We haven't heard much about this Pinnacle development down in Lemay. Any word on progress or any webcams to view?

I read on Pinnacle's website they had a groundbreaking back in 2005, but I haven't heard much of this project. Is it being built?

I frequently drive near the site and see no evidence of construction traffic. However I have noticed that tenets in building targeted to be demolished for the new casino road have recently been evicted.

According to Pinnacle this is supposed to open in late 2008

Construction also is under way for Pinnacle's new $375 million River City Casino & Hotel in Lemay, Mo., which is scheduled to open in late 2008.

^ That sounds consistent with what I've heard.

It looks like most of work on River City Casino will begin once Lumiere Place is complete.

It looks like most work going on now is infrastructure work. They have torn up many of the sewers here in fair Lemolia and they are building a large, new one just south of River des Peres at Lemay Ferry. They have bought out a few buildings for the RdP/Carondelet/Weber extension. Any noticeable construction at the site probably won't start till thats all done.

With this project (yea!) and the proposed Wal-Mart anchored center (boo!), Lemay could look much different in just two or three years.

Where exactly is this casio going to be built? My wife and I drive around there all the time, trying to fingerpoint where the casino will be but we can never figure it out.

We live right on the Lemay / Mehlville border so we are very interested to see how this all plays out. It could either totally change the area for the better with the new theaters, resturaunts, etc. or, it could do nothing but attract the low-income residents of Lemay and some South City neighborhoods, which in turn would scare everyone else away, and do nothing but put a odd looking, low traffic casino in an old industrial neighborhood.

For example, has that Boone County casino totally revamped that city? Not the last time I was there.

On the old National Lead property at roughly South Broadway and Hoffmeister.

Oh jondk, not all of us from fair Lemolia are scary! And just because were low income doesn't make us bad people!

Have you ever been to a casino ANYWHERE in this country? You aren't exactly gaming at le Casino de Monte-Carlo. The gaming populace runs a pretty big spectrum.

I go the casino out at St Charles every now and then and I've played next to big wigs, blue haired gammys, horny fratboys, and a man that was in a wheelchair with oxygen tank with a cig in one hand and a cigar in the other.

I agree that a casino will not revamp an enitre area, but they do provide a sh*t load of jobs and thats something Lemay and bedroom-south county needs.

~~~~~
Almost forgot- They finally demolished the old buildings on Lemay at the River des Peres bridge for the road extension. Rather sad they had to go, but the fact they even remained after the 93 flood was something.
Sorry TIAB, I didn't mean to offend anyone or make any stereotypes on my previous post, although now that I go back and read it, I think I did just that :(
Yes, I have been to casinos before. For me, our casino's are nothing like the ones in Las Vegas and you just don't get that same experience or feeling when gambling in MO than you do in Las Vegas.
Bottom line - I love the area that I live in and I just would hate to see the Lemay Casino fail and have a negative impact on the area. But, I guess anything is better than what there is now.
any updates on the construction of this casino, if any?
The Lumiere Place is looks to be complete sometime by December. Like some of you said and I believe is once they finish with Lumiere they will start focusing work on River City.
I've got a brother in law who lives down there. He hasn't seen much activity going on there recently.
Not really anything major, but it's news nonetheless.
I wish they would stop stating the 2008 opening date, there is no way they will make that unless they decide to move the Admiral to the site.
100 room hotel... That's it? I guess they don't anticipate too many out of town patrons.
Well, Ameristar doesn't have a hotel either, so I guess they'll be fine.
Are you on crack? They're in the throes of building St. Chucks Petronas Towers. 25 stories, 300 rooms.
Yes. They currently don't have a hotel. My point was that they have survived 10+ yrs without a hotel. :roll:
I noticed last night that work on the site has commenced. Not sure what exactly they are doing but the old D-Map property is getting an environmental cleanup and there is some sort of pier work closer to the river, might be part of the infrastructure.
All-in-all not such bad news. It's very very common that a project gets cheapened (re-designed) due to budgetary concerns. BTW - if they can get an act of Congress to build a connection from I-55 to a freakin' casino, why can't we get an exemption for the I-70 lid downtown, or for the development of parts of the Arch grounds!?!?!? :evil:
The casino is being "cheapened" because of all the non casino stuff Pinnacle agree to/ is being forced to build is much more expensive than originally planned.
Let's hope the south county casino gets built because the taxes generated for the first five years will benefit the Lemay area through improvements to transportation facilities, creation of parks and possibly a community center and more. Social Justice if you will.
Can't say a delay at this point is really a surprise. Downtown has already been delayed and it is pretty far along.
