So...
  • Vince Laskowski has filed to challenge Sarah Martin in Ward 11.
  • Alexander Gremp and Jennifer Florida have both filed to run in the 15th Ward, challenging Megan Green.
  • Michelle Sherod is the only candidate in Ward 17.
  • Mary Ann Jackson joins Chris Carter in challenging Pam Boyd in Ward 27.
  • Joe Vaccaro (Ward 23) and Shane Cohn (Ward 25) are the only incumbent Aldermen this cycle with no challenger.
Because Laskowski, Gremp, and Florida all filed today, signatures still have to be verified before getting on the ballot. Other candidates, who filed earlier, do not have a "Filing Number" yet, so I'm unsure if they're signatures have been verified.

Interesting. Must’ve changed in the past hour since I checked.

My bet is still on Sherod

Anne Schweitzer in the 13th, she won’t be out worked. She’s a pro at campaigning (full disclosure ive donated to her campaign,)

Green will easily beat Florida again

Page as a shot but it’s an uphill battle against a family machine.

In the 17th, the 3 that filed today i don’t see as serious candidates. Sherod should win that.

I think he has a chance. I would vote for anyone other than the Hubbard family. It’s so ridiculous how Tammika Hubbard called her constituents “devil”

I thought the Hubbard's had been overthrown a few years ago. I take it they're back?

Anyone know anything about the Ward 7 challenger? Looks like Shedrick Kelley? I couldn't find anything online.

He’ll lose by 50points. A lot of people jump into these things without really knowing what is needed, If you’re going to upset an incumbent alder you better have $50,000 raised, especially in this new voting system where you have to beat someone twice now if it’s a head to head.

The Hubbard machine doesn't do as well in one on one matchups, as we saw with Bruce Franks beating Penny, and Rasheen Aldridge beating Rodney Sr. Part of the problem in the 5th Ward races that Tammika has won were too many challengers to split the non-Hubbard vote. She did not win the 2017 primary with a majority, and barely in the 2017 general election against a last-minute independent challenge. If James Page gets out and does the hard work I think he can win. I know a lot of people that will be voting for him.

Doesn't seem like he has a campaign website.  Would have been nice to have a viable challenger.

Edit: Finally found it.  https://www.shedrickkelley.com/    ... yes, I know, Sherlock Holmes over here.

I'm upset that there are no apparent forum users running for Aldermen.

Some of you on here have good ideas that I think would help our city.

DB, I'm looking at you specifically. Your Twitter handle even makes it seem as though you planned on running for something. Maybe next time around for you and other forum members.

In "Final Official List of Candidates" news...
  • Ward 1 picked up another candidate. Loren Watt.
  • Vince Laskowski struck from the ballot in Ward 11. I guess the signature verification failed.
Beyond that though, the March Primary is settled.

I don't have the list, but it was tight:
https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/gov ... the-latest
The board, on a narrow 15-13 vote, passed a bill that would ask voters to decide whether to stick with the decision made in a 2012 election to cut the number of wards and aldermen to 14 from 28. Aldermen are supposed to  redraw the boundary lines later this year.

But the measure could face a veto from Mayor Lyda Krewson. Krewson, a strong supporter of ward reduction over the years, threatened to veto a similar revote measure in 2018.

Krewson's spokesman, Jacob Long, did not have an immediate comment on what she would do with this year's bill.
I assume Krewson will veto...at least I hope to god she does.

I thought she had said she would in the past but I am not 100% on that.
