This quote from Grandpa Governor really stood out to me:
So News 4 took the issue straight to Parson. He says it was meant more as a message to the Biden administration, but acknowledges something has to change.
So basically these rabid partisan hacks were so concerned with sending a message to Biden they didn't even stop to see how it would affect local law enforcement and the ability to fight violent crime.  Talk about being pro-police! /s

I spent a few years lobbying the MO General Assembly about a decade ago and was astounded at the high level of hackery, partisan and just general dipshittery. It's only gotten worse since then.

To answer Corporate's rhetorical question, there are absolutely some morons in Jeff City who would consider bounties on cops enforcing federal gun laws. Their logic would be that only communist cops in the city who don't support the second amendment would be affected. I wish I were being facetious.

People have a hard time understanding that,  at this point, there is basically nothing separating our legislators from the average resident of our state. Anyone with any shred of experience has been termed out, lobbyists write almost all the bills, and the House is so dominated by the Speaker/Majority Leader that the rest of the members might as well not show up and vote. The Senate is a bit better but there are some true dullards in there as well. And this is not a partisan issue, the Democrats are just as if not more incompetent than the Republicans, as what ambitious and competent person would run for state legislator as a Democrat when they are permanently stuck in the super minority?

I recently got a parking ticket for having my car parked on the street for 5 days in a row (not related to street cleaning). I had never had that happen before, and my car is routinely parked in one spot for more than 5 days because I do not drive to work. I looked it up and it is in city code, but seems unnecessary to me. I can see a car without plates, expired tags, derelict/not driveable, but otherwise ticketing a car on a residential street because its parked in one spot for 5 or more days doesn't seem to serve any pressing public function.
5 days seems a little overboard, but I do support having some sort of stipulation of how often a car must be moved. I'd probably do it at 7 days. The reason being, I have a neighbor who routinely parks one of his cars directly in front of my house, and parking on my street is cramped enough that when this happens I often have to park down the street several houses away. I don't have a problem with him parking his car in front of my house occasionally when there is nowhere else to park. I do have a problem with him parking it in front of my house right before Memorial Day weekend, going out of town for more than a week, and leaving it sitting there until June 8th , which happened a few months ago. I didn't bother doing anything about it this time, but the next time he leaves it there for more than a week, I'm probably gonna notify the city about it. I've got no gripe with someone leaving their car parked in front of their own house for an extended period of time. But don't leave your monstrous SUV parked in front of my house for 11 days.

I personally would say 30 days minimum. As someone who has lived in the city with street parking as my only option, I don’t want a ticket on my car if I’m out of town for 2 weeks. It’s a public street, if someone wants to park in front of someone else house so be it. I get it can be annoying but it is what it is.

This is giving me flashbacks to dogtown threads.

I agree 30 days should be the limit. I also travel for work and to visit family and sometimes I leave for 15-28 days in a row. I don’t mind people parking in front of my house
As long the car is running, with tags, and not junked there.

I don't think I've ever noticed not being able to park in front of my house on the street. Sometimes it's open sometimes it isn't. At worst I have to park on the other side of the block, which is annoying, but not worth disparaging whomever parked in front of my house. It public parking.

I would scrap that policy altogether tbh. We have street sweeper days to force people to move their cars once a month. Either your car is parked legally or illegally. If a car is abandoned it's not like anybody is going to pay those tickets anyways.

Local police and federal agents searching for suspect linked to murders of multiple women

^Serious question here. Recognizing that there is a believed serial killer currently stalking working girls in STL Metro; who has killed already and will likely continue killing; who uses a gun in his killings; and for which local law enforcement (SLMPD) has called in the FBI to assist...

Are SLMPD's actions a direct obvious violation of that new second amendment law against MO municipalities proactively working with the Federal government on gun-related crimes?

Can the City be sued because they're working with the FBI on a gun-using serial killer currently at large?

Anyone in the media who reads this forum:
Can you ask the Governor what he thinks should be done here?
Should the City work with the FBI to catch this serial killer, even though doing so violates Missouri law that he just signed into being?

From someone at SLMPD. They know who the person is. They know where he is operating. They’re keeping marked police cars out of view in the this neighborhood. It’s a very tense situation right now

Updated for September (assuming nothing happened yesterday).  Biggest blip for September was the weekend with 8 murders mentioned upthread. Still managed to come lower than last year, but up from 2013 - 2017.

I have an old file I'm trying to track down where I had some all of the TCI and violent crime data mapped... I'm hoping to add some of that to this monthly. (would like to post these here more often once my new job calms down)

I guess we're not the only city where business leaders threaten to move due to crime:

Armed gangs robbing vehicles isn't just a city problem. How nice. Maybe MO's former-sheriff governor can round up a posse to bring these outlaws to justice.

^these events are planned on social media. San Jose has cracked down on those who plan these events online

This is the way to go with stopping these events in the future. Infiltrate the group pages to stop these things before they start.

Buried at the bottom of this story is some tremendous news,  the City police dispatch center has recently filled 22 of 25 vacancies.

Yeah that is great news. 5-10 min hold time for a dispatcher is a bit unnerving.

Yep just shared that about the dispatcher vacancies filled on Nextdoor. We'll wait to see how long before people find some reason to be negative about it lol.

KMOV: Man arrested for hit-and-run that left former SLUH teacher dead

Mr. Aylward was one of my teachers my senior year, AP Modern Euro History. He was an incredibly sharp professor who really was important to my learning to think critically, to understand variables such as precedent actions, contrasting viewpoints, and causality, both direct & indirect. He was hard but fair and would work with his students. His death is our collective loss.

From the article:
A statement released by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said warrants will be applied on at the Circuit Attorney's Office.
I'm really hoping the Circuit Attorney's Office files charges. From a conversation I had last night with a prosecutor not in the City, he thought they weren't going to do so. That would be a crime in itself.
