I'm confident they'll find new, even dumber ways of shooting themselves in the foot.sc4mayor wrote: ↑Jun 23, 2021^ Yeah you’re right. Definitely should have worded that better. I don’t want them to leave…but listening to the state’s AG office attempt to defend themselves in court is so damn embarrassing, I just can’t see this happening any other way.
And honestly Andrew Koenig, Mike Parson and the rest of MoLeg who refused to see the will of the voters (regardless of what Centene does) deserve to have their faces rubbed into the consequences of their actions.
If Jeff City reverses course on the Medicaid decision and proceeds as voters intended, I'd still lay money on Neirdorff quickly pivoting to another reason why he is headed out of town. His track record has him laying out as many convenient excuses as possible to provide cover for what is strictly a money grab in NC.
Agreed, but Jeff City gave him the perfect out, and even if they reverse course, he can claim it's a sign of worse things to come and still jump ship without facing much public backlash, (not that public backlash likely factors in much to a company in their field), given Parsons has officially issued a "go bleep yourself" to his company essentially.
With people like Parsons, Eric Gritens, Josh Hawley, and Mark McClowsky trying to be the ones to represent our state, I don't know if our public image in Missouri has ever been worse or been represented but such an awful collection of people who constantly just play political theater to the detriment of those living in their own state.

Forget Jeff City revisiting this anytime soon. It's trending heavily in the wrong direction.

Greater STL, Inc. is reacting...
STL Biz Journal: Business group says court ruling on Medicaid expansion 'should not be the final word'
STL is showing that we want CNC to remain in STL & MO, even as Jeff City is shoving them.
STL Biz Journal: Business group says court ruling on Medicaid expansion 'should not be the final word'
So, yeah, the STL Chamber of Commerce, i.e. business community, is backing this going to the appellate level, with speed. Intently curious to see what happens next...Jason Hall, CEO of local economic development agency Greater St. Louis Inc., said in a statement Wednesday that "the Missouri State Motto says that the welfare of the people shall be the supreme law."
"As such, the Court's ruling today should not be the final word." he said. "The people have spoken, and we believe their voice should be heard at the appellate court level so that expansion of Medicaid can move forward and so that we can send a signal that Missouri is open to business and investment."
The group has argued expanding Medicaid will spur job creation.
Some Republicans have argued the state can't afford expansion.
The CEO of St. Louis' largest public company, Michael Neidorff of Centene Corp., has criticized the state's failure to expand the program. Clayton-based Centene is a provider of managed care programs for Medicaid and Medicare beneficiaries.

Noticed Jason Hall shared a pro-Centene article on LinkedIn - hopefully that means Greater Inc and Centene are talking. (bit of a stretch hope, but still)
Did anyone notice the full page congratulatory ad in the Post from the STL Chamber of Commerce for Centene being ranked No. 24 in the Fortune 500? The chamber seems to be pulling out all stops!
I would be shocked if they aren’t.pattimagee wrote: ↑Jun 24, 2021Noticed Jason Hall shared a pro-Centene article on LinkedIn - hopefully that means Greater Inc and Centene are talking. (bit of a stretch hope, but still)
I'll honor the paywall for what is a really solid get by reporter STLBJ Reporter Jacob Kirn. Not cutting/pasting the story myself.

The optimistic take: Neidorff has been so public with complaints - foundational complaints that are basically true, mind you - because he wants to affect change in STL. He's a STL fan.
The cynical take: Neidorff is building cover to move the HQ, excessively fixated on *relatively* minor things (i.e. turnstiles at Metrolink has to be like the #113 worst thing here.)
The BPV anecdotes are laughably sad. parking...he and DeWitt quibbled about PARKING or Centene may be downtown. f&cking parking. this town is f#cking obsessed with parking. Walk more STL, you could use the exercise.

BPV would have been a fantastic location for an office serviced by light rail. Much better than the current HQ. Maybe we would be on CW 2 or 3 by now if they had gone down there.
^ Starting to lean towards the fact that BPV at end of day might be better without Centene. First, from the viewpoint on how much parking was Centene actually looking for and then why? Considering how much parking you already have near Busch and how much Centene/Clayco built in Clayton before putting the brakes on. Maybe double what has already been built and then some. It has taken longer and yes downtown missed out on those jobs but BPV could turn out to be a really nice project with another residential tower and office component. In addition, 300 S Broadway being redeveloped and OPUS Spruce street infill, so on. Second, looking at MLS ownership first build out separate of stadium being a parking garage at 1900 Olive and in hindsight you have to give DeWitt/Cordish some credit for at least a decent vision of BPV at this point.

^^Perhaps not across an intersection like BPV, but the new Centene HQ is very well served by light rail.
^ Yep, I live in Clayton…extremely transit friendly.
Have to agree with dredge on this one. If what Neidorff says is true and Cordish balked at the amount of parking Centene wanted to build then I’d say we dodged an enormous bullet considering the garages they’ve put up in Clayton. BPV will be a much better finished product without them. Really, really hope they take a big swing at Brown Shoe, however unlikely that may be.

Some good news from Jeff City today...
CNN: Missouri Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Medicaid
That's one less hill to climb.

The older Centene building at 7711 Carondelet is being de-skinned. I assume they are going to put up a curtain wall that matches the newer buildings. There is also some kind of treatment being done to the adjacent parking garage.
Honestly, I'm kind of ambivalent about this one. Centene's newer buildings are pretty basic boxes, but I don't dislike the glazing on them.
I'm more curious about Neidorff's thoughts about the steadily falling crime rates considering that was his supposed original impetus for delaying any further expansion. I'd just like to see the auditorium get done, tbh. Let someone else tackle the hole.

I'm sure the aesthetic alignment is important, but this probably also provides more efficient hvac and lower maintenance costs. There was a crane parked out there for weeks this year hoisting stuff to the roof. I'd guess this is done along with new equipment to make the whole building more efficient.

Total speculation on my part here, but the fact that Centene is investing any amount of additional money into their campus here isn't a bad sign. No, it's not the auditorium or a part of the now paused future towers, but I can't imagine they'd spend another dime on their Clayton office if they were going to fully leave town in the near future.

Does Centene own this building outright? One tends to "freshen up" a house right before putting it on the marketLaife Fulk wrote: ↑Sep 08, 2021Total speculation on my part here, but the fact that Centene is investing any amount of additional money into their campus here isn't a bad sign. There was never a threat of Centene turning off the lights and leaving. They’ll never do that. But they basically will have 3 zonal HQs (Sacramento, STL and Charlotte) that means we get everything split 3 ways now from investment to charity donors compared to just Centene being HQed here
