UAL has resumed their mainline service from STL to EWR. The rotation is on 738s and A320s. I believe they stay around until early September.
DAL has also begun cycling through the 752 again to Atlanta. It comes through twice. Once in the morning, and then returns in the evening.

That is correct. United has 757s there occasionally, I think they are sports charters. Last year I got a surprise upgauge and got to fly on out on one.
What's with the band extending north-northwest from the airport? Maybe planes turn off the runway to go North or back East in that direction. I feel like I have been on planes that made that turn off the runway pretty quickly after takeoff. I live over kind of by Clayton in U City and planes go over my house all the time. I am assuming they didn't add airports that didn't have jet planes (or many jets). Does Smart have any jets that land there?

My charts are out of date, but there is or was a TACAN approach to 12R that looked like that. TACAN is a military system, but even without the AirNG base there's still a fair few military operations in and out. Not sure why the TACAN approach was/is so far out of kilter from the ILS approach, but it's different by fully twenty degrees. (Or at least was the for the fourteen year old charts I use for my creaky sim.) The runway heading for 12 is 122, but the TACAN has you flying 142 to just about the threshold. I . . . don't get it. But I pretty much never play with the military hardware in the sims. Anyway, I'm guessing that's what it is. Aircraft on climbout tend to get high enough quick enough that their noise footprint is actually rather smaller. (And they usually fly runway heading to probably three thousand anyway.) It's aircraft gliding in that you hear. The engines may be set to barely more than flight idle, but they're lower a lot longer so you hear them more. So I'm guessing that's an approach vector. Probably that TACAN approach. 12R is one with arresting gear, I believe. And I believe carrier pilots fly off axis for reasons of ship's course and air off the island and such oddities that don't really apply to concrete aircraft carriers, but . . . train like you fly and fly like you train? I suppose if you fly straight up the wake of your "airport" and you want to land on the angled deck (which I believe is the usual procedure) you'd be accustomed to making a last second louie before touching down. Honestly, approaching a moving runway from anything that wasn't dead astern would be . . . a really really complicated math question. That's probably the way you have to do it. And that's probably why that funny lobe is there. Fly in 142 and turn runway heading at the last minute as you pretend Lambert is steaming east at twenty five knots or so. Just a guess, but . . . that's my guess, anyway.

Connected through St Louis this last Friday on my way to Phoenix via Southwest from LGA. For the first time in my memory, we had a departure queue 8 aircraft in length. We departed at I believe 5:30, but the line was primarily made up of Southwest, American, and Delta.
Delta is adding a handful of new non stops from Boston. Kansas City is getting one but not us...
JAX/BUF/AUS are some others. Nashville is getting a 2nd daily.
One of these days we will get it (or someone else besides Southwest)... hopefully...

As much as I would love to see more Delta here, I don't think we will. I really don't see them adding anymore routes to/from STL, as they really never took hold of #2 here for very long after American dehubbed, while in Kansas City they are a strong #2. Any hope for additional BOS service will probably come from JetBlue, which from my understanding is most likely something we will hear about within the year.
Also, I found a thread on airliners.net (http://www.airliners.net/forum/viewtopi ... #p19385121) that talks about the "innapropriate" use of RJ's on lengthy routes. Pretty much all UAL routes from STL except ORD get the bashing. They even say St Louis (albeit not the fault of the airport) is the worst offender of all when it comes to RJs. I really agree with this. I don't see why UAL doesn't just drop all the RJ flights from EWR and consolidate them to two A319s, same with Houston. Neither airport is a major connection point for STL traffic, so I don't see why this hasn't occurred. Also, it appears Delta has upgauged all MCI-ATL service to the 752. MCI also is now getting AAL A321s cycling through. Would really love to see more upgauging at STL. However I'm sure SWA being such a major center here changes that dynamic.

I am pretty sure we get so many RJs (especially on UA) because of Trans States and their affiliates being based here. JetBlue would be fine also. Probably better. I just want someone else to start STL-BOS to get the price down. When JetBlue went into Nashville the price went way down. It is around $70 each way now. The U.S. Transportation Department said on Monday it has granted preliminary approval to St. Louis to explore putting its city-owned airport under private management.

I find this quote from Slay as Biz Journals article stating that city could gain millions more is laughable considering that any private operate is going to seek a decent return on investment. The current director has done a pretty good job of cutting/controlling costs after Lambert was dehubbed and maintain its heavy debt load. Former Mayor Francis Slay told the Business Journal at the time that the move could free up millions of dollars more from the airport, perhaps helping the city invest in projects like a north-south MetroLink expansion.

This is the part I don't get. I don't get how privatizing it helps the airport. It sounds like they just want to be able to take more money out of the airport to use on other things in the city. The airport already has a big debt it needs to pay off, so I don't really think we need to be taking money out of it at the moment. Like you said, whoever comes in is going to want a cut out of the pie. Unless they can make more than their cut then I don't get how this helps anything. It seems like the airport has been going in the right direction again the last few years so I don't know why we should be messing up a good thing. I will reserve judgement until I see what the actual plan would be but I don't feel too optimistic.

Interesting to see how the traffic numbers break down. If i crunch the numbers right it seems growth is well balanced between local demand and connections. Also note for the year the numbers won't look as good since there was one less day this February than last. Just seems local demand is growing a bit faster than national average lately.
Also since its not mentioned yet. But how will the change in allowing rideshare services statewide effect the dropoff and pickup areas. I have heard there is something to be worked out in order to make sure this doesn't create a mess of congestion.

The growth at STL is phenomenal. T2 really is bustling. This is a very pleasant surprise. Sales for this route must have been doing very well to bump frequency to daily over the summer and this fast in. The latter is something that is something Southwest seems to be doing some now in changing things close in. Looking at the timetable it seems to be relying in large part local traffic demand based on departure/arrivial time here, so maybe there has been a lot of local demand stimulated.
