^ Yep, exactly. I would like to pose the following question to those alderpersons worried about representation...what has it gotten you now? Has it been working all these years so far? I’d say not...like you said...just little meaningless politicians trying to protect their (esp. in the City) shrinking piece of pie.
Sorry, but could someone clarify this a bit?quincunx wrote: ↑Jul 17, 2020Fun fact, if an equal number of voters vote yes to stop ward reduction as who voted against ward reduction in 2012 (not likely given 2012 was a presidential election), then the votes against stopping ward reduction would have to be 46,783 fewer than the yes vote for ward reduction in 2012 in order to pass the proposed ward reduction undo. What a waste of time.

If ward reduction is reversed, and the exact same number of people vote, then a TON of people who have to flip sides.
Speaking of the BoA...
They passed a bill to have the Workhouse closed by the end of the year. Reed's airport privatization measure was tabled and unless there is a special session, is dead for now.

Do they put the votes of the aldermen on bills on the website anymore?

The Mayor was one of the original sponsors of the 2012 ward reduction bill, if this comes to her desk I don’t see why she won’t veto it.
In 2012 the vote was Yes- 80301, 61.5% | No- 50277, 38.5%framer wrote: ↑Jul 18, 2020Sorry, but could someone clarify this a bit?
If the vote to undo ward reduction garnered an equal number of affirmative votes as the 2012 vote got against, then the no vote on the undo would have to get 46,783 fewer votes the 2012 vote got yes votes in order to pass.
Hypothetical Apr 2021 vote to undo Yes- 50277 60%, No- 33518, 40%
An interesting wrinkle is if we pass the non-partisan voting charter amendment in Nov, and there's a runoff for mayor in April.
If the mayor vetoes it, or she signs it so it goes on the ballot, it'll be a topic in the mayor's race, especially if it becomes competitive in April due to a runoff.
Let's hope the mayor does the right thing and vetoes this again. Can hardly wait for half the losers on the board to be out.
So, you're saying that a huge number of voters would have to change their minds and vote opposite of how they did in 2012 for this new thing to pass. . . and that such an outcome in highly unlikely . . . right?quincunx wrote: ↑Jul 18, 2020In 2012 the vote was Yes- 80301, 61.5% | No- 50277, 38.5%framer wrote: ↑Jul 18, 2020Sorry, but could someone clarify this a bit?

Yes, and/or not show up.
Another note- in 2012 the vote against reduction didn't hit 60% in any ward.

Joe Roddy retiring is a big loss on the board, but hard to see him running for one of the larger seats after consolidation so it was probably inevitable. He had his critics but I am sure everyone can agree he was dedicated to Forest Park Southeast in a way few others were willing to be.
On 1st day of filing. Four people running in the 21st. Two in the 5th.
Filing closes in three weeks, Jan 4
No one has filed yet for Wards 1,
There are challengers in Wards 3, 5, 7, 12, 13, 19, 21 (4), 27 (a Boyd v a Carter
)
Do any of the challengers have a chance?
No incumbent in 17, only one candidate filed

Ward 4 has two challengers
Former ald Ken Ortmann is seeking his old seat in Ward 9
Still only one candidate in Ward 17

I don't follow the ward races. Who is running for Ward 17? Is Roddy moving on to something different?

Anyone think the rematch between Guenther and Ortmann in Ward 9 will turn out differently than it did last time?
Disclaimer--I do not live in that ward, but I know, work with, and admire both candidates.

I don’t think it will be anywhere as close as last time (when Dan won 65-35%)Baltimore Jack wrote: ↑Dec 31, 2020Anyone think the rematch between Guenther and Ortmann in Ward 9 will turn out differently than it did last time?

I tend to agree, and I'm not sure why Ken is going for a rematch.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Dec 31, 2020I don’t think it will be anywhere as close as last time (when Dan won 65-35%)Baltimore Jack wrote: ↑Dec 31, 2020Anyone think the rematch between Guenther and Ortmann in Ward 9 will turn out differently than it did last time?
