Key words to look for in STL are “community spread.” Considering we have instances of that already in Chicago and Tennessee it won’t be long before we find our very own little cluster.

Once we find one all bets are off and events will begin dropping like flies. I wonder if STL squeezes the St. Pats festivities in before this happens? Hope not.

Another sign that the air travel industry is in for a world of hurt due to this:

Korean Air Warns That Coronavirus Could Put It Out of Business
Korean Air fears collapse due to coronavirus

Though in some better news, it seems the Israeli team that shifted into working on a vaccine for this is still looking at potentially only 3-5 months to get a coronavirus vaccine commercially available, as they're apparently still just a few weeks away from finalizing it and are looking at getting a fast-tracked 90-day in-vivo trial.

Israeli scientists: 'In a few weeks, we will have coronavirus vaccine'

USA has reported a 73% increase in positive cases in the last 36 hours.

St.Patrics Day parades cancelled in Chicago, Boston, Pittsburgh.
Here we are apparently still having ours as local colleges close.  it is extremely irresponsible to still have the downtown parade tomorrow and the dogtown parade Tuesday

If they don't have the parade they will just gather in bars in more cramped quarters.
As far as the universities same thing.  The kids are still gonna hang out together in bars, restaurants, coffee shops,
each others apartments.
I guess what we need to do is just shut the country down for two weeks.  Everyone go home shelter in place
and the only people allowed on the streets are first responders and medical personnel.

Some will do that but that’s easier to trace and manage. If 10% at a parade of 50,000 get infected that’s 5,000 people to trace and figure out movement. If 10% at a bar of 50 get infected it becomes much easier to trace and track down the other 45

Fortunately the downtown parade is on Market street which keeps people inherently more spread out. Dogtown is where we could see some serious issues. For those who haven’t been before it gets CROWDED. In places it can be so crowded along the route that movement in any direction is difficult.

Weather for Tuesday so far is 57° with rain. Might keep some people away

WashU just announced their response:

Spring Break is extended for an extra week
ALL classes will be online through April 30th
Students are not to return to campus after Spring Break - even to get their stuff
Students who remained on campus must move back home by March 15th

The email was a little ambiguous as to whether the Danforth campus itself will be closed.

So if an international student lives on campus they making them go home even if they are from say Italy or China?
I say the easiest thing at this point, shut the whole damn country down for 14 days and be done with it already.

It sounds like they wanted to just get the big new out there ASAP so students could make arrangements now.  I'm expecting more info to be released later this week. (And I still need to pick up a course packet at the bookstore for a Mini B class - so not sure if that's even possible at this point)

Rolla has called of its parade (which is a huge deal there)

Golden State Warriors will play tomorrow night in an emtpy arena.

It looks like the state and local governments aren't waiting for direction from the tool in the white house and are making the right calls on their own.

Agree that it is extremely irresponsible to go ahead with the parade. My wife and I had signed up for the race as we do every year, and are skipping it this time.

They should just reschedule the parade for 6 months from now to recoup the lost revenue for the neighborhood. Call it Half-Patty's day. Might actually have a better turn out.

NBC NEWS: The attending physician of the U.S. Congress & Supreme Court, Dr. Brian Monahan, briefed Senate Staff yesterday in a closed-door meeting that he expects anywhere from 70 up to 150 million people in the U.S. to contract coronavirus, per two sources

1% of 100,000,000 is 1,000,000 dead.

By this time next week sh*t will have officially hit the fan in the US with this- why?  By end of this week there will be about 2,000,000 tests available (vs 70,000 last week) as people get tested the numbers will explode.  The biggest tennis tournament outside of the 4 grand slams was canceled yesterday- it was suppose to start today in California.   I can see blues and Battlehawks games being played with no fans present.  MLB season pushed off a month and shortened.   This will also be brutal for construction progress being made in STL.   China has been able to reverse this in a month but it’s also china- everyone stays home or you’re shot.   This is why we need robust funding for public infrastructure (like CDC). The just half-ass it until it’s too late policies of the right screw us every. single. time.
Hopefully you won’t have to sell that AR-15 to make your house payment tho.
I was wrong- sh*t is hitting the fan this week.

What I put are my thoughts and opinions on this. I don’t think it will get as bed as people are predicting. Is it bad for me to say this? Am I a stupid ***** for saying that? Is it wrong to say that? Absolutely not.

If we lose focus of the economy, when this blows over, we will be having a rough time. But whatever. Might as well force everyone into quarantine to make it seem like we are doing something right.

Honestly, all of you are paranoid clearly. I’m personally blowing this off. I won’t he concerned until there are millions of cases worldwide band at home in the US. I made my case before and my case stands as I said it. It’s not going to change no matter what.

I might as well get the virus so I can spread it and create the pandemic so many people are talking about.
This is aging so well already.

The person from Bayer has not tested positive. There is still only 1 positive test in STL thus far. At this point, the whole situation is overblown. Use common sense, wash your hands, and carry on.

THIS is the most irresponsible take out there right now. "It's no big deal yet. Just wash your hands you big jabroni!"

Why do people need body bags to realize this needs to be addressed with serious measures right now? Lets be conservative and suppose that 0.5% of the population of StL requires hospitalization. That's 1500 people or 250 more people than beds at Barnes's CWE hospital, most of which already have sick people in them.

Stop being flippant.

The more likely % of people that will require hospitalization is between 2.5 and 5. Imagine 15K St. Louisans requiring hospitalization on the next 2-3 months? Seeing the seriousness yet?

Ridiculous measure: it benefits me, who can work from home and won't spend more because of that extra cash; doesn't benefit all the people who work in the services/hospitality industry who will be laid off because business will collapse, and really need cash to survive.

Or, the more susceptible elderly, who might not still be working in the first place.
