There certainly are good building sites immediately to their north, south, and east.

Well bully for Abstrakt. Even with their new office space it's hard to think they have room for an additional 400 employees. I hope they just keep filling up the upper floors of the Landing.
From the article:

"Abstrakt hasn't made a final decision on what offices the combined company will retain, a spokeswoman said."

If only there were some sort of, oh I don't know, maybe a surface parking lot on the landing on which the current owners could propose a mixed-use building - maybe someone who was  considering a tower with a garage at the base topped by hotel space and residential could incorporate some office space too.  Hmm, who could do something like that?

Why at all does the EADS even take automobile traffic ?? Why , in light of having 3 or more solely auto bridges already...the Eads Bridge is national treasure and landmark. I never think of the Eads to cross the river if need be. It is foolish to have a 2 lane top tier dedicated 2 way for heavy cars?..the Metrolink Train is heavy enough and iof great use for the public good. Get rid of the car lanes and assign the top view lanes for pedestrians. Maybe another or better gambling establishment will pop up. Or maybe just some Jersey City -style development on the east side...hell knows the awful desert could use some watering.

^ You could take it one step farther when making EADS a non auto corridor in the fact that you literally have another auto crossing 3-4 blocks north/northside in MLK Bridge - So grander plan of removing raised section of freeway, institute blvd between Wash U & Cass Ave and incorporate changes in EADS at same time.   MLK bridge should fall into the new northside grid for those cars going from downtown/MO side to IL if you reinstate a blvd to replace the raised freeway.   From their you embrace a new vision for East St Louis between MLK bridge and EADs

Outside of a major overhaul I would at least embrace a road diet for EADS bridge and seriously consider removing MLK bridge altogether.   As Damon noted above you literally have what 4 major freeway crossings on the river outside of the two downtown bridges, or 6 auto centric crossings if I got it right.  They should have seriously considered taking auto traffic off one of the downtown bridges when the most recent freeway crossing was added, Stan's bridge.

Another one way to put it.   The landing/near northside would an ideal candidate for urban redevelopment by embracing a removal of a freeway if funding gets passed via an infrastructure bill.

They're not going to shut down any bridges, especially with the Poplar being perpetually under construction.  I've used both the Eads and the King bridge dozens of times lately since the Poplar yet again has a bunch of lane restrictions and ramp closures in the Metro East that will last most the rest of the year.  Major delays going into Illinois pretty much around the clock right now.

The Eads just needs to be two lanes.  More than enough room for left over for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Greeley, Hoffman, and Traders Lofts go before LCRA Board today. Greeley and Hoffman have building permit applications submitted. Sounds like they're getting close to starting construction.

Abstrakt really needs their own buildings, they are pretty much the worst neighbors imaginable. Try getting anything accomplished when the people upstairs are blowing vuvuzelas, office chair jousting and chanting several times a day.

GRG is buying the garage at the Landing for $1m and it will demolish it for a park

I hear the complaints about more green space next to the national park, but just not sure what we’re supposed to do with a lot that gets flooded with some regularity.

That where I land on this topic. Would I love a building? Sure.  But I think it's fine to be park if the thing is gonna be flooded 50 days a year

I'm with you.  I just wish they wouldn't have built on the lot where the Switzer Building once stood.  It would've made a nice spot for infill construction.

^ Yeah my only real complaint is the Ward Burg garden.  But even that doesn't really bother me that much.

^ & ^^ What is frustrating to me is the fact that a well established company with national presence based in the St Louis region is essentially land banking the prime Landing spot/corner at Eads Bridge & Wash Ave meet where a very doable tower is rendered.   They should be topping off if not already built.    I can understand a pause when their revenues took a pandemic hit but time for Drury to step up and or at least sell off like they did with Kingshighway property to a developer who tries to move forward with something

I'd rather see thoughtful 3-6 story infill on the other vacant lots throughout the Landing, TBH.  I doubt that tower is ever going to get built.

^ Maybe not a Drury Hotel tower, but I don’t see a reason why someone else couldn’t make something big happen there if Drury offloaded the land.  Especially if the Landing takes off…right by the new Arch Grounds and a train station…

That's the whole point though.  If we're talking about flood prone property, I'd rather it be a park than a sad vacant parcel that will never be developed into nothing more than another ***** pocket park.

I still don't know why they didn't just push it one lot east.  Maybe it wasn't available.  I'm not sure.  But if it wasn't, the owner doesn't get how relatively low value the land is if no one can build on it.

Like chanting middle schoolers would do before a soccer game. Gotta have good vibes in order to do marketing I guess?

Aren't most people in marketing actual middle schoolers these days?
