Does anyone knows of any new businesses coming to the Downtown area?
* Restaurants
* Cafe’s
* Bars
* Retail
* Etc…
I know the pandemic closed a lot of businesses but are any of them coming back? Like Mango?
Or is any of the new ones coming replacing those vacant ones?
Thanks in advance.

You know there's a search function, right? And that the forum is divided by metro area, and then further, by categories within each area? You keep asking general questions.

About Downtown, I don’t ask about other STL areas as they’re not of my interest! I don’t want to read a post that was last updated two-three years ago.
We need to create new content and maybe the forum needs to delete the old info or create some type of archive files.
People nowadays don’t want to search. I bet people read what’s shown in their main feeds.
I have searched and most data is outdated or old.
So why not create new threads? Does it bother you or hurt you in any way? Not! So be happy!!

If it hasn't been updated in 2-3 years, that's a solid sign there's nothing new to report.
Also, why on earth would you archive a forum? It's already listed in chronological order, just go to the end of a thread if you don't want to read from the beginning.
New threads can get annoying when the same subject gets spread over more than one thread. So please try to find a thread on a topic and if it already exists, keep using it. Example at one point there were three threads on N-S Metrolink. Some find the history interesting, the context illuminating, etc. I get that the one "restaurants" thread might be too broad for a single thread. The "state of downtown" thread has had discussion of downtown retail, restaurants, bars, etc, but I also realize there's also discussion of infrastructure, public safety, etc too which gets to be too much.
For this there's the "Retail Rally: What's Next For Downtown St. Louis?" thread which I'm going to merge this into.
Sorry for remaining off topic, perhaps we could move this to the Forum Rules thread. Posting my observations, I'm not a moderator.
As for the topic of archiving old threads, fortunately we don't really do that like sites such as Skyscraper page. As you've seen we're also not nearly as strict as other forums. For instance, Skyscraper page here in Philly won't even create a thread for a building unless it's 12 stories, I think. Which is silly. Some pretty major projects are relegated to one general low rise thread even though they deserve regular updates, it can get extremely confusing to track discussion. They won't even create threads for policy discussion, photography, tenant changes, etc. Likely because of this, it has about half the daily users as Urban STL and about fourth of the interesting content.
On Urban STL, it can be really nice to go back to a building that was completed 5 or 10 years ago to add updates to tenant and renovation announcements. The history of the building is readily available and that convenience regularly adds to the conversation.
As for asking about updates, if there was relevant news, 98% of the time it would have been posted. Fortunately, this is a pretty nerdy group of people, if a prominent building so much as has new realty signs on it, it will get posted here. If you are excited about a building, go there, take a couple photos, make observations about the building's preservation or decay, and post them here.
Around "my" part of Downtown:
- Mango closed, doesn't seem it's coming back which is a shame, loved that place
- Thai restaurant on N7th closed down, apparently replaced by a different Thai restaurant with a different name, haven't tried it yet
- Food court on Met Plaza closed down. That space seems to have been completely gutted, so unlikely to be coming back
- Starbucks by Met Plaza, Park Avenue Coffee is opening a new location on the same place, so that's a net positive for me
There's also a new coffeeshop by Gendry's Landing (Cafe de Blaire).
Yes, it's a shame, because that food court had by far the best fast food options in that part of Downtown (especially the Korean and the Ramen stalls).

Geez, already?
This isn’t new, it was part of the 1000 federal employees moving to the building, they’re taking the space and other floors. They’re taking 163,000 SF and signed a 20 year $72,000,000 lease
I worked at One Met for one day when 200 employees of my company relocated to the We Work there. Then we were sent to work from home. That was a really nice food court. Several different cuisine options. A couple spots ran out of food, and I was actually really excited to help these places with business. Covid really did a number on some awesome momentum in this city.

….again, the closure was announced before covid to accommodate 1000 USDA jobs

Was that announced in February of last year already? I thought that was later.

I think publicly in May or June but it was in the works for a while
^ Oh, ok. We moved in and out early March, with plans to be there through at least August. I don't think we were aware they we were planning on closing it down at that time.
Charlie Gitto's had a pipe burst while the building was closed during COVID winter. Apparently the damage was pretty bad. According to one of their old managers it will be coming back eventually but the organization is currently focused on getting their new county spot up and running atm.

I have read articles about the federal employees, but do you have a reference to closing the food court to accommodate them? I can't find anything. It's strange that there isn't enough room in the building to accommodate them without closing an otherwise disconnected first-floor food court that's obviously built out for food service.
Regardless of whether it was COVID-induced or not, RIP that food court. As I said, it was one of the best options for lunch in that part of Downtown and seemed to always be fairly busy (we actually started avoiding it on certain days of the week due to long lines). Wish it could be replicated somewhere nearby.
I'm sure the USDA knows what they're doing, but that area looks a bit strange for office space, it's super exposed to the street due to the massive windows. It's a shame that they had to cannibalize the food court with so much empty office space downtown.

It was in one do the early biz journal articles. Only thing I can think of is since it is USDA that they needed kitchen/lab space
