There's a nice, big one available right across the river.

^For a casino though, its not so nice and no so big...

It is just really hard for me to imagine how Pinnacle will find three different target markets, for three different casinos, all within, what, 6 miles of each other...in St. Louis?

Pinnacle sets new plan for Lemay casino

Tim Barker

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

12/06/2007

Las Vegas-based Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. said Wednesday that it has a new deal with St. Louis County on its planned River City casino in Lemay.

Pinnacle has agreed to increase the total investment to $450 million on its complex on the old National Lead site. Originally, the company had pledged to spend at least $300 million, though executives later said it more likely would be $375 million.

The new agreement also allows Pinnacle to break the development into two phases, pushing back its plans for a hotel, with at least 100 rooms, by as long as three years.

The first phase, including the casino, several restaurants and a community center, is slated to open in the first half of 2009, instead of 2008 as once planned.

Also, as part of the new agreement, Pinnacle is moving up its $5.1 million contribution to the community center and athletic fields. The company is giving the money to the county now instead of when the casino opens.

While the county is eager to see the project up and running, the trade-offs in the new agreement are worth it, said Denny Coleman, president of the St. Louis County Economic Council

"There have been some changes in the time line, but there's also significantly more in total investment," Coleman said.

Pinnacle previously had said it was delaying the opening of the River City casino by six months.

The company said it needed to focus on its $507 million casino, Lumière Place, in downtown St. Louis. That casino is set to open Dec. 19.

Is there any word of when they will resume on this project? I drove by where I assume they will be putting the roadway in. I was driving along Broadway to see if I could anything. The only thing that I noticed was a bridge that was being built coming from the river towards Broadway. Also looks like there is work going on with the Weber and Lemay Ferry intersection.

Is the road work being done on the south side of River Des Peres part of this prep and construction? I still am having a hard time wrapping my brain around building a casino that is basically not in the line of site of any interstate.

From what I saw the road leading to the casino comes out to Lemay by River Des Peres/Carondelet/Germania/Weber or what ever the call the street there. Its not to far from the exit from 55 for Germania and Carondelet. I hope I am naming these exits right. If not I hope you at least know where I am talking about. I just wish with these two exits they would build bridges of River Des Peres for better access.

Just an FYI. An article in Wednesday's Phila. Inquirer announced that Pinnacle had delayed the start of construction of its proposed Atlantic City casino because of turmoil in the credit markets. And in the grand tradition of St. Louis, they imploded a 25 year old casino to make way for the new one, which is now (and will be for the foreseeable future) a parking lot.

Hate to be Debbie Downer, but I would not be surprised at all if the same fate awaits this project.

AC MIGHT be delayed... And I'm pretty sure River City was a package deal with LP...

here is the ap article I was emailed on thursday...

Pinnacle's AC casino contingent on credit markets

By WAYNE PARRY | Associated Press Writer

4:38 PM EST, February 26, 2008

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - The chairman of Pinnacle Entertainment on Tuesday said the company may abandon its $2 billion mega-casino project on the Boardwalk if credit markets don't improve.

While stressing that the company still expects lending conditions to improve before the anticipated groundbreaking in late 2009, chairman and CEO Daniel Lee said Pinnacle could conceivably scrap the project if funding remains difficult for an extended time.

"I've been asked, 'How the hell are you going to build in Atlantic City?"' Lee said on a conference call to discuss the company's year-end earnings. "The answer is if credit markets don't improve, we won't build. We're not going to go broke building in Atlantic City."

However, Lee said he fully expects markets to improve long before the point where a decision on whether to scrap the Atlantic City project becomes necessary.

"I'm confident the credit markets will improve before the architects are done designing the building," he said.

Pinnacle bought the former Sands Hotel Casino and demolished it last October to make way for a large casino-hotel project on the Boardwalk. The as-yet unnamed project is still in the design stage.

"We're still at the point of compiling our dreams of what can go into that property, and they're pretty big," Lee said. "It's a big part of this company's future."

Even if markets don't improve quickly, Lee said the company could wait awhile to begin the Atlantic City project.

"We don't have a gun to our heads," he said.

Steve Capp, Pinnacle's chief financial officer, also said he expects credit markets to come back "as they have cyclically in the past."

But Lee added, "The credit market is essentially closed. We have competitors with half-built buildings that they can't finish. We have a policy of not starting something unless we're relatively sure we have the money to finish it."

Should the markets not rebound, he said, "The whole question of if and when you're going to build in Atlantic City is going to become moot."

Lee said Pinnacle's land in Atlantic City is not for sale, and that there are no plans to put it on the market. But if that became necessary, he said, the proceeds from a sale could help fund other Pinnacle projects elsewhere in the country.

He also said the company would look into taking on a partner for projects including Atlantic City if it became necessary.

Kim Townsend, chief executive officer of Pinnacle Atlantic City, said plans for the casino are still moving forward, including the acquisition of land around it.

Lee said in November that Pinnacle might be interested in building a second Atlantic City casino at the former Bader Field airport site, but Townsend said that interest has dissipated, given the current market conditions.

"The Boardwalk needs to be completed first," she said. "We feel strongly the Boardwalk is the place to be."

This is Pinnacle's preferred sight, the downtown casino was only built as a deal with the state to get the Lemay location. I wouldn't worry that there will be a delay.

I'm pretty confident work will eventually proceed at River City Casino. As previously stated, this was Pinnacle's preferred site. Road work is in progress as the new connector road is being constructed between Lemay Ferry Road and Broadway, and a viaduct east of Broadway near the Mississippi River that will eventually lead into the casino complex is under construction.

Of course there may be delays, but I'm not worried about the project's future. Wish I could say the same for some other big name projects in this town.

I'm sorry if I sound dumb, but I need some clarification.

I have been living in KC for the last few years and out of the StL news. I remember voting on a Lemay casino which passed (or at least I thought I remember a vote for or against a Lemay casino).

Back then and for awhile, wasn't this supposed to be an Isle of Capri casino? And right now, it's it going to be called Atlantic City? Any links to this project? I really hope this does well. Lemay looks like it needs something to revamp it. I'm from South County and I'd love to see that area come back alive and well.

Thanks!

Wow, you are confused. I guess you didn't bother checking out Pinnacle's development website as I suggested. The Atlantic City project is NOT this project, It's in AC, NJ. This Project is River City and and is located in Lemay, MO. (Hence the name of the thread.) River City should be open late '09.

St. Louis County seeks input on Lemay community center

St. Louis Business Journal

As part of a preliminary study for a planned new community center in Lemay, Mo., several St. Louis County government departments and Ankeny Kell Architects will host workshops June 4 and June 5 to get input from Lemay residents. The exact location of the new center will be announced at the June 4 session.

The St. Louis County Port Authority, St. Louis County Parks Department and Lemay Community Facilities Committee are scheduled to complete a study for the new center by the end of the summer, according to a release Thursday from the St. Louis County Economic Council.

According to Nancy Schnoebelen, vice president of marketing and communications for the St. Louis County Economic Council, a total budget for the center has not yet been set. She told the Business Journal that $5 million in funding has already been provided for construction of the new center by Las Vegas-based Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. (NYSE: PNK).

Pinnacle is providing "significant" funding for the center, according to the release, through its contractual agreement with the St. Louis County Port Authority and St. Louis County for the construction of the planned $450 million River City casino development in Lemay.

No doubt. Virgin location for casinos, with plenty of highway traffic and population bases that don't want to drive out to Maryland Heights.

My hope: the continued economic redevelopment of Lemay.
