Looks like the photo is in that BizJournals article.

Yeah that’s the Birmingham project, though the developer has said the one here will have a similar design.

Not bad really.

Yeah, apologies for not citing my source.  It is from the Biz Journal article and came with the following caption:
"Aptitude Development, the New Jersey company that wants to build a seven-story student housing complex called The Marshall in St. Louis' Midtown, is building a similar project in Birmingham by the same name. The Birmingham project broke ground in November 2020 and is slated to open in summer 2022.

We can do better. More and larger windows (like The Marshall Arkansas) and less expanses of cheap siding (like The Marshall Syracuse or The Marshall Birmingham) would go a long way. Hopefully this process that Chris described results in some improvement over Birmingham:

"The Midtown Redevelopment Corporation reviews the projects and can have a say in the design. If they don't like it, they'll say so."

Because the City Foundry garage will be Green? Or you just don't like the color?

Green looks great in nature, but I think it's a horrible color for buildings.

If the rendering is their project in Birmingham, the green may be a way of tying the building to UAB's school colors.

^This. If you scroll through their website, most of their projects are versions of beige with one bold or bright color accent.

It could be brown, it could be blue, it could be violet sky...

...but probably blue.

  • Architect is Kitchen and Associates of Collingswood, New Jersey.
  • No tax incentives are to be sought by Aptitude.
  • The building will be clad in brick, stucco, metal, and glass.
  • The parking garage entrance will be on Vandeventer.
  • There will be no retail space on Forest Park, but lobby and amenity spaces should activate it some.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm satisfied with the design and can't wait to see this rise with Foundry Phase II.

Would love to see a proposal for the grass lot catty-corner from this in the next few years.

Agreed ^ That grass lot is ripe for a nice tall apartment.

And that intersection needs some serious traffic calming.

I'd also love to see the St. Louis Community Credit Union, Minuteman Press, and Circle K just down the street redeveloped into something else as well.

That might not happen until the Forest Park Ave. and Grand Ave. intersection is fixed, though.

So is the area listed as "leasing" a retail space or just a leasing office?

Leasing office. There’s also no external door to the sidewalk from the leasing office.
