Although, I do think they never really thought they would get 80 mil (and they shouldn't have), I do think some of the not blinking was because they pretty much had to accept was Scott told them he would vote for or it was going to be dead. I'm not religiously opposed to public support for stadiums (and desperately want a MLS team), but I'm just not convinced this is the best deal the City could have negotiated. Afterall, (1) the ownership group didn't blink when it dropped its request from $80m to $60m and (2) there was no reduction in the request after MLS announced the expansion fee would be $150m and not $200m.
I do think they shouldn't have ever thrown out the expansion fee price initially. They should have just said they were going to pay whatever it is.
