Went down to this today and took a short walk around. Honestly, it came out pretty good. Only think I don't like is the large trophy. Seems like a gimmick. The One Cardinal Way TV screen is another thing. That's happening just when looking at the crown. A few things I noticed, some banners were taken off of the OneLife Building that once talked about the Cardinal's Walk of Fame.

Great pics, thanks! So is Cardinal Way now being treated like an actual street, as opposed to just a thoroughfare within a parking lot? To clarify, can you drive on Cardinal Way now without going through a boom barrier first? I noticed boom barriers right at the entrance to the parking lot just north of the WS trophy roundabout. Also, I don't know why, but I feel like it's only a matter of time before the WS trophy sculpture gets hit by some drunk moron speeding down the road.

Cardinal Way is simply a access way to parking lots. You get a ticket before going in and pay when leaving,

The Pennant Building needs to be re-skinned as soon as possible.

Interesting. Might be outdated at this point, but the partnership site selector website indicates the office building would be 29 stories.

^ I'm not sure what to make of this.  They have the address as 1 Cardinal Way...which is a 29 story building.  But then they've got the empty blocks highlighted.  They also mention it being the first office building in downtown St. Louis in 30 years...which wouldn't be true if this were a future project...that would be the Pennant Building.

Most importantly it says next to available square feet, 29,859.  Anyone know how much space is still available at the Pennant Building?

Can those trees actually survive in those tiny wells?

The root system will survive. Underneath it all of those pavers are suspended and it’s like one large tree pit. It didn’t look like a Silva cell system but I’m confident the root system will survive. I’m more worried about how they will accommodate the trunk width over time.

OK, so to be clear - you can drive down Cardinal Way without getting a ticket for the parking lot? Like, could I pull onto Cardinal Way from 8th street, circle the roundabout between the PWC and OneLife buildings, and then exit right back out onto 8th street without ever having to go through a liftgate or needing to get a ticket? And once OCW is done, drive all the way down Cardinal Way from 8th to Broadway without needing to get a parking lot ticket?

No - the gates are before you get to the roundabout.  The streets you see are nothing more than driveways to access the parking lots.  Once you pull in, you'd have to go through the gate before you could turn around.

Got it... so you have to go through two sets of gates? Because it looks like there is another set after you are on Cardinal Way that you have to go through to actually get into the parking area. This picture is actually why I asked the question in the first place...

EDIT: Just figured it out - the gates immediately north of the roundabout aren't to the parking areas, but rather the exit/entrance to Walnut Street. Now it makes sense.

My uneducated guess would be that the gates will be there as long as those large surface lots are there.  It will take some time, but I would imagine once all the lots are filled in they will open up Cardinal Way and the two access points (7th and 6th?) from Walnut like a traditional street grid and whatever garages/buildings are built in place of those lots will have their access controlled individually instead.

You can see the led panels have been installed on the video section by viewing the webcam.

Yeah, unfortunately. It's gonna look like sh*t. I'd be fine with it if the entire crown was a giant wraparound LED like the things you see in Times Square, but this just looks like somebody put a big flat screen television on the top of the building with duct tape.

It looks a hell of a lot better than the parking lot it replaced. And you're really gonna pass judgment on a rendering? C'mon.

so since it's no longer a parking lot nobody can have an opinion about the design.

BellaVilla wrote:And you're really gonna pass judgment on a rendering?
that's kind-of the whole point of renderings. also, it's not difficult to imagine a random, disproportionately small TV screen on top of a 30-story building looking stupid and trashy and immediately outdated.

From a little bit ago. You can see how the screen will be.
