So I don't know what the "Victims of Communism" survey that went out to Aldermanic candidates was, but Cherri Elder--who owns an antique store on Cherokee with all sorts of anti BLM signage in her window proclaimed that since Dan Guenther and Cara Spencer didn't answer it they must be communists. What is this--Joe McCarthy's 1954?
The worst part is someone on the Ortmann campaign shared Elder's FB post basically calling them communists
As I've said before I've known and worked with both Ortmann and Guenther and thought that would be a tough decision to make if I lived in the 9th ward.
I no longer think it's a tough decision at all. And it saddens me to say it.

Sounds completely deranged.Baltimore Jack wrote: ↑Feb 26, 2021So I don't know what the "Victims of Communism" survey that went out to Aldermanic candidates was, but Cherri Elder--who owns an antique store on Cherokee with all sorts of anti BLM signage in her window proclaimed that since Dan Guenther and Cara Spencer didn't answer it they must be communists. ^I agree. And Elder attended the "Stop the Steal" demonstrations in DC. I highly doubt many in the 9th Ward want or need her approval on a candidate and that Ortmann's campaign is using her "survey" to bash other candidates is not a good sign.

If this was a normal primary, Schweitzer would have defeated Murphy in the 13th Ward. Seems she's on track for that come April.
That's the only "flip" tonight.

Shedrick Kelly came closer in the 7th Ward than I thought. He still has his work cut out for him but Coatar won't just skate to victory in April like some (including me) thought he would.
As for the 9th it's all over but the cryin. It's clear the voters in that ward are happy with Dan Guenther.

Does anyone know if Laura Keys running for the 21st has a website?
I guess not since it's not on her campaign graphic in her Youtube videos.

Anybody have any thoughts on Kelly vs. Coatar in ward 7? Coatar hasn't done a whole lot to endear himself to me as a downtown resident, but honestly I don't know enough about either of them to really go one way or the other.

If you want to meet Kelly, he will be at park pacific on Saturday talking to residents. ill check the sign on the elevator to see when exactly its happening.uiscebeatha wrote: ↑Mar 31, 2021Anybody have any thoughts on Kelly vs. Coatar in ward 7? Here are just some of the things Jack has accomplished for downtown and Ward 7.uiscebeatha wrote:Anybody have any thoughts on Kelly vs. Coatar in ward 7? I can tell you from my experience that he is always responsive to the needs of downtown, attends neighborhood meetings, and cares a lot about downtown. He’s also one of the few alderman that’s willing to weigh both sides of an argument at the BOA.

I appreciated in their candidate forum that Kelley has several children in SLPS. Did he say anything groundbreaking or surprising? Not so much. Jack seems like a 'safe bet' for Downtown. There's no doubt that Jack probably has great intentions, but he's also a full-time attorney. Many of my emails have gone unanswered. There are still jersey barriers littered across Downtown (what do tourists think when they see this kind of stuff?). Almost all of those 'notable projects' are market rate and/or subsidized, yeah? The Landing needed that shot in the arm though. Overall, there's nothing truly detracting from him, from say, anyone else currently on the board. It's business as usual in trying to improve the area, though arguably maybe not in the most equitable way.

Thanks TWG!
I do remember him telling me that in hindsight, they 'probably' should have gotten a guarantee on the 923 replacement before allowing demolition. Yes.. yes..
Since he ran for Alderman before, I thought I'd post this here.

How id vote in alder races
5th- Page over Hubbard
17th- Sherod over Pihl (although I could be just as fine if Pihl won, she’s a got more Ivy League degrees then entire board combined)
13th- schweitzer over murphy (Anne is going to steamroll Murphy, and she’s going to get things done)
9th- Dan over Ortmann. No reason to fix something that’s not broken
7th (my ward) jacks done a fine job, he’s not going to surprise you with anything outside the box or anything great or innovative but he’s a steady hand. Which is kinda the problem, he’s been at it for a while and we need something more then a steady hand- I don’t know if Kelley is that person either but he seems like a good guy and one thing I respect about elected officials above all is the ones who send their kids to SLPS, we need more of leading by example (I don’t think Jack has kids but if he did I’d imagine they wouldn’t go to SLPS). I already voted and ultimately went with a steady hand bc there is going to be a lot of changes if Jones is mayor and a new slate of alders and when that happens it’s good to have some institutional knowledge
