Kind of ridiculous to attack Green for primarily caring about the ward she represents!

I have no problem with Coatar. He seems competent enough. But I very much like Green and how she has approached her tenure. She's grown into the job nicely. And even some of her youthful indiscretions, for instance some immodest comments on Reed, have proven almost prophetic. She has my vote. Lord, but I wish I had an alderwoman like that.

If people don’t like Megan Green or Jack Coatar, just write-in Bill Haas. The man may be gone, but you know he’d be trying to be on the ballot for this one. He might not have stood much of a chance in any race, but I appreciated his hustle to get on the ballot for as many races as possible.

^This isn't a race I'm going to get rid of friends over. I like Green, but I can respect folks who support other people, so long as they haven't drunk the Q-aid or gotten themselves handed serious federal indictments recently.

I can't forget when Coatar was shepherding the NFL stadium bill through the BoA, Jane Dueker just gushing on the radio at his leadership on it. Made me think he was being groomed for a mayoral run. Maybe it's not fair the Coatar, but it sure left a bad taste in my mouth that I have difficulty setting aside.

Is it even possible to write in a candidate with the new approval voting process? Wouldn’t that bypass the signatures-needed rule to get on the ballot?

FWIW, Megan is my Alder, and I've been really impressed with how available she is via email, social media mention, or phone call...  even if its just a question about a project, board bill, etc.

Not sure if Coatar shepherding the bill is what left a bad taste —but the NFL stadium bill was 'dog and pony' and necessary piece to trap the NFL in their lie. They knew that bill would never be reality as the NFL were moving the Rams regardless.

Not so much, though sure I didn't support the new NFL stadium effort, but it was Dueker's gushing that I'm talking about here.

Wow, the amount of hyperbolic drama in this thread is incredible... Let's all take a moment and realize that there really isn't very much difference between Jack Coatar and Megan Green where it comes to actual policy. All this "Lux Living checks!!!" crap is overdone comparable to saying "but his emails!!!" or "Hunter Coatar's laptop!!!"

The City will decide whether it wants a blue dog or a progressive in that seat. Both are reasonably quite ethical and have done well for their ward constituents. Personally, I'm going to vote for Jack because I'm more of a blue dog than a progressive; I have more confidence in him being able to handle more than the day-to-day responsibilities of an alderman; and quite honestly I just know him much better than I do Megan and am glad to stand up for his character whether candidate or not. He's smart, he's personable, and when I lived in Soulard, he represented our interests very well while keeping himself quite available to his constituents there.

Meanwhile, the degree to which some of y'all are painting the candidate in this race you're not going to vote for, it's honestly quite extreme. Remember, politics is about the art of negotiation and fighting for what's possible. When you make your opponent out as a devil incarnate, it's hard to bury that hatchet afterwards. When it happens for an inter-party primary race? Really? House divided, you guys.

^Thank you. I think both are good Alders. I have my preferences, and I will vote, but I respect both. Both represent healthy wards, and both seem to be respected by their constituents. That says something. Good to inject some rationality into this. If Coatar wins this I'm confident he will do well. If Green wins, I'm confident she will as well. And I even expect they'll probably work together like grown-ups.

Ooh, valid point that. I may not have liked the bill, but if I'm completely honest, I'd be quite happy had the Rams stayed. Might even watch a football game every now and then. As it stands . . . I'm quite happy to have some of Stan's cash to spend it on things to make our city even less like what he calls it.

I've seen them as well. Not sure if this is the work of his most ardent fans or if he really plans another comeback bid. The signs seem to have been altered with sharpies to make them say 8th ward instead of 9th.
