While we haven't seen AB contributing to this on a corporate level, I don't think German travelers to STL will necessarily want to consume much AB product anyways. However, I think they'll really, really love STL's Brewery scene. The German/Traditional line at Urban Chestnut is going to hit these German tourists' palates perfectly, and that's just one of the dozens of microbreweries we have right now. I also just posted a comment on the Train thread how they'll likely also want to visit Missouri Wine Country and small towns like Hermann, taking in the "American Rhineland".

Meanwhile, I'm remembering an old conversation I had with former poster @the count about the potential STL has for European tourists wanting to experience American music. STL really is the birthplace of rock music (eat it, Cleveland!), being the home of Chuck Berry and Ike Turner. We're also the home of Tina Turner (i.e. the much better Turner), Josephine Baker, Scott Joplin, and Miles Davis (all of whom we need to do a much better job of celebrating!). STL is home to the National Blues Museum, and soon to be home to a Gospel Music museum in the CWE. We also have a solid jazz community here, recognizing Jazz St. Louis and the new jazz center announced today at HSSU. We have a whole lot of great blues venues, like BB's, Broadway Oyster Bar, and Hammerstone's. Germans will flip their heads over live music played outside Blues City Deli on Saturdays.

Our uniquely STL music and beer scenes really are things that we take for granted that Germans will fly to experience.

I would add - there are strong ties within the Techno Scene's between Germany and STL.

They've wasted no time with getting the advertisements up and running. Just got this banner ad this morning:
There was an electronic billboard running this ad this morning on Manchester.
This was a few hours after the announcement

Where?  It's mostly D&B and bass in general.  Trust does some shows and that's about it.

That's from Greater St. Louis, Inc. Very good PR work by them, as it should be. The key is when Lufthansa's local advertising will kick in.

I used to be regular at upstairs lounge, 2720, all the electronic music mainstays of 2005-2018 and this was exactly my thought as well. The entire electronic music "scene" in STL is probably a couple hundred people at best. Maybe a few thousands kids at any given time are regular attendees but nothing enough to warrant any sort of notoriety in a techno capital like Germany. Outside of Alexis Tucci and a few of her associates, I don't see any STL DJs being able to book even a small gig in Germany.

I don't know any STL DJ's who are touring or playing legit venues outside of STL.  A few large-scale midwest rave events (outdoors), but not large venues/clubs in major US cities.  STL also lacks a true underground touring presence.  B&W may do a rare show at Club Europe or Old Rock House, but the majority of their shows are in St. Chuck featuring cheeky EDM DJ's in a casino club with no real vibe.  I will say Nightchaser is doing some relevant stuff especially on the House tip, but Tech-house is a world-wide phenomenon that seems to be passing STL by completely.  Same with underground Techno.  Deep house?  Can't even find it.  In Chicago there are proper shows every weekend in multiple venues.  STL deserves better.  At least ONE venue focused on proper presentation of the art is badly needed.

I was googling A330-300 vs 737 for size comparison. This image came up. It'll be nice to see planes of this size back at Lambert on a regular basis.

Looks like Indy didn’t get the British Airways flight they were hoping for. Really glad our business community was able to secure Frankfurt for us.

Looks like they chose Pittsburgh and Portland, OR for expansion in 2022.

I will be flying a new Iberia A330-300 Miami to Madrid on Christmas Eve.  With Southwest's new service into MIA - it is an easy connection now to this flight.  AA always flew to STL to MIA but I am not a lover of AA.  I choose to fly SWA out of STL since they commit to STL as a connection hub and we can fly most places nonstop domestic on them.

Well that sucks!  They had a good incentive for them too.  I think BA is a little stretched thin on their North America schedule with pilots and equipment.

A widebody, yes. Not the biggest of big boys, but a decent sized aircraft. An A330-300 is fairly comparable to a 767-300. Not quite as large as an A350, B777, or 747, but still definitely big. A bit bigger than an L-1011, which we probably saw more of than 747s even at the best of times. (Which is fine, as the L-1011s were fabulous planes.) I may hope we see an A340 substituted in every once in a while, but an A330 is a good catch. They're nice planes. I've ridden Delta and China Eastern examples. No complaints.

Not the biggest, but probably the biggest Lambert will see on a regular basis.

I think we flew an L-1011 to London back in '97

I want to say that one or two of the STL-LGA routes for TWA also used L-1011s. STL-LAX also might have had one.

STL to JFK also used an L-1011. (I rode that one myself.) The Puerto Rico and Honolulu flights used 747s at least part of the time. (747s were a fairly common sight until TWA retired the type. Maybe even after on charters.) And I suspect every airline will sub in a larger aircraft for seasonal/holiday spikes if the traffic justifies it and a suitable bird is available. At least on my 1992 schedule here's the widebody service. At least in 1992 the widebody fleet was a mix of L-1011s, 747s, and 767s. I have no knowledge of what was assigned generally, just of what I saw myself and what I've seen in videos.

So here goes:

845 to Albuquerque (huh!)
150 to Boston
810 to Boston, Paris, and Tel Aviv (MnTuWd) or Cairo (TrFrSt)
326 to Chicago
758 to _ and Frankfurt (It shows as a one stop, but darned if I can it. Maybe it was just a fueling stop. 741 flew the reverse itinerary and stopped a JFK, but I can't find 758 as a possible leg on New York bound flights coming from western stations.)
720 to Gatwick
31, 91, 171, and 721 to LA
492 to Miami and San Juan
818 to Paris and Munich
468, 140, and 444 to LaGuardia (and 300 got upgauged on Sundays.)
844 to JFK, Paris, and Rome
70 to Newark (Weekends only. Was a narrowbody otherwise.)
450 to Orlando
98 to Philadelphia and JFK
97 to San Diego
99 to San Diego and LA
183, and 71 to San Francisco
177 to San Francisco and LA
249 to San Jose
144 to San Juan
375 to SeaTac and Portland

Most of these were daily flights, so there was a LOT of widebody service in and out of the airport. If you see old videos there's more or less always a few widebodies at the high C gates, and sometimes at the East Terminal as well.

The downside of this is you have two separate tickets and have to reclaim & recheck any checked bags.  Additionally, if you had booked one ticket on AA/IB, in the event of a misconnection you'd be reprotected.  That won't happen with separate tickets.

Going to Cancun for and then to STL, connecting to Chicago. Do you need to go back up to the main check in to check bags?

Typically yes, you have to collect your luggage when arriving in an international flight even if you are connecting. Many airlines have little booths right outside international arrivals when you can drop off luggage if you are connecting
