I was reading Inc mags reasoning on why KC is a dark horse and one reasoning was it has lots of culture. If KC has lots of culture then i wonder if St.Louis doesn't

Most seem to disregard St.Louis's existence

Either way kudos to KC.....

If they don't pick MinneAPPLEis, I don't even know what we're doing here.

I'm unclear if Apple has already picked or if they're looking, but nonetheless, I've already sent a plea to Tim Cook (tcook@apple.com).

Hopefully representatives from Cortex are on this. Apple would be a great fit for Cortex! If somebody has contacts within Cortex, see if they've inquired.

I believe this has been recanted. They are hiring 20K between their two existing HQs in Cuppertino and Austin.

I think you mean Apple, not Amazon.

^Yeah, that's what we're talking about. I think I caused some confusion by tacking it onto this thread rather than starting a new one.

I think the following/last paragraph in the article noted (copied below) whether it be Amazon or Apple or any other large companies demanding cleaner energy sources is something that should be concerning to region's economic developers. The reality is that TX or the likes of Iowa & NC (big data center states) and most of the west & northern plains are way ahead of MO and the region in renewable energy because of wind turbine development alone and ever growing solar. Would be kinda of neat if Mississippi hydro plant could be develop/added to the lock & dam in conjunction with north riverfront development.

The announcement also notes the company will initially use the new headquarters for technical support staff, and will be “powered entirely by green energy.” Apple will also increase its investment in an advanced manufacturing fund from $1 to $5 billion, and invest $10 billion in new data centers (which the company notes, are all powered by 100 percent renewable power).

Interesting to note that several shuttle buses taking employees from San Francisco to Apple and Google headquarters in Silicon Valley have been attacked in transit. Perhaps it's time for these companies to start looking for more welcoming cities.

Correct, I was replying to the posting regarding AAPL. Should have posted the necessary ^^^^^^^^^^.

AMZN is adding a second headquarters. AAPL has stated they are hiring between their existing headquarters in Cuppertino and Austin.

As expected Saint Louis did not make the cut. I think our closest "rivals" that did get into the final 20 are Indy, Pitt, Col, & Nash.

This is really pathetic. Cities that St Louis should have beat out are on this list. The entire proposal should be made public.

Also of note, Detroit did not make it either.

So no KC, Detroit, Minneapolis either.

Rooting for Indy or Columbus. Although it looks like DC has the best chance with 3 :!: proposals in the region moving through.

Surprised to not see Detroit on there. The Indy and Columbus inclusions are the only two that kind of irk me (and I'm sure folks in Detroit as well).

VERY strong showing for D.C., which basically garnered 3 of the 20 final spots. Followed by New York with 2 of the 20 spots.

I don't think minn put in a bid. If they did they were pretty up front about it not being strong.

Houston and New Orleans aren't on the list either. Not sure what kind of bid they put together. I am interested to see if the proposals start coming out to compare them.

Besides some East Coast suburbs of DC, I don't really see any city that has obviously less business dynamism than St Louis on the list.

I really think (and said all along) that Amazon is "playing" with every city in North America.

1) Minneapolis - Target country (as in the store)

The "Top 20" picks:

1) Indy, Columbus, Raleigh and Pittsburgh: All smaller cities (1.5 million to 2 millionish metros). Pittsburgh has light rail but smaller airport than even Nashville/STL. The others have no mass transit systems. The others have small airports with limited service. Indy, however, has FedEx air hub - but if Amazon planes their own shipping cargo hub in the future - why?

2) Nashville: I can see. Although smaller city metro (but growing) but no mass transit system (one under consideration but years away from operations - but so could Amazon's HQ's).

3) All the rest I can see.

We've got to fix our national reputation by getting out of the headlines for crime, protests and police shootings, consolidate this ridiculously divided region and start promoting what we all know makes STL great. Nothing new, but perception is reality right now for STL and it's up to us as a region, as voters, to change that!
