The lease stipulated an 11 PM stop for serving food and drink. It also addressed music volume and source to clearly eliminate a nightclub set-up. Even with the operator breaking these expectations the business can't pay rent on time. Why the business continues to fight to stay open is a head scratcher. Maybe they hope John Taffer will "rescue" them.
I asked myself the same question! First question is how do you fall behind, don’t follow the rules on the contract, you become a magnet for shootings and somehow remains open!STLinCHI wrote:The lease stipulated an 11 PM stop for serving food and drink. Lol, Reign's lawyer defense seems to be that Downtown is so dangerous already that Reign is not necessarily making it more dangerous

This entire situation is a carbon copy of a nuisance club which was shut down 5 years ago in Chicago's River North DT neighborhood. Nouveau was granted a LL based on a restaurant concept. They lied and operated a nightclub. Issues spilled out into the street and shootings occurred. The ownership claimed unfair targeting due to race because other clubs operated just blocks away and had large numbers of police calls (although nothing involving guns/homicides). Just last year two more LL's in the same neighborhood (Concrete Cowboy and Bottled Blonde) were pulled due to violent nuisance issues. Both bars served predominantly white clientele. This is how it should be done. Level playing field for all operators. Civil behavior in our society is eroding with each passing year and the race card is irrelevant when it comes to operational success. A high-volume liquor establishment is a very unique business to run. Inexperienced operators have these problems. Dana Kelly has no experience. She's in way over her head.

Just a FYI. City has no “nightclub” in its zoning code and when you apply for a permit you really can’t put nightclub. You could in theory put “dance hall” but the zoning definition makes no sense. Also LL isn’t issued based on a use of the biz. Occupancy permit- use. LL- right to sell booze
Again I think the City will have better luck at the 9/20 nuisance property hearing this a very technical LL hearing

Amen! I have mentioned this before as well. I grew up in Humboldt Park and family lives in Logan Square and have seen this even in our predominantly Puerto Rican neighborhood. Regardless of race if you’re in the wrong you should be shut!STLinCHI wrote:This entire situation is a carbon copy of a nuisance club which was shut down 5 years ago in Chicago's River North DT neighborhood. Reign's liquor license has been suspended pending the conclusion of the hearing on the remaining counts on September 27. The findings of fact and conclusions of law in the Detriment Order lead me to believe that the suspension will become a revocation, but we'll see.

Wonder if the 9/27 hearing will be necessary if the property is bordered up on 9/20
NAACP joins the fry
Great news! Hopefully is permanent! That place was out of control.

But they need to;
-pay their rent
-get a security plan in place
-stop thinking the rules don’t apply to them.
If I’m Reign I look to move away from Washington Ave and residential. Maybe someplace less volatile west of Jefferson along Locust? And someplace with cheaper rent?
Art district? Doubt they will allow it there as well. I’m dancing on their grave? If I was they dogged they’re own.dweebe wrote:I’m not dancing on their supposed grave.JJ Rivera wrote: ↑Sep 11, 2021Great news! Hopefully is permanent! That place was out of control.

You just mentioned the reasons why they got shut! Me and most residents here are happy plus some of my friends who own businesses here are happy as well.
You either step up to the plate when asked or you will fail. It wasn’t no ones fault but theirs.

This whole situation is unfortunate and par for the course for a divided st.Louis. You’re still too new here to realize some things. You know what should have happened last December when the shooting (according to city police had nothing to do with reign) happened, the alderman, Jack Coatar, should have gone to reign and said it doesn’t matter who’s fault it is but this cannot happen again let’s work together and find a way to keep your customers safe, downtown residents, to keep 80-100 people you employ working and to keep generating tax revenue instead of this property being vacant. Why didn’t Jack do that? Jack doesn’t like Dana Kelly because of Dana’s ex husband who was a State Representative and a leader of the black lives movement in st.Louis (he’s moved to Arizona since). That’s stl. It’s always political and it’s always racial. Just watch the 9/16 liquor license hearing for Margaretta that wants to open at Bobby’s place next to reign. Owner is black. Watch who shows up to oppose it.JJ Rivera wrote: ↑Sep 11, 2021Art district? Doubt they will allow it there as well. I’m dancing on their grave? Since Reign closed on Friday
2 people shot at the Wheelhouse (1000 Spruce)
1 person shot and killed at Shell station at 13th and Convention

That shell gas station is a drug market! Went there once saw two drug transactions and was like yep this is not the place to be! Lol…dbInSouthCity wrote:Since Reign closed on Friday

I heard correct me if I’m wrong it wasn’t at the wheelhouse it was car to car and the guy that got shot got out of the car and someone called the 911.
I still believe the police officer inside vans don’t help it all. They should be doing like in Chicago groups of 3-4 all over the place walking and ready to move.

Police usually give the nearest address, like 1000 spruce. Shooting happened at 1:30am when the 2 nightclubs there close for the night….did this start inside and spill out? So let Reign off the hook and let them go back to doing whatever they want? Gotcha.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Sep 12, 2021Since Reign closed on Friday

What? I just posted about shootings at other establishments since reign closure 48 hours ago.
Nice try with the “shot at the Wheelhouse”dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Sep 12, 2021Since Reign closed on Friday

The first shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. inside an apartment in the 1000 block of Spruce between 11th and 10th Streets. Police said a 19-year-old man had got into an argument with an unidentified suspect. During the confrontation, the suspect shot the teen in his torso. A 17-year-old girl was also shot in her arm.
