut that Shell down. That alone would help make downtown safer.

^^ Exactly that, I would guess.

Man shot and killed after fight in downtown St. Louis
https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/cri ... the-latest
Witnesses of the shooting told police the man was shot by a gunman after the two fought minutes earlier down the street near a Shell gas station on Convention Plaza, Cousins said. The man was chased across the street before being shot. Police have not learned what sparked the argument.
I don't know why people get so bent out of shape about these things...don't you know our esteemed legislators want us settling scores with easily accessible guns?  Sarcasm, obviously...but maybe not that far off lmao:

Missouri lawmaker floats proposal derided as ‘Make Murder Legal Act’
https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/cri ... -top-story
...legislation introduced by Rep. Ben Baker, R-Neosho, would establish a presumption that a defendant acted reasonably in self-defense when they use deadly force against another person.  Baker acknowledged the change is opposed by county prosecutors and police, but said he thinks it is a starting point for expanding the state’s “stand your ground” law.
.............
The Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys, in a statement issued in May, slammed the legislation, saying it would prohibit police from detaining any murderer who shouted “self-defense” and would grant violent killers absolute immunity for their crimes.

Not that I disagree with closing it, but we're going to be busy if we shut down every gas station with frequent crime.

A pretty high number of killings in public happen at gas stations, it seems.  The one at 14th and Cass is frequently a crime scene. There was one in soulard that was in the news lately for multiple killings.

The one at 14th and chouteau seems crimey, as do the ones just south of downtown on Broadway.

That one on St. Louis Ave deemed a nuisance is still open last I saw. Is it being appealed?

We would be busy, but I think it's absolutely the right move. Gas stations specifically tend to be magnets for crime in a lot of areas, I think taking a broader view it's an example of how car dependent infrastructure in general tends to be crime friendly.

You sound like the mayor at a neighborhood association meeting - when asked why the police does not do anything about expired tags, she replied saying "well, then they would not have time for anything else". What kind of answer is that?

That sounds about right. If they're not going to enforce it then they need to get rid of it.

Can we get an updated of these? I really liked the historical look. Understand if too time consuming to catch-up.

Here is 2019-2024

I still dont know what happened last year, i called SLMPD to see where the issue is but never heard back.  Month to month is 180 but December month shows 13 for month and 200 for year. I wonder if they double counted justifiable as part of those that get counted.  2022 is only year where month to month doesnt add up to the final year number on the Dec report

Unenforced/rarely enforced laws are regularly only enforced to the benefit of people with money. See the nuisance gas station in Old North.

Sure - here it is. I haven't been posting it only because I haven't updated those previous years to the "post-updated" totals.

The video of the homeless man being murdered downtown in broad daylight is going viral now with over 1.7M views. Not a great couple weeks for STL’s already horrible reputation

Why was I under the impression that the City was already in the process of shutting down the Shell? Was that only temporary?

Might as well cancel the convention center expansion. Seriously. Who the hell is gonna plan a trip to Downtown St. Louis anymore. I give up.
