^Yeah, “technically” but realistically. Especially considering the article mentions the Delmar Loop, which primarily lies outside of the city limits of the “second-largest city”, the statement serves no purpose other than to downplay St Louis’ clear dominance in the state. Wouldn’t be surprised if the writer was from Kansas City.

^Honestly, they probably just looked at Wikipedia or in an atlas and saw the population stats and said "Ah." While folks from St. Louis (and Kansas City) get deeply bent and lose a lot of sleep about this I don't think it's necessary to see a conspiracy. Just a lack of deep familiarity. There are other signs of this. Who in town would honestly and with a strait face say that the Delmar loop is "easily" the most vibrant and eclectic street? Sure, it's vibrant and rather eclectic in that college town kind of way, but . . . there are LOTS of competitors for either or both titles. Not to disparage Delmar, but we have plenty of equally cool strips: Maryland, Cherokee, Middlingsouth Grand, Wa(r)shington (r optional depending on your original neighborhood) . . . Some of which are almost surely more vibrant or more eclectic. Though maybe not both. The balance is kind of a judgment call.
Anyway, what it mostly screams to me is "hey, an outside likes our town." And I like that. I can live with it. The minor errors are no big deal. It's a nice plug.

Not really national (it's more international), but it's cool and I hadn't seen (or surprisingly even heard of) this before. Apparently the St. Louis Fire Dept. and the Zurich Airport Fire Dept. had a 'job swap' last year where two firefighters from each department swapped jobs for a week, I believe, for a Swiss TV show called "Jobtausch" (German for job exchange/swap). Everyone seemed to enjoy the experience and the two Swiss firefighters (and Swiss viewers) got exposed to a lot of St. Louis, including the not-so-nice but just as important aspects of it, and handled themselves very well. Note: this is the Swiss broadcast, so the narration is German and the spoken "German" isn't subbed (hell I'm fluent in German and even I found most of the Zurich German dialect utterly unintelligible), but the English isn't dubbed over, just subbed in places, so most everyone should be able to get the general gist of everything.

I've always found St. Louis' architecture to be one of the great, if not the greatest, selling points of the city. Everyone knows the Arch, the Cards, the Blues, and the wonderful Zoo. I'd love to see the CVC and others use more of the City's architecture and it's density and walkablity to sell St. Louis more often then they currently do.

^Nice catch there MRNHS! And while it's an article on taxes, hardly the subject of page turners, it's an easy read and it's nice to see us discussed in what is in many ways a fairly complimentary light. (And it's a discussion worth having and the Times hits the right note, I think.)

^There's materials sitting on it at the top of the frame. The concrete is new, but dry. I think he just walked through a rain puddle. You can see water on the slab next to that, to the left of the shaft at the bottom of the frame. Just a damp day. But anyway, yeah, it's a nice picture.
