Looks like the wave of new dispensaries is starting to hit. If even 25% of the state applications come to fruition there will be a significant impact to the local retail scene.

One recreational facility in a region of 2.8 million. Pretty unfortunate. Champaign even got 2.

The maximum number the Metro East could have initially had was 2 anyway due to the state giving initial priority to existing medical dispensaries. The Green Solution in Sauget is the only other medical dispensary in the Metro East, and they're still waiting on their recreational license from the state. Once they get cleared, they'll be the second recreational facility. Additionally, the state is allowing existing medical dispensaries to open second locations in their areas. HCI has already said they're planning on opening a second location in Fairview Heights, and The Green Solution also plans on opening a second location but they haven't decided on where yet.

We won't be seeing more recreational facilities that weren't initially medical dispensaries until later when the state frees up more licenses. I think the first new batch happens in May.

Prices are 2x what I’ve seen in other cities on the west coast. Competition can’t come soon enough.

Really interested in what the medicinal prices will be on the STL side of the river when they hit in a few months. Considering a med card costs as little as $50, it's a pretty low cost of entry. Still several months away though so I'm sure HCI will be rolling in $$$ until then

Tom's posted on their facebook page that the property has a planned sale closing date of mid-August. A huge waste of a great bar space for a marijuana dispensary if you ask me. Apparently it all came down to the parking lot. They said that if the buyers back out, they will try to remain open. In the mean time, they're offering items from the bar such as barstools, cookware, and art. Not sure if they're selling or giving them away. They said to message them on Facebook or stop buy on Saturday between 9 a.m. and noon.

Too bad there aren't any other available storefronts in the CWE.

Between Tom's and ITAP closing, the CWE is really becoming too upscale. Most every regular bar and eatery is gone.

It's all small batch/gastro/elevated/craft/farm to table/artisanal joints where I have to google half the items on the menu.

sucks to see Tom's closing, but that corner needs to be better utilized. the parking lot has got to go. hope the dispensary doesn't happen.

^ That parking lot is perfect for a skinny mid-rise (or taller). Tom’s was my go to down there...this sucks.

CWE is missing a solid sports bar so bad.  Where would anyone go to watch sports in the CWE now?
Rosie's would be my choice.
I only discovered that place like 2 years ago, and I thought I went back in time.  It was awesome.

As for Tom's...that sucks.  Plus the fact it was chosen partially because of the parking lot, so even if it the deal goes through, the lot is staying.  Worst of both worlds.

I can't square this one. I see no world in which Tom's doesn't get a higher price for that land from a developer or Barnes/Wash U than whoever is opening the dispensary. Maybe current ownership is retaining a significant equity stake? Numbers aren't adding up for me.

We're about to leave the CWE after moving to STL for this neighborhood/FP since 2012, it's bittersweet, but with all of the staple closures it makes our move out of the neighborhood easier to swallow. Tom's is going to sting, along with ITAP, Llewelyns and Culpeppers - the every day type of joints.

^Just curious where you plan to go to get the old school CWE-type experience?

I would say Dogtown is a great option. Maybe SOHA or TGS.

We're not quite looking for that experience this time around, we have a daughter now and another one on the way.  We have a brick condo now but on the 3rd floor and no yard.  If this were 2018 it'd be really difficult to move from the CWE, and we've even talked about buying a small house in the neighborhood years back.  It's still a great neighborhood if you utilize all the amenities and services as we did from Dentist, to Eye Doctor, banks, Metrolink, library, groceries, pharmacy etc you really get the full experience.

We're fortunate enough to be able to get into the DeMun neighborhood (fingers crossed for the sale anyway).  To me, that's the next best thing with walking to 2 parks, highway access, some walkable restaraunts/bars/coffee shops and of course schools.

BOOOOOO

I love weed, but I loved Tom's even more.  I jumped off Metro a month or so ago on whim to see if the place was still open...it had already pretty much been cleared out.  Sucks.

If this is a step closer to the entire lot being redeveloped as a multi-story multi-use building, then I'm all for it.

^^ Exactly the reasons I liked Tom’s. Good crowd, good food, and, this is just my opinion, but I never got the sports bar vibe there. Yeah you could catch a local game...but if people went there looking for a sports bar type experience, they went to the wrong spot. Tom’s was just the perfect local *hole bar that every good neighborhood needs a couple of.

^ I thought I read somewhere they bought Tom’s specifically because it had a parking lot. So I wouldn’t bet on that, at least not in the near future.
