Mobar closed 5 years ago because the owner died. It reopened after the 2 sons decided to remodel and take over. It’s a legendary bar. It wasn’t unusual to have conversations with MLB umpires who went there often after games or with Post Dispatch reporters after work. Gyro was terrific and the owners were always good to the neighborhood. Had the grit of old downtown and served food till 2am. Will be missed.framer wrote:Possibly. I haven't been there since a fundraiser a few years ago. I know it's lost a bit of it's "shine", if you will, but still, it's one of those legandary haunts that every downtown needs.

It’s still open but evidently very forgivable. I walk by it multiple times a day. It’s got to be the tinted windows, you can’t really tell if it’s open or closed.kipfilet wrote: ↑Dec 02, 2020What about Jack Patrick's? Has it also closed?

Still open and still serve the best cheddar burger in town.kipfilet wrote:What about Jack Patrick's? Has it also closed?
RIP MoBar. May I never lose the fuzzy memories of all the weird and inappropriate things I witnessed and participated in there. (If anyone knows where the Ozzie portrait ended up, I'll pay good money for it.)
Nice looking shot of Kiener during the holidays. Really wish they could get some lights projected on those garages all year long:

^ Hell, turn it into an outdoor movie screening some nights. Great shot...I'll have to swing by one of these nights to see it in person.
Great idea to activate the space.EssTeeEll wrote: ↑Dec 11, 2020^ Hell, turn it into an outdoor movie screening some nights. Great shot...I'll have to swing by one of these nights to see it in person.
"activate the space"
Well, admittedly a lot better than the decrepit trailer hauled in and locked into place with wood blocks and an extension cord running to the A/C unit, with a security guard sleeping inside.

^ It was quite the firefight. I was really taken aback to see some of the shooters carrying around long rifles immediately after the firefight took place. Really unfortunate that other properties (like Bella's froyo) were damaged in the crossfire.
According to someone on Nextdoor (take that with a grain of salt), Dana Kelly has stopped paying rent and Reign may not be long for the location. I hate to say it, but I would not be at all upset to see them leave. The consensus among my building seems to be that Reign is quite unpopular among almost everyone on the 1100 block of Washington and the unit-owning residents of the block are doing whatever they can to get it closed.

They trojan horsed themselves into the neighborhood by saying that they would be an upscale restaurant. That is clearly not the case
^I believe that reason explains a lot of the animosity from the residents of this block of Washington. I think it would be fair to say that we feel deceived. Hoodwinked. Bamboozled. I seem to recall Dana Kelly initially presenting Reign as more of an posh dining experience with a lounge element that many thought would be akin to Lucas Park Grille. While they do provide a meal service, I don't think anyone can argue that the primary revenue generator is clearly meant to be the post-dinner clubbing.
Washington Ave needs some sort of night life, but certainly not this type.

Pull their liquor license and close it now. The residents that invested in the area and DT don't deserve this nonsense.

I agree and the following places where people have been murdered should also lose their LL and close- Ballpark Village (1 murdered inside and another shooting outside) Europe Night Club (murder outside after a fight inside), Pepper Lounge- multiple outside shootings after inside fights, Wheelhouse - well they're closed because they cant follow covid rules, so nevermind.robertn42 wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2020Pull their liquor license and close it now. I understand your point and it highlights a much bigger challenge we have with guns in general. That said, I don't understand the defense of a problem property when you are also invested in the area.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2020I agree and the following places where people have been murdered should also lose their LL and close- Ballpark Village (1 murdered inside and another shooting outside) Europe Night Club (murder outside after a fight inside), Pepper Lounge- multiple outside shootings after inside fights, Wheelhouse - well they're closed because they cant follow covid rules, so nevermind.robertn42 wrote: ↑Dec 14, 2020Pull their liquor license and close it now. Defense? I said I agree, they should lose their license and be shut down. Then I listed places which have had worst offenses like murder.
Reign has been ordered closed by the health department until 12/15/2021 for Covid violations. Not surprising since the overwhelming majority of people I saw entering were not wearing masks. I am sure that they will be appealing the order like earlier this year.

Well...it’s more parking and some of it was done with pavers? Guessing a water run off requirement?dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Nov 26, 2020Anyone know what’s going on here? It’s under 64 in the back of union station, the old movie theater that was there just got demolished over the summer
A very fat T shaped outline has been poured
I guess if you're gonna have surface parking, shoving it under an interstate is the lesser of evils. Although, demoing something for it blows (admittedly, I have no idea what the condition of the theatre was).
^ Considering the current state of movie going, I see no issue demolishing an abandoned theater wedged under a highway most people didn’t know was there.
I don’t know when it was built (80s?)...but it certainly wasn’t a historic building. Though I do agree any new surface parking sucks. On the other hand...I’d be fine with some here if it meant the lots closer to the Union Station shed could see some new action.
