Kind of sad that it will be nearly 3 more years away.  When St. Louis failed the previous round, MLS jumped to Nashville.  Nashville SC started play in March of this year, but then the season ended quickly when the Covid-19 crisis began.  Even though Nashville promised a new MLS stadium by now, they had to start this season in Nissan Stadium where the NFL Titans football team plays.

The new Nashville MLS stadium is barely as far along as our stadium.  (And the design looks similar to our design.) They cleared off the site, but have not started actual construction.  Homes in the area got notices about upcoming blasting.  Nashville says that their stadium will be the largest in the MLS at 30,000 seats. I believe there are still some legal hurdles for it to clear.  So Nashville will likely be playing in the Titan's stadium for a few years.

^ Interesting - did not know that about Nashville.  Obviously the Dome is vacated enough where our team could have played in the meantime.  But maybe the fact it's a dome and might not meet other "standards" had something to do with it?  I'm going to assume Nissan Stadium has more amenities/is more up to date.  Either way, would have been nice to go to go some games sooner, not to mention the local businesses on game days.

I was kind of surprised the PD article mentioned sponsors.  It may be common to still not have all of those squared away when dealing with an expansion team, but I was thinking all of that was a done deal.

I assume the stadium will be named National Car Rental Stadium or Alamo Car Rental Field or similar.  I assume they would avoid calling it Nation Car Rental Park, since Park would make it sound like a place to return your rental car.

I’m pretty sure MLS told them they don’t want enterprise to be the stadium or jersey sponsor. They wanted buy in from other companies. So I don’t think it will be named either of those.

I'm sure MLS wants the deepest bench of sponsors possible. But at the end of the day those rights will go to the highest bidder. There's an MLS team in New York owned by Red Bull that is named the Red Bulls, the stadium is named Red Bull Arena, the jersey sponsor is Red Bull, etc, etc....

A lot of progress has been made in the last 10 days or so. Foundations are poured, wall going up...

Team name, crest and colors to be made public August 13th, virtually.

Nice!  I wonder if their dominate color will be yellow so each of our pro teams represent a color on the STL flag.  Kind of surprised by the announcement, though.  I believe they said they wanted to wait to do it in person and have a big event, but I guess they changed their mind since we don't really have an end in sight.

Zero of their marketing to date has included green.  I'd bet $100 that the colors will be in line with what they've been using to date: the city flag colors of red, blue, and yellow.

Agree with this. I think it makes the most sense also.

Think the colors here offer any clues?

I don't know if I'm adequately prepared for the amount of whining and complaining that will inevitably occur immediately following the announcement of club name.

Just read through the entire COVID thread - from the very first post to the end - and you'll want to remove your eyes with a spoon by page 5 AND get plenty exposure to insane takes / bickering.

Off topic but I had to stay away from this place for a couple of weeks when COVID was getting going in the US. Every thread was full of bickering and how all construction is done. Thankfully now I can just avoid that thread and the Rename STL one.

In the 101ESPN interview CBK mentioned it came down to two names and the final decision was unanimous. Gateway City was dropped as what people are assuming was the non-winner, maybe not? But I must say Gateway City is a really solid name, let's hope the competitor is equally good.

If St. Louis isn't in the name, I personally will be disappointed. Whatever else is attached to that I don't really care as much although I would prefer no United and SC over FC if that is the route they are going.

Sacramento is going to keep the existing Republic FC name and branding, right?

Correct. Their USL team is just moving up to MLS and I think they will no longer have USL.

Excellent.  That branding is on point.

I see a bow. I’m still all in on St. Louis Archers.
