There are more local clothing retailers in downtown then CWE.wabash wrote: ↑Dec 31, 2020It's pretty crazy when you compare DT to CWE retail - just complete night and day. Whether it's fast casual (Bread Co., Shake Shack, Five Guys, Qdoba), Pharmacies (CVS, Walgreens, Medicine Shoppe), popular brick-and-mortar retailers (Lululemon, Bonobos, Suit Supply, Warby Parker), trendy workout studios (Orange Theory, Pure Barre, PLNK), book stores (Left Bank), grocery stores (Culinaria v. Schnucks, Whole Foods, Straub's and Fields Foods). CWE even has a Pharaoh's Donuts now!
Not to rip on DT, which still has a wide range of casual and more sit down dining options, but it seems CWE has really emerged as the go to for any national or local retailer (even one like Arch Apparel) looking for a brick and mortar presents in the City.

Do you have the specs for those bulbs/lamps?imran wrote: ↑Dec 30, 2020Happy to claim that I had a part to play in that choice.aprice wrote: ↑Dec 30, 2020As for the Grove lights being to bright: they're awful but I think I've ranted about them on here before. I noticed last winter that Euclid between Maryland and McPherson got brighter lamps but you couldn't tell, in a good way. It was definitely brighter but they used the same warm temp. Perfectly done.
We can have energy efficiency AND aesthetics.
Here’s a recent spec sheet. We’re working to swap out more lights in the neighborhood.walker wrote: ↑Jan 01, 2021Do you have the specs for those bulbs/lamps?imran wrote: ↑Dec 30, 2020Happy to claim that I had a part to play in that choice.aprice wrote: ↑Dec 30, 2020As for the Grove lights being to bright: they're awful but I think I've ranted about them on here before. 184 studio and one bedroom units renting for between 1295 and 1800. Planned start in the third quarter. King thinks he can do well as older downtown properties lack something for amenities and go for premium prices. They have a few other sites around town in mind, and they're looking to branch out to the sexy towns. It all seems pretty fluffy, but it's nice to hear someone sound bullish.
Also: I'm beginning to think a PD subscription unlocks some Biz J. content. Either that or I've hit the magic formula with browser extensions.

^ I don’t think the BJ puts every article behind its paywall. It does provide some articles that are available to those without subscriptions (usually the locked content has a key next to the headline).
Definitely has nothing to do with having a PD subscription. BJ is national. Wouldn’t be any overlap there.
One thing I’ve noticed, if you stop loading the webpage before it finishes you can sometimes fool the paywall. Won’t load images, but you can usually get the full text.

^I always did the quick stop, but I haven't had to lately. And I'd swear some of them were paywalled articles. I'll keep print screen in mind if it turns out I haven't found the magic plugins.

The little mens clothing store on Wash Ave in the Fashion Square building has closed. Shame as it was a nice little amenity.
Also the Alder Frames space looks like it’s been leased by something called “Equilibrium.” Some work being done inside now.

Only thing I could find that seemed remotely plausible. Have/had a location on Delmar.

Someone is posting these old videos on a Facebook group. Another downtown drive around in 1959
Those videos are really cool, but I agree with u_d that it really is depressing to see how vibrant Downtown was back in the day, compared to today's ghost town.

^I was going to say Olive is one of the better preserved strips in town, but it would literally take an act of congress; several acts of congress to get that kind of activity back.

Maybe Washington is a bit better, but I would walk on stretches of Olive/Broadway/Locust/4th every day pre-Covid and there was very little stuff going on.

It depends on when and where you're walking. On another note, what are the logistics for rebuilding some of our lost architecture? The building across Locust from Jefferson Arms comes to mind. I'd also be interested in seeing others like that at Washington and Tucker or the building on what is now the condemned garage at Tucker and Locust. Would people rather see modern buildings on those sites?

I'm not from this city, but my perspective is that I'd prefer modern over throwback infill.Elek.borrelli wrote:It depends on when and where you're walking. St. Louis has retained an extremely impressive collection of pre-WWII buildings.
I most certainly appreciate that history and architecture, but I'd rather the city start building modern structures so as to shake this city's obsession with its past and get it to finally start focusing on its future.
I love the idea of modern infill next to 19th century red brick structures. I love the contrast. I sincerely hope we see a lot more projects like 1801 Washington in downtown St. Louis, as well as other neighborhoods.

There is a guy in front of 1321 Washington holding a sign that says “Do not patronize Harolds - Miyabi - Whiskey on Washington, Labor Dispute”
So I guess that’s what is moving in
