This is the street lighting solution we've all been waiting for I suppose.

They'll adjust brightness sooner or later. I highly doubt that they thought about just how bright and far this thing would be at night, but I know for a fact the other screens have dimming controls that they adjust depending on time of day, amount of sunlight, etc.
Extrapolating from the 4 Seasons, I predict that half of the panels will be dead in 3 or 4 years.

Wow I really hope they put the Eye of Sauron up there from time to time. Would be hilarious.
TV aside it really is a great looking structure. I'm looking forward to seeing it on telecasts.

I sure hope 2 Cardinal Way has a lighter appearance. One is too dark to me. From the glass to the charcoal colored parking garage area, it seems like a hulking dark mass.
I don't like it but I also don't hate it.

Really adds something to the south side of DT. Time to demo Stouffers/Clarion/Millenium building. It's not a redevelopment candidate (floor plates don't translate). That large piece of land with 2-3 signature type buildings would completely change the "skyline shot" of STL. Double bonus points if the development would hide the east side of the stadium garage building.sc4mayor wrote: ↑Jul 09, 2020TV aside it really is a great looking structure. Maybe, but if you're referring to the scaffolding on the south face of the crown, it's been sitting there for three weeks now.Elek.borrelli wrote: ↑Jul 09, 2020^ Looks like they're adding the "ONE" sign
They been using the scaffolding for the installation of the last pieces of missing glass panels up on the crown the last few days, but will also keep it up to help with the sign installation within the coming week and a half.
The quoted life span is about 10-15 years. 5-7 years of being able to display actual “HD content” and then recommended you switch to just plan colors (I call it mood lights). The displays start loosing their brightness after about 3-4 years. The last time we looked at these we where told the technology is improving quickly though.kipfilet wrote:Extrapolating from the 4 Seasons, I predict that half of the panels will be dead in 3 or 4 years.

The infield area is pretty busy on most nights even with covid. They have few dozen tables spread out.
All of those walkways, plazas, terraces, seating areas look pretty habitable.
I'm pretty sure the pwc building and Live! by Loews hotel are open.
Strange to see absolutely no one in such a large area on a weekday.
^ Considering what’s going on right now, how full is that office building or hotel? I bet both are still pretty empty. My office reopened back on June 15th and I’d say maybe 20% of the people have come back. Everyone else is still working from home.

Sports and Social was pretty busy for a hot and muggy Saturday afternoon today

Ok I officially hate this stupid screen. Visited the Compton Hill reservoir last night to (unsuccessfully) see the comet. Great views all around except the screen COMPLETELY overwhelmed the downtown skyline. It’s ridiculously bright, so much so that it illuminated the walls of the reservoir all the way from downtown in whatever color the screen was.

I would recommend calling BPV and politely letting them know that it's just too bright at night. And let your local Alderman or Alderwoman know as well.
^ I wonder what its fate will ultimately be. You'd think simply turning down the brightness could be done in a matter of minutes or less. Has it done anything other than cycle through different colors within the past week? Honestly, if it's between that and streaming video, the solid color changes might be the best option.
Something else I think about...no way it would be as obvious from inside Busch with all the stadium lights on, but what are the chances players complain about it being a distraction at the plate? Or going back on a fly ball/popup? If it's truly that bright, it could be enough they'd be annoyed by it. Then again, it might not even be on during games, so who knows?

It can be dimmed extremely quickly, and without much effort. The main FSMW Live and outdoor screen are both controlled from the DJ booth - and brightness is something that takes literally seconds to adjust. Even if this screen was controlled by a different computer in the apartment offices, it's still very simple to do. Cordish / BPV just need to receive feedback that it's too bright at night.EssTeeEll wrote: ↑Jul 13, 2020^ I wonder what its fate will ultimately be.
