Is it just me or have the shootings been even more intense the last few days or so? Just a few of the incidents off the top of my head:
  • Rolling gun battle down 4th street downtown, one bystander critically injured by gunshot, another grazed (two separate locations).
  • 7-11 worker on smoke break has shootout with armed robber. Armed robber killed. Worker shot in leg.
  • Man accidentally(?) killed when gunshot goes through apartment wall and kills neighbor.

The crime in STL this summer is going to be off the charts. This last week has been quite the welcome to your new job, Lyda. I hope she's up to the task because we could very well be the laughing-stock of the country this summer, if we aren't already.
What do you have to base your claims? Also, a high crime rate is not a laughing matter. It is not a joke, people are being killed. Most people view cities with horrific crime problems like Chicago, New Orleans, St Louis, Baltimore through a lens of concern. I think we all can agree on the other hand that St Louis needs to look for a new police chief of the Bill Bratton type. We need someone to come in and clean house.
Do you understand the term "laughing-stock"? I know it''s not a laughing matter, Mr. Sanctimonious. And what do I have to base my claims? My answer, look what's happening right now as the weather warms, dunderhead. 3 more killed today. This metro area may have 500 murders this year.

500 homicides would be a huge increase for the Metro... F.B.I. reports aren't out yet for 2016 but in 2015 we had 295... probably a little higher last year with the increase in the county. y.t.d. we're running slightly below last year in the city (although maybe ahead in the county).

Hey there, no need to get defensive. I was not at all intending to be disrespectful. I was just more so trying to say that solving the regions crime problem should not purely be done for vanity, but out of an actual desire to solve the problem. In reality, St Louis will not even come close to 500 murders. Besides Chicago, no U.S. city has come remotely close in the last few years.

I predicted that the County would surpass the City in homicides in 10 years due to changing demographics and continued emptying out of the North Side.

I'm revising that number down to 5 years.

Sadly theres nothing Lyda or a new Chief of police "as for the previous mayors and police chiefs" can do about keeping people from annihilating each other to pieces.. Seems like cities with a good lump some of African Americans are being pulverized.. I know some will get offended however this is my opinion. Seems like this is becoming an epidemic not 1 is being slaughtered but 3-5 at a time which is beyond terrifying.. If anyone thinks this is ok needs professional help.. Its not ok for city of barely 300k to be approaching 200 homicides a year its completely unacceptable and the people going out doing this are beyond an embarrassment and are sick.. I'm done with the same lame excuses of the lack of jobs transportation investment education etc. no more free passes for these imbeciles :x ! These choice neighborhoods seem to do a good job of coddling condoning incubating this type of behavior..
They may be born and raised in St.Louis but to me they'll never represent St.Louis for me or with me these are the types of slum i'll never show sympathy for! Karma does eventually come back.

Just looking at the murder numbers in the Post today St. Louis city and county could hit 500 murders this year. Disgusting.

What kind of creative accounting are you using?

According to this front page article 2016 murders were 188 city and 76 in the county for a total of 264. County homicides are up 15% but that's still no where near 500.

^ I don't think adding all other counties in the metro you won't get to 500. Which actually brings up another question, is crime rising in the other counties since it might be something worth noting.

^ I posted above the Metro had 295 homicides in 2015... likely somewhat higher last year since there was an increase in the County; not sure what happened in Metro East but still likely under 350 metro total even if there was an uptick there.

Since Prop P passed in the county, the vacuum effect of officers retiring or leaving the city for county jobs is only going to accelerate unless more are hired. The benefits simply aren't attractive enough right now especially with the current workload.

I love how all the anti-city commenters conveniently forgot that a woman was shot in the face by a stray bullet out in High Ridge a couple years ago. Also love the comments about how concealed guns in the stadium would have somehow solved everything. It really is ***** hopeless. I'm riding this ship to the bottom, but the St. Louis region is over. Not because a woman was shot in the elbow in the city, but because that's how everybody in this sh*t hole of a state wants it.

Jeez, guys, you know you should never, ever read the comments! And remember; every city in the country has the same types of comments, so it really isn't a St. Louis thing.

^ i know. i just went there to remind them all about the incident in High Ridge and to tell them all to STFU (which totally would have worked, i think) but i always forget that you have to have a Facebook account and i'm not doing that.
