I don't know if his word is worth much these days, but St. Louis literally can't afford to have two board presidents go down to the feds consecutively.
Hah, DB you do seem to have a weakness for unsubstantiated statements.
For instance I’m still waiting for your cryptic reasoning for why airport privatization was dropped.
And if Green did something shady, sure the law should catch up with her as well. Until such a time, this is merely a smear attempt.

Is the BoA Pres race going to be mainly about who is more corrupt? Guh.

JCM is the one that said it. Talk to him.imran wrote: ↑Aug 24, 2022Hah, DB you do seem to have a weakness for unsubstantiated statements.

You’re the one repeating it here so that accountability is on you…dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Aug 24, 2022JCM is the one that said it. Talk to him.imran wrote: ↑Aug 24, 2022Hah, DB you do seem to have a weakness for unsubstantiated statements.

And let me ask you a third time to answer my question about the airport deal after you made some tall claims…
Counterpoint: St. Louis can't afford to continue being run by a bunch of crooks. I fully support federal indictments for any/all of them if there's a reason to do so.RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Aug 24, 2022I don't know if his word is worth much these days, but St. Louis literally can't afford to have two board presidents go down to the feds consecutively.

^ thank you
Iirc Lacy Clay also was favoring a vote on it which annoyed Lyda.
If true, it goes back to the idea that the deal was not as popular as you may have thought…
Back to board of Aldermen

JCM and Megan Green were enemies on the Board as far as I'm concerned, so it seems to me like a desperate attempt to pull her down with them than something worth taking seriously.

Yeah, JCM's word is at-best dubious right now. Maybe, just maybe, he's got a real story to tell here, in which case that's one he better tell to the Feds and the prosecution. He's already singing some songs right now, so who knows. I don't think he'd BS a story to the Feds just to knock down a supposed political opponent from his former job, as that's lying to federal agents + perjury to the courts. Plus, that'd be against someone who already just pleaded guilty to heavy stuff, i.e. that's a conviction to general population right there. I suppose that means something to the veracity of his statements, but FFS any federal agent and prosecutor better tell him to STFU as this all gets sorted out!
I'm still pro-Jack. This doesn't change my opinion of either candidate right now.

Neither are great candidates. I haven't had to interact with Green in the past, so she hasn't lost my vote, yet.
But, how long will we have to deal with either of them? Isn't there another election after this for President? This is just interim, correct?

I really can't make up my mind on who to vote for, though I do plan to vote in the September primary if only for the hell of it. I know it's largely meaningless, but I think it's going to be a good litmus test for who ultimately wins in November.
I think Jack Coatar has a strong inside edge on Megan Green, according to everything that I've read and seen, but there is something that seems so old hat about him, so establishment and par-for-the-course, that I have reservations about him. The Post-Dispatch recently illustrated the picture of one of his fundraisers largely being attended by former leadership that did not move this city forward and I'm highly reluctant to vote for a new chapter in that book.
That said, he seems to be far more pro-development than Megan Green and that may sway me.

There will be another election in March 2023

Whoever wins the November 2022 election is highly likely to win the March 2023 election.imran wrote: ↑Aug 24, 2022There will be another election in March 2023bwcrow1s wrote: ↑Aug 24, 2022Neither are great candidates. I haven't had to interact with Green in the past, so she hasn't lost my vote, yet.

For what its worth I think we would benefit from a balance of power in the city. If Green is elected the power structure will lean heavily toward the progressive agenda. My vote will go to Jack as I believe his position will help address a greater set of needs and wants for the wide spectrum of issues and opportunities we are facing.

yes and no, i think Oldenburg would put up a serious challenge to Green if she wins this round.RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Aug 24, 2022Whoever wins the November 2022 election is highly likely to win the March 2023 election.imran wrote: ↑Aug 24, 2022There will be another election in March 2023bwcrow1s wrote: ↑Aug 24, 2022Neither are great candidates. next month is pretty worthless, the make up of the electorate will be totally different in Nov, which will favor Coatar since he will get most of the SW City GOP vote that will turn out for the general, he still needs to hold the line on North City where Megan has never done well in previous City wide runs/and half of north city in her state senate run. He will need to get good with a few family dynasties on the north side to get their machine working for him.
end of the day its just a numbers game, yes both will run on X Y and Z but again its just a numbers game.
I like that Green has policy statements on her website, while Coatar has a list which is buried on his about page rather than the front page. I'd like him to elaborates more.

Is there really that much of a SW City GOP vote anymore? I just sort of assumed that the same dynamics that have turned the inner suburbs blue would have done the same to the neighborhoods in southwest city.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Aug 24, 2022next month is pretty worthless, the make up of the electorate will be totally different in Nov, which will favor Coatar since he will get most of the SW City GOP vote that will turn out for the general, he still needs to hold the line on North City where Megan has never done well in previous City wide runs/and half of north city in her state senate run. Of course the kind of Republican turned Democrat in that area would probably support Coatar over Greene regardless so the end result would still be the same.
I wonder how much Jones endorsement will help shore up Green in north city, where as you noted she has not done well in previous elections. Valentine-Busch did quite well in that part of the city after she won the mayor's endorsement even though Lucas Kunce was seen as the more progressive choice in the Senate primary.

^ between wards 10,11,12,13,16 and 23 Trump got about 13,000 votes in 2020. Including 2000 (29%) in 23, 2500 in 16th (32%) and 2269 (35%) in the 12th
21,500 total or about 15% citywide

Biden did very well in SW City, lots of Catholics voted for him. I think the key is that there is a considerable conservative cohort in SW City who vote in Democratic primaries for local offices whether or not they vote Republican or Democrat in November.
Interesting to me that Coatar supporters on the forum seem to tout his support among Trump voters in SW City as a good thing for who he'll be accountable to as Mayor but whatever!

I echo the “what?”
Nobody is touting it, as I said above it’s all a numbers game and the reality of the numbers game is if a voter went for trump and they vote in November of this year they’re more likely (very likely) to vote for Coatar over Green. Only thing that matters in campaigns is that you finish with more votes than your opponent, everything else is sausage making
