Looks like they already gave up on the crosswalk and pedestrian island at Choteau and St. Ange (just west of 14th). Everything is ripped up and we're back to "normal".

It was taken out several months ago after it was repeatedly driven over. I know. Sometime last fall something went over one of the islands and left a ton of oil over the road. The lights didn't last long but I thought the concrete was there until recently. Either way, nice try and fail.MattnSTL wrote: ↑Feb 03, 2023It was taken out several months ago after it was repeatedly driven over. ^The oil and crash debris that was there is all the evidence that is needed that those basic pedestrian refuges should be there. Taking it out was the wrong response.

Passed today during the full board, final passage Friday, but it should be noted that this just allocates money, we really have no good way to spend it quickly or even medium term

^^&^^^That sounds remarkably hopeful. I'm deeply glad to see traffic circles in the mix. I know my neighbors don't like them much yet, but after walking and driving in the UK for several months I've become a believer. They're not a panacea, but they surely seem to help. All in all this sounds like a great plan. The difference the traffic calming made in Carondelet Park is the difference between night and day.

I wonder how jumpy city officials are after the above mentioned Choteau measures were given up on so quickly? Are they afraid that if they do something by Ted Drewes and someone still gets hurt that they'll be sued?quincunx wrote: ↑Apr 10, 2023KSDK - Frustrations arise as safety measures for Chippewa Street still not in place

^^ What are they planning at FPP and Skinker? Hadn't heard or seen anything about that.

Similar to improvements at Forsyth & Skinker:
"
... outlined the following improvements to enhance safety for all users:
> Improvements to ADA accessibility at the corners of the intersection
> Modifications to make crosswalks highly visible
> Adjustments in signal operations to reduce conflicts and allow more time for pedestrians to cross
> Separate crosswalks for bicycles and pedestrians similar to the approach implemented at the Skinker and Lindell and Skinker and Forsyth intersections
> Installation of bollards at the corners to enhance awareness for drivers and pedestrians

MoDOT plans safety upgrades on Page, MLK in north St. Louis
https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/modot-plans-safety-upgrades-on-page-mlk-in-north-st-louis/article_22168622-e5f9-11ed-988d-0fd96628c86f.html#tracking-source=home-the-latestTwo years after revamping the city’s portion of Natural Bridge Avenue to try to reduce deadly crashes and cut speeding, state officials plan another traffic safety project on Page Boulevard and part of Martin Luther King Drive.
The Natural Bridge changes included reducing the number of driving lanes, mid-block crosswalks with rapid flashing beacons, medians and roundabouts. There also were traffic light upgrades and bump-out curbs.
“We’ll have some of the same goals on Page,” said Jen Wade, the Missouri Department of Transportation’s area engineer for the city.
But she said details of what actually will be done will be based in part on feedback from residents and businesses along the project corridor, some from an upcoming MoDOT briefing session. That “open house”-style gathering will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 11 at the Better Family Life Center, 5415 Page.

Encouraging news, but MoDOT really needs to tweak how it applies its design standards to urban corridors. A lot of Natural Bridge looks straight-up ridiculous with all the excess pavementairforceguy1 wrote: ↑Apr 29, 2023MoDOT plans safety upgrades on Page, MLK in north St. Louishttps://www.stltoday.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/modot-plans-safety-upgrades-on-page-mlk-in-north-st-louis/article_22168622-e5f9-11ed-988d-0fd96628c86f.html#tracking-source=home-the-latestTwo years after revamping the city’s portion of Natural Bridge Avenue to try to reduce deadly crashes and cut speeding, state officials plan another traffic safety project on Page Boulevard and part of Martin Luther King Drive.

BUT SERIOUSLY SHOW WHAT NOT CALMING TRAFFIC DOES TO US!!
SHOW WHAT THE CONSEQUENCES OF ONES IDIOTIC DRIVING!!
On December 10th 1989 the first TAC [Transportation Accident Commission, Victoria] commercial went to air. In that year there were 776 deaths on our roads, by 2008 that number had fallen to 303.
This five minute retrospective of road safety campaigns is a compilation of 20 year of TAC ads. The montage features iconic scenes and images from commercials that have helped change the way we drive, to the song Everybody Hurts by REM.
This TAC campaign is a chance to revisit some of the images that have been engraved on our memories, remember the many thousands of people who have been affected by road trauma and remind us all that for everyone's sake; please, drive safely.
There's no one someone won't miss.
Towards Zero is a TAC vision for a future free of deaths and serious injuries on our roads.
It acknowledges that as humans, we make mistakes. But when those mistakes happen on our roads we come off second best, because our bodies aren't designed to absorb high impact speeds. They never have been and never will be.
