Oh hey, look. The McClownskys got us in the national news again:

NBC: St. Louis lawyer who waved rifle at protesters running for Senate in Missouri
The Hill: Mark McCloskey files to run for Senate in Missouri
So the entire Republican primary is a giant clown show. Which . . . shouldn't be a surprise, I suppose.

Mark McCloskey also made a cameo in the most recent one (5-23).

Sigh.

^The whole "a city the size of Brighton" thing is deeply annoying. In no reasonable sense is Brighton even remotely comparable. Bloody idiots repeating garbage they read somewhere.

PostMay 26, 2021#2207

(If you dropped the St. Louis metro area into he UK it would be the third largest metro area in the entire country after only London and Manchester. And it bloody shows! The place is a country of villages. York is a basically a village. I think there might be four real cities in the entire country. Maybe.)

I did this just because I can. Matched the zoom level, of course. Yes, I'm well aware of the density difference.

Fairly or unfairly, this just demonstrates that the Number One thing St. Louis is known for world-wide is crime. We really, really have to do something about it; this reputation is just killing us (no pun intended).

Not fair.  Brighton still has their top division football club.

The Great One moves to STL permanently, likes the closeness to his new job in ATL.

“Gretzky and his wife, Janet, moved to Missouri earlier this year to be closer to his mother-in-law, who turns 100 in August.
The move from California also allows them to be closer to their two grandchildren, who are in South Florida.

"We just felt like, after the passing of my dad, and my youngest going to college this year, maybe this is a good time to move. We've kind of become empty nesters," he said. "Atlanta is an hour from Florida and an hour from St. Louis. So I guess the stars were aligned. We get to spend a lot of time with our family, and I get to do what I love to do, which is talk about hockey."

Bloomberg Lists St. Louis As “Must-Visit Spot’ This Summer

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... r-u-s-city
Am I the only person who is annoyed with outdated pictures of downtown and the Arch?  The picture in this article is from like 5 or 6 years ago.  Even our own local businesses and news stations are guilty of using outdated pictures of downtown and the Arch.  I see commercials all the time from local companies and car dealerships that have videos of the Arch from 2015 or 2016 when it's in the middle of construction.  I don't know why it's so difficult to get some more current pictures or videos.  Just pure laziness and cheapness.

It's almost as annoying as when I see skyline images that are inverted, which I see all too often.  That bugs me so much.

I’ve also noticed this...but I’m not surprised.  Our local media is absolute trash.

In addition I’d imagine most of the national sites are just using easily searchable images online or through stock photo sites...so I don’t have much grief for them.

The local guys, though, there’s no excuse.  Messenger’s column in a recent PD used a picture of the Central Corridor from 2018. City Foundry hadn’t really even broke ground yet.

Interesting. They've actually had a house in Kirkwood area for more than ten years. I didn't know it wasn't still their primary until this article. The Gretzkys really love STL... which is all the more reason for STL sports fans to despise Mike Keenan, just slightly less than Stank Kroenke.

I really don't buy that. At least anecdotally what we're known for is the arch, Budweiser, and the river. I've heard the old TWA hub mentioned more often than crime overseas. Most people don't even know we're here. I think this is a case of lazy journalism. They had an assignment to write a story on the "defund the police movement." I expect the author did a bit of googling to learn about this place of which they knew nothing. They found a few news stories and we came up. They checked the Wiki entry, landed an interview with the newsworthy new mayor and left it at that. In terms of the police reform stuff the article actually isn't terrible. But the comparison to Brighton strikes me as deeply, maybe almost dangerously misleading. I posed the question to some of my UK friends. Haven't gotten a response yet. Would be worth running a survey, I suppose. We could honestly stand to do some real marketing and maybe some overseas tourist advertising.

The number of times local news stories on my feed pop up accompanied by a picture of Kansas City is deeply alarming. Since it's the feed, I'm not even sure if it's the local outlet, MSN, or someone else altogether. But I swear, it happens every day. With the same picture of KC's Union Station, or occasionally of the highway spanning convention center. (I think I've occasionally seen the arch on KC stories as well. It's all unsettling.)

Back in my European home country most people have never heard of St. Louis. When I try to explain where I live, the easiest/best known reference point is south of Chicago. Consistent with SP's experience, those who have heard of St. Louis will typically know of the Arch, TWA, and the Mississi

Those I have met who have heard of St. Louis usually know the Arch, former TWA hub, and Mark Twain/riverboats.

From rando website:
St. Louis Style Ribs

“St. Louis Ribs” or “St. Louis Spares” are the popular monikers for pork ribs, St. Louis Style, as they were officially named.  What does St. Louis style ribs mean? The name refers to the cut of rib, which originated in the region of St. Louis, Missouri, a leader in the meat-packing industry back in the early 20th century.

When I was in Reykjavik I saw an ad for a "St. Louis Bacon Burger" at one of the local chains.
