I'll be flying this at least 5 times a year with 1 stop connection to Madrid Espana
I don’t know if I did it wrong, but looking at June 1st, I ended up with $3151.87 for a roundtrip. Kindly declined this number. I also got confused on their website because three boxes came up about different prices and the one they wanted me to select was the most expensive. I guess I’m confused.

I used Kayak and found a $879+ roundtrip to Barcelona in September same for Frankfurt.
I think prices are competitive and best thing is is a straight flight to Europe!

What's the advantage of flying straight to Frankfurt instead of connection through an American airport?
- Not going through some horrible hellhole like O'Hare, Atlanta or JFK/LGA.
- Option to do train if going to other parts of Europe.

^ biggest advantage for me is coming home directly. I hate coming back to another, going through customs, waiting for connecting flight. It’s extra 6-8 hours
Yeah I was thinking Frankfurt is only 4 hours by train to Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam. 3 hour to Brussels. Being so centrally located makes it a great option.

Does anyone, even anecdotally, have an idea about the breakdown in numbers of passengers from St. Louis to continental Europe versus just to London?
^ From the PD:
https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/gov ... op-story-1Pre-pandemic, about 385 people per day were flying from St. Louis to Europe, she said, with about 51 going to Germany — the second-most popular destination behind the United Kingdom, which garnered about 56 a day. Germany should quickly become the most popular European destination from Lambert, she said, and those European travel counts should only grow with the nonstop route.
When I was a teen we flew TWA non-stop to Frankfurt and took the train down to Stuttgart to visit family it was super easy. Frankfurt being such a huge business center is so well connected.Ebsy wrote: ↑Dec 15, 2021Yeah I was thinking Frankfurt is only 4 hours by train to Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam. 3 hour to Brussels. Hope we make it worth their while
Fares are skyrocketing on domestic airfares for 2022 as well.
In January, I am flying on Southwest to Miami (r/t $220.00) then flying Iberia nonstop MIA to MAD (Madrid) at 1700.00 economy plus (includes seat choice and 1 bag checked).
So all together 2000.00 r/t one person.

My flight to Miami in January, roundtrip, is $132. I wonder if pricing depends on the day you reserve and how far our. Or else, sales bring down prices. I'm just surprised that prices are going up so much.matguy70 wrote: ↑Dec 15, 2021Fares are skyrocketing on domestic airfares for 2022 as well.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturday usually are a fair amount cheaper. Friday/Sunday/Monday are the most.

I believe you can add Singapore and also both Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi, if you don't mind changing carriers mid-stream. Vietnam Airlines, had nonstops to Frankfurt from both their hubs. And the timing isn't even terrible. It's an eight hour flight from here to Frankfurt. FRA to SGN is only thirteen hours. That's very comparable to the current options, but you're removing a connection, so you might just come out ahead.RuskiSTL wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2021Thanks, I'll take a stab at cross-referencing. I've bolded the new one stops below and in parentheses listed existing 1stops. Take with a healthy dose of salt, I'm sure there are a fair number of mistakes. Would be really interesting to see a breakdown or even overview of some of the new possibilities![]()

All that said, I doubt it's cost competitive or convenient since VN is SkyTeam. (Who wants to give up that kind of mileage?) But for really long haul destinations with a flag carrier inside Star Alliance, like Bangkok or Singapore, it might just work out better even if it is counterintuitive.
TATL fares are probably the highest they have been in a decade. I paid a record price to go back home for Christmas and booked way in advance. If I tried to book now I'd be paying fares that are equivalent to TATL business for economy.
As others have mentioned, Frankfurt is a massive rail hub and a significant chunk of Central/Western Europe is accessible via high speed and non-high speed rail. You can get to Paris, Berlin or Amsterdam in ~4 hours.
As db said, it is way better to do customs/immigration on arrival than having to do it at a connecting airport. I've lost count of how many connections I missed at EWR or ORD due to slow immigration.

I think is going to help actually. O’hare is going to be the first airport in the nation that it can have 4 take-off and landings simultaneously. But still like this step for STL!!dweebe wrote:Plus O'Hare is only going to get worse once they start the ORD21 $8.5 billion airport terminal remodel.kipfilet wrote: ↑Dec 15, 2021TATL fares are probably the highest they have been in a decade. I understand and am not saying it won't be much better after the work is done. What I am saying though is ORD is going to be an even more miserable experience than it currently is to connect through while the project is going on.JJ Taino wrote: ↑Dec 15, 2021I think is going to help actually. Curious will StL be paying more for this airline than it’s peer cities

The Lufthansa announcement is a huge win for St Louis, and not just from the passenger side. Frank Naeve, Lufthansa's VP-Sales, the Americas made a point of mentioning that a substantial amount of high value cargo will also be transported on these flights. So, it's also a big win on the logistics side as well. StL P-D has a video with his comments on their website.
Frankfurt Airport is way, way, WAY better than London Heathrow. FRA is much better organized than LHR and the ICE trains run next to Terminal 1.
Again, huge win for St Louis! Who saw Lufthansa coming?!?
