Here's their fleet. Which ones can make it here? I suspect it won't be a 747.

My guess is a 777 or a 787 or an Airbus in that same capacity range.
I think the 787 flying between Pittsburgh and London was around 215 passengers. With the corporate connections and the larger metro size I could maybe see STL being slightly above that…but I wouldn’t think too much more.

I assume A330 but A340 has similar configs. 340 would be coolquincunx wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2021Here's their fleet. Which ones can make it here? I suspect it won't be a 747.

Yeah that looks like a price with a connecting flight to STL probably from Chicago, so it may end up being even cheaper when its direct.ldai_phs wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2021LH has similar listings for a bunch of cities they don’t fly to, even Omaha. Do we know how much Port Authority is paying Lufthansa for these flights?

I’d guess listing a start date and saying it flies to “list of cities including STL and not ones it doesn’t fly to” means it is new.ldai_phs wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2021LH has similar listings for a bunch of cities they don’t fly to, even Omaha. Almost, if not all, USA nonstop destinations are on their A330s, 340s, and Chicago/NYC/LA have 747squincunx wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2021Here's their fleet. Which ones can make it here? I suspect it won't be a 747.

However, not sure if this money was used. It was set aside years ago, yet the article doesn't say they used it. I am sure we will hear tmmrw.quincunx wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2021StlToday - Germany’s Lufthansa to launch nonstop service from St. Louis to Frankfurt

Either one will be cool, but the 340 would be especially neat. I guess they actually have more of the 340s, at least until they start retiring them as the 787s hit. This is a fantastic excuse to visit friends in Germany. (And also to take lots of pictures at the airport.)jshank83 wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2021I assume A330 but A340 has similar configs. 340 would be coolquincunx wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2021Here's their fleet. I remember back in 2008-09 the Lufthansa ticket counter prop in C concourse that was made for the Matt Damon movie "The Informant." Glad to see that is not a prop, but a reality now.
Does that mean Lambert will finally reopen the far end of C concourse again?
Will Lufthansa be using the the C34-C38 gates in C concourse? Those gates were designed with customs and immigration in mind during the TWA days. I don't think an A330 or B787 would fit well at E33 in Terminal 2.

A18 and C28 are both widebody gates. I assume it will use one of those.10-intuition wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2021I remember back in 2008-09 the Lufthansa ticket counter prop in C concourse that was made for the Matt Damon movie "The Informant." Glad to see that is not a prop, but a reality now.

They will have to at least offload at E29. It will block E31 also while they do it.
@jshank83 do you know which new 1-stop destinations this opens up?
This listed destinations. Depending on how connections line up Anything Lufthansa or Eurowings/Eurowings discover in theory should be an option.
Plus Star partner flights, but I’m guessing most those already are one stop.

Essentially every single medium sized city in Europe is now 1-stop. Major cities were already non-stop via EWR/JFK, but this opens up a lot of "second-tier" cities that did not have super easy access from the US (think places that only have direct seasonal flights like Lyon, Naples, Athens, Oporto, etc.)
Really excited about this direct flight, especially for the "second tier" element that kipfilet mentioned.
One thing I'm curious about - the exact amount and length of the subsidy. Cities our size (PIT, CIN, IND) don't get direct Euro service without rather large subsidies to the airline. Which regional entities are supply the $$ here. (I just can't imagine Gov Hee Haw throwing any money at this. Dude hates STL.)

^ ^Yup! And, as posters are pointing out on airliners.net, we have a large Bosnian population that now has another option back home.
Seems like the only real question remaining is which gate(s) will be used? We know the frequency (x3), do we know the days or time as well? I checked a week in July but didn't see any nonstops.

Congrats to Rhonda, Brian K., and the rest of the STL team! Color me impressed. I never would have bet on LH given their conservative nature in their long haul expansion and given the large gauge nature of their fleet.
Hopefully this service is a success and will lead to BA and ultimately additional economic development for the greater STL region.
As for the facilities and logistics I suspect everything will be at E. LH could take the west end of the E ticketing hall and also have use of the Wingtips Lounge. Airport Terminal Services (ATS) which is a spin-off from TW, also manages the LH-branded lounge at DTW. I believe the federal inspection facility in C is completely mothballed.

Also places east like Bangkok, Singapore, etc. And many cities (like Moscow), you have technically 1 stop through NYC but you have either an airport change or really inconvenient layovers / very few choices. Frankfurt gives you a lot more possibilities on those.kipfilet wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2021Essentially every single medium sized city in Europe is now 1-stop. Would be really interesting to see a breakdown or even overview of some of the new possibilities
I figured it had to come up in the years of forum debates fantasizing about FRA vs. LHR vs. CDG. So happy to see a fruitful end to those debates!jshank83 wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2021That is way down on my list to figure out.RuskiSTL wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2021Haha I know!
