The Engineer's Club on Lindell is getting a rehab. This is a great Mid-Century building; I sure hope they don't muck it up:

Here's another article from the Construction News. Not sure what's going on, but the color of the building sure looks different. Anybody know how much they're planning to change on this building? Do historic codes protect it?

I believe that rendering is looking at the east side of the building from the parking lot - that area is currently landscaping - Looks like the plan is convert the lawn in front to a plaza and relocate main entry to the east

I like the new interior renderings, but the exterior looks atrocious. They are really going to paint all of the brick grey and what's currently patina? Hideous. I really hope they decide to keep the exterior as it is. Who is this architecture firm and where are they located?

For better or for worse, this gets started this month. I just don't know why they're (apparently) going to paint the brickwork. You'd think engineers would know better.

Wow. Millions to galvanize the underuse of prime real estate.

I guess I'm the only one around here that values this building.

Not at all framer. I love that building. I was at a convention in it years back and I was really quite impressed. It's a neat little space. I don't like the paint on the brick any more than you do, but I'm really quite glad we're not losing it.

Might be a good idea to move this thread to the Central Corridor - Residential section.

Lux Living is proposing a 200-unit apartment building on the parking lot that surrounds the Engineers' Club. The main Engineers' building will be repurposed as an amenity space with the roof being peeled back. Remiger Design is the architect on this one.

I like the nods to the Engineers' building at the base of the new structure.

Looks pretty decent.  Guess that 2016 renovation never got off the ground.

^I have a few fond memories of meetings in the space many years ago. And it's a quite attractive building. I seem to recall the main lobby and auditorium are fairly attractive. The lobby is clearly gone and likely the interior of the auditorium as well, but the facade is probably the most notable part and at least they're saving that.

This rendering looks great. I'm also stoked that they are preserving the shell of another mid-century modern building. I would like to see this one come to reality.

The Central West End is exploding with development. It will have a very different feel in the next 5-10 years.

41 Lindell (232 units), Engineer's Club (200 units), and Optimist International (147 units) would add 579 new apartments along a 3 block stretch of Lindell (N Sarah to N Taylor). The Bridge (156 units) and Cortex K (162 units) on track on the northern and southern ends of the neighborhood. CWE is rolling.

We also don’t know the final result of what will be proposed at 490 North Kingshighway (I know the basics though but am not going to share). There are two other projects in the immediate neighborhood that I’m aware of right now that could be announced in the coming months, but they’re still early.

So, add three to the list that add another 680 units to the Central West End.

And if the other Cortex apartment building returns, add another 262.

It'd also be good to see the 4915 West Pine project resurrected.

Was this the project you were teasing about earlier? Or still another CWE project in the pipeline? I was hoping for something in the Euclid x Lindell spot

This is the one I was teasing. But you still have a few others in the pipeline, two of which have been discussed previously and one that has not been discussed.

Euclid and Lindell is an interesting site and from my understanding, the Kindred Hospital has a land lease on that parking lot that makes it difficult to buy and develop. I’m sure someone could work a deal out where Kindred gets parking and a new building can go up, just it would be tricky at this point. But if development keeps up in the neighborhood, I could see it happening towards the end of this decade.

This is a good looking building. Lux Living's product seems to be improving with each new project.

it's decent but that's a lot of curb cut.

I think the new curb cut is a fair trade off since they're wiping out the existing huge parking lot in its entirety.

New architects = new perspective on design and details. Happy to have recommended HOK and Remiger Design to them.

Absolutely LOVE the shape of the pool. That hexagon is another tribute to the engineering building in addition to salvaging the triangular roof. If you look on google maps you can actually see that same hexagon on the roof, right where the pool will be. I wonder how the interior will look. Hopefully they continue the use of geometric patterns in the interior to pay homage to the original building. I wish they would have been a bit more daring with the overall exterior design of the residential portion though. Minor critiques aside, this is an absolute win.
