While neither party is perfect, nor even great, it's a denial of reality to say they're the same. I can list democratic policies that have passed that have improved my life and GOP policies that have done the reverse. We can harp and moan all day, but I know what makes my life worse vs. what doesn't and in some cases even improves it. It can be argued that neither have your best interests at heart, and I may even believe that, but for those without the privileged position of being unaffected by government policy it's clear which parties actions have a positive effect on our lives.
Neither party's actions have a net positive effect on our lives. We have a wholly vibes-based electoral system. I mean, Democrats refusing to use the majority to rein in the GOP makes them complicit in anything bad you think the GOP is doing, even ignoring anything bad the Democrats do directly. But mostly they both are pro-corporate pro-capitalist pro-cruelty pro-crime parties, and the differences are largely minutia.

I just wholeheartedly disagree with the assertion that nothing they do benefits me given that there are things they have done that have benefited me. If the argument is they don't do anything to stop the GOP, I would somewhat agree, but I'd still prefer a neutral bystander over a party doing active harm and will vote accordingly.

Listen, Republican Party isn’t a party anymore, it’s been a cult for 5 years now.  I voted for Roy Blunt, there is no more room for Roy Blunts in todays GOP.  This is now a party/cult who is conspiracy driven, bullies gay children, transgender children, bullies teachers, doctors, immigrants, offers no actual solutions to anything other than fear porn.  It spent $7,000,000,000 above revenue the 4 years trump was in office, the fiscally Conservative party mind you.    Im sorry I’m not sorry that democrats pushing for children to live their life how they want bothers you or that women makes medical decisions for themselves bothers you or that minorities should get a leg up after 20 decades of 2 legs down.

Take your political blinders off. Both sides, especially the far 20 percent of left and right, are cults. Both sides have bat-sh*t crazy beliefs or politics.

Trump lost the election because he was a leader for the far right. The same is going to happen to Biden.

One day, one of the two parties is going to wake up and realize if they appeal to the middle 60 percent, they’ll win every election in a landslide.

10% of what the left does is annoying but it’s just that it’s annoying, I just tune it out. 60-75% of the GOP is now squarely in the Trump cult.

That only 10 perfect of the left is nothing more than “annoying”. That’s tone death/lacking in self awareness in my opinion and a good example of what’s wrong with the Democratic Party right now.

However, I don’t think his comment about the right is too far off. Probably about right around 60 percent of the GOP is with Trump. However, I think that’s going to change a lot over the next 24 months as Desantis will win the ticket with either Youngkin from VA, Zeldin from NY or Scott from SC as running mates.

What conspiracy-driven or cult-like belief would you say is driving more than 10% of the left?

I don’t want to get in the left vs right stuff.

He made a statement implying that only 10 percent of the left is “far left” and that they’re really not that bad, just annoying. I just think that percentage is much bigger than DB thinks and I don’t think “annoying” is the best word to describe what the overall majority of the US thinks of the far left.

Is it the S word?  SOCIALISM! 👻

Student debt forgiveness, how to use public safety dollars, how much to tax the rich, what to do about fossil fuels, clean energy etc, those are all policy debates that can and should be debated

There is nothing to debate weather a transgender kid should exist. Nothing. Nothing to debate about who a gay man or woman can marry.

I'm fine if you don't want to get into it, while what db said sounds accurate to me, I'm open to other viewpoints if you can give me any examples. So far I haven't seen any evidence of any individual or narrative on the left amassing anything close to the fervid cult-like following dominating the right.

Why don’t you all just shut the f*ck up and take this national political rambling to another site.

The idiocy in here is astounding. And I’m not talking about DB’s posts.

This is a thread about crime in St. Louis. F*ck off with this other off topic bullsh*t already.

Assuming you work for a living, half your income has been funneled into the hands of corporations with bipartisan cooperation of our corporate parties. What have Democrats done that's better than roughly a million dollars in your pocket? And to bring things back to the topic, how much crime would we have if trillions of dollars of wealth in the hands of the top 1% were instead in the hands of the poor? What if we built houses and gardens instead of police SUVs? What if we confiscated empty real estate to house the homeless?

It's the crime thread, not the police blotter thread. It makes no sense to restrict political discussion of crime. Crime is explicitly created by national politicians for the sake of pressuring workers. "No politics in the crime thread" when we just criminalized women missing their periods.

Most of the factors that drive local crime are highly driven by federal economic policy. StL is unique because of its exceptionally fractious political geography, but for the most part its problems are the same as any other midsized rust belt city.

^^ Despite your weak attempt to steer the thread back on topic, the previous comments speak for themselves.

Just a bunch of ignorant lefties and right wingers pissing into the wind on an urban development forum.

You’ll get a better reception on Reddit.

. . . meanwhile; how 'bout that sheriff's deputy - in uniform, mind you - getting robbed of his gun and carjacked Downtown after the Blues game the other night?

^I'm guessing the comment section (I won't look) on that one was light since the deputy was visibly armed and that complicates their theories that if everyone was armed no one would be victims.
