I've seen those renderings beforehand, and they've always been a pain to photograph with clarity.

The one thing about them with my biggest interest is the section of park land that the second picture shows. Those are sports fields, which are to be part of a public park on a portion of the land on the Southwest corner, right near the school and the nuns. I have yet to see the final renderings of the area (unless those are them), but Pinnacle did commit to establishing a large portion of non-casino public recreation land on their site, to appease the locals (including nuns & politicians) and provide an increase in sports facilities in Lemay, with upkeep by the company. They may be right at a casino, but they will be new athletic fields for kids in SoCo.

Love the walking trails and recreation. This is a great project that St. Louis County won for the residents of Lemay and unincorporated South County, maybe more of North County should become unincorporated to benefit from the dealmaking of the County.

How far above the 1993 flood level is this development?

The ballfields look great, but the casino design is completely out of place. Would someone please tell those guys that it's the Mississippi next door, not the Mediterranean!

I'll take Mediterranean any day over the Branson Funland School of Architecture implemented by the Ameristar (Its A Beige box with little castle points on it!) and the Casino Queen (the nicest Chucky Cheese in the world!).

For where it is and the different elements it contains on the site I don't see why the layout/design is so "misplaced" either. Its practically an island where it is. Like the Mills, but with gambling!

Has anyone else noticed that the new road to this development is sitting under flood water? Its the portion just east of Alabama Ave. I wondered why some sections of it were being built so low but thought they must know what they were doing. Perhaps they can go back and adjust the grade, just another example of your tax dollars at work!

Off topic, but interesting to contrast what's being planned elsewhere in the MidWest.

I was at Jefferson Barracks park this weekend: looks like work continues on the access road to the casino. My guess is that they really can't start going to town until the roads are done. They'll have to haul butt to make early 2010.

At River City, Pinnacle’s $380 million casino project in Lemay in south St. Louis County, the company said it has erected about 90 percent of the building’s structural steel and now expects to open it in early 2010 instead of the end of 2009.

Then they must be bringing stuff in by a different road than I saw. I was under the impression that was the only road in/out, but they must have other access.

^There is another road. Hoffmeister off Broadway around the MSD treatment plant. It is split by railroad tracks, so there can be delays when trains come. The deck on the new overpass over the Ivory yard was recently poured, so the new road should be ready for construction use soon.

Pinnacle: River City Casino work continues

By Tim Logan

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

For all the doom and gloom around commercial real estate these days, here’s one high-profile project still moving forward: The new River City Casino being built in Lemay.

In its first-quarter earnings report released Friday, Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. said that work continues on the $380 million casino. It has completely enclosed the building and is beginning interior construction. The access road to the casino is expected to open to the public on March 28. By the end of March, a little less than half of the project - $160 million worth - was complete, Pinnacle said, and the casino was on track to open in the first quarter of 2010, pending a final OK from the Missouri Gaming Commission, of course.

While Pinnacle and other casino companies have put new projects on hold in the last year due to the weak lending market, it had lined up financing for River City before the market turned south.

This place is about ready to open (I made a delivery there today). It's HUGE. Way bigger than I expected, with really, really big parking lots. The South County crowd will love it. I worry that it's gonna suck a lot of customers away from Lumeire downtown.

Which is why Khan should put a new Rams Stadium (Edward Jones Field  ) in place of the Casino Queen Hotel and Casino.

St Louis is a big market for Casinos, the problem is WE support it more than anyone else.

First off, I'm excited that this place is opening soon, but I'd like to know how the hell St. Louis County gets to rename two St. Louis City streets? Who is the idiotic alderman that gave them the right to do this?

Tsk, Tsk. It was a good trade, I think for the city. The county gave jobs to city workers in the casino in exchange for the right to rename two streets and possibly acquire a city to be named later.

I can only imagine that this place will eventually be home to some of the best mullet watching in the midwest, if not the country.
