I wouldn't say I like the mesh but I do like how it is now blocking the view of the cars that you can see in the first one. There is probably a better way to do it but that is the one thing I like better about it. I would rather the street facing side have a different face instead of the mesh though. It is blah. I am curious to see other sides of the building like others mentioned.
I think putting five floors in each of the top two tiers greatly improves the overall proportions of the tower. It breaks up the rhythm, and emphasizes the height.
I'm still very eager to hear about the materials and detailing; items that can make or break a design (although I have complete faith in Jean Gang and her associates). Overall, I'm thrilled that they're going ahead with this radical design. I was half worried that in the end they'd revert back to something safe and boring.

If the height is still the same, maybe they've decided to make the upper floors taller. You could very easily do that and it wouldn't even be visible from street level, thanks to perspective. (Would even improve the look, actually. There's a funny trick to the naives of French cathedrals that makes them look longer: the choir is sometimes very slightly askew to the naive, thus reducing visual foreshortening just enough to make them look a little longer. This could be a similar idea. And it gives your upper floors a little more luxe. Which . . . well. They do have their ways of getting the most bang for their luxe bucks and we do need those bucks. And it really is nice to get invited over to the king's house for dinner, when you can manage it. All that said . . . I am slowly getting more excited about this. It's grown on me. It'll be pretty. A lot will depend on what they do for glass, how reflective it is, what color. I'll be interested to see more renderings and more details about materials, but I'm pretty comfortable this won't suck. Not a bit. Even that "mesh" could be quite different depending on what it is.
I 100% agree. I'm excited to see some on-site material mock-ups. As for the change in the top two tiers, I REALLY hope this was guided by Jeanne Gang and her office and not MAC. Not even joking, this building could push Jeanne Gang up to Pritzker recognition.
Something else that hasn't been mentioned is the lack of parapet (the part of the exterior wall that extends up past the roof). You can see in the new rendering that part of a penthouse structure is visible. SO, one reason may have been that MAC wanted the parapet eliminated to better utilize a community roof terrace without adding more floors.
While this practice hasn't been banned outright, Fire Marshals usually don't allow this any more. It creates confusion during emergencies. But yes, I'm counting 30 floors of residential, and 4 or 5 floors of garage. Maybe they're counting a rooftop terrace as 36. Possibly a penthouse residence.
Lol. As previously noted, the skipping the 13th floor thing is by and large an urban legend. It didn't happen much to start with, and doesn't happen now.
Granted, I haven't been in a whole lot of towers in STL, but the Mansion House complex is the only building I can think of off hand that skips 13.
My job has taken me into many high rises over the years, and I've seen quite a few that do skip #13; seems to be mostly older buildings.
The Hawthorne Apartments on West Pine just east of Taylor, a sixteen-story building built in 1928, skips the thirteenth floor (i.e. there are apartments numbered 17xx).

I went by the site today. Crews were putting up fencing barriers around the site and one of the workers said that there will be wraps around the fences advertising One Hundred. He also said that the Groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday will be on site and immediately after, the heavy equipment will move in.
HA. It has to be one of my viewers. They immediately followed me and my website then NextSTL and Jason Deem and then you name it. I followed them back for the hell of it. HOPEFULLY they share some cool things and don’t spam people.
So I learned this morning that my older brother, Nick, made the One Hundred twitter account, he then gave it to me because of how I like this kind of stuff. But I decided to hand it over to MAC. They said that they will use it as the tower’s official twitter account. I am glad I don’t have to manage a Twitter account like that but at least they have a Twitter for the project!

Since it's the same architect, same developer, and One Hundred is basically an iteration of the same design (albeit a simpler more monumental one), hopefully Solstice on the Park is an accurate indication of what can be expected in terms of materials and finished product:

100,300,1 Cardinal Way are going to be great additions to the St.Louis Skyline Im hoping theres a few more high-rises planned for both the CWE and Downtown possibly midtown too
^ These towers will be modestly tall, but do we think they will have a really big impact on the skyline? I'm thinking St. Louis will need a few 500ft+ towers to really have a dramatic effect on the skyline. What do you guys think?

100 and Centene Tower are too far from the riverfront but will bee seen from all over the City/County.

I think One Hundred complimenting The Chase will be the most dramatic... Art Hill is gonna be a great observation point. Similarly would also love to have a modern partner to the Continental in Grand Center. The downtown towers won't have as dramatic an effect but they will balance the skyline a bit on the southside of Market.
(btw, you could see some cranes in the Nashville skyline during the Blues/Predators national broadcast today and that's a good thing as that downtown's present skyline looks pretty sleepy.)

Was noticing that this morning too. More so thinking of what it must be like to have a downtown where companies actually want to be.
