Why settle?

Obviously we don't know the number just yet, but if St. Louis can guarantee a few billion now then money in hand definitely speaks. Going to trial is still risky, and even if it did turn out in STL's favor (which I think we all believe was likely), it would have been years of appeals before any money actually got paid out.

So, is the settlement just with Kroenke? Or is the NFL still named in a separate suit?

It appears to be a whole sale settlement
Could this be enough money for the city and county to dedicate it all for build NS metrolink?

Oh man....  I got a bad feeling about this....  Like the feeling I used to get earlier in my professional career just before a potential employer was gonna totally low ball me....

Looks like the lawyers got a whiff of “a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.”

It’s basically total cost of the Dome ($720) + 15m spent on effort to keep the team + 10-15 years worth of lost tax revenue

In 2024 Stan also gets an option to buy the earth city facility for $1, don’t be surprised if that’s part of the deal, that he gives up that option

Hearing $800m
Taking $800MM instead of forcing the NFL to face it's day in court and the potential for Billions is a huge letdown if this is indeed true.

KSDK is now reporting it as “as much as $800m”

I hope they offer to knock a few dollars off the settlement with a public apology and 2 mins total air time for local visitor and tourism ads during the Super Bowl for the next five years.

If $800MM is number then I’m calculating $86MM to all 3 entities.

There isn’t 50% going to the tort fund as this isn’t punitive damages, those are the only thing that goes into the fund. So it’s $520/3

It’s official, $790,000,000

Great, 800m lowball that the cynic in me thinks will be diverted to broken street lights and potholes until the next generation of street lights and pothole repairs come along that we cannot afford to pay as before.

I know I've jumped the gun a bit so I'll hold back ever so slightly till we get an official announcement.

Utterly pathetic.

Blitz and Co like the lawyers that they are were more concerned with their pound of flesh than the bigger picture.

Hopefully the recently passed infrastructure bill cover those types of things and we can be proactive as opposed to reactive with this money.

Did I want more? Absolutely. But this is a huge amount of money for the area. We can still do transformative work with this

I am very excited to see where this goes.

I assume most of this money will go towards convention center and dome maintenance or demo

I know this won’t stop anyone from being cynical… BUT even a year ago this outcome was hard to believe. $790m is not a win for the NFL.

Everything that said $1b+ or a team were hype media.

TLDR: be thankful we got anything!

Who are the three parties? City, county, regional sports commission? Is the money split evenly between those 3? How is that decided?

Is this settling the entire lawsuit?  Or just Kroenke's portion of it?

If it's all over for $790MM, the way it'll get split up between lawyers, county, city, and any other parties will make this have far less impact than the number would seem at first.

35 percent for the lawyers isn't it?
