For those of us outside of the area that usually stick with the blockbusters, when and where do movies like this usually make themselves available for viewing, renting, etc.?

The filmmakers are hoping to get it on PBS - don't know whether just local or national. If that happens, you may be able to watch it online. Or maybe they will put the entire film on their website once they're done with the festivals and premieres. They're showing it at numerous film festivals across the county and in Europe...
Regardless of where this particular film is located, you can always see indie films throughout various theaters in the city. The theaters that most often show indie films are the Tivoli, Moolah, Chase Park Plaza Cinema, and Plaza Frontenac. The two closest for you are the Moolah, followed by the Chase Park Plaza, but the rest really aren't that much further.shimmy wrote:For those of us outside of the area that usually stick with the blockbusters, when and where do movies like this usually make themselves available for viewing, renting, etc.?
That's Landmark Cinemas you're referring to, and don't forget the Hi-Point as well. These are the only movie theaters that I go to. I can't watch Hollywood schlock. It's worse than a vinyl sided house in the suburbs.
Well I'm in Vermont for the next 2 1/2 months, so maybe I'll be able to catch it online or at one of those theaters. I always wanted to watch a movie in the Moolah, and this film would seem appropriate.

It's highly, highly unlikely this would ever play at the Moolah. Most likely it will play the festival circuit, if at all. If it does ok there, it could get a 1 week run at the Tivoli, in one of the small rooms.shimmy wrote:Well I'm in Vermont for the next 2 1/2 months, so maybe I'll be able to catch it online or at one of those theaters. You seem pretty confident about that, Scrutinizer. You in the film business?the central scrutinizer wrote:It's highly, highly unlikely this would ever play at the Moolah. Any exactly who do you think YOU are Mr. the59king? What do you know about the film business?
So who knows more? the59king or someone who knows someone in the industry?

Maybe we could place some bets on whether this ever plays the Moolah. No? I didn't think so.Alex Ihnen wrote:Any exactly who do you think YOU are Mr. the59king? What do you know about the film business? So who knows more? the59king or someone who knows someone in the industry?

If/when the59king says it's going to play at the Moolah, I'll trust him.

Sure I'd love to see this film on the big screen at Moolah sitting in a comfy couch with a pint of Schlafly next to me
But it probably ain't gonna happen--and I'm fine with that. The Moolah has only one screen so even the "artsy" movies they play are the ones that have bigger draws.
This film will draw more interest in STL--but even here it won't put enough butts in the seat to warrant giving up their only screen for it.
Films like this were meant for multi screened art houses like The Tivoli--which is cool, I can get a Schlaflys there too

So, on my scorecard you're making confident predictions about the ability of a film you've not seen to employ a distribution method you're unfamiliar with to succeed in an industry you're not a part of... is this right?the central scrutinizer wrote:I know people who are.the59king wrote:You seem pretty confident about that, Scrutinizer. You're out of your depth and talking out your ass.
I have no idea of a Moolah screening is a possibility for this film. I've never seen a film there, and don't know much about the venue; hell it might be the case that a screening there would be unlikely, and I have no problem with anyone who arrives at this conclusion. But when you say
I'm left to wonder how you came to possess the kind of insight that'd allow you to project the film's entire (apparently rather pathetic) distribution arc with such confidence.the central scrutinizer wrote:Most likely it will play the festival circuit, if at all. But now I know. You have friends in the business. No arguing with that.

Anyone here see the film at True/False in Columbia this weekend?
Saw this film yesterday at the MO History Museum. Really really liked it. I felt like it gave a very balanced perspective into the lives of people who lived in Pruitt Igoe--some times joyful, other times horrifying. Also it was really nice to see Pruitt-Igoe placed into the context of the dramatically changing geography of the city in the 1950s-70s. So often the place is described as if it was by itself, or was doomed to failure from within. In reality what happened there was as much about what was happening in Pruitt-Igoe itself as what was happening in the St. Louis region and America as a whole.
Anyone else see it? Thoughts?

Unfortunately, I wasn't at the STL premiere the yesterday, but I've seen quite a few scenes from the film. I think you nailed it. I can't remember if this was in the movie, but crime rates across the street from Pruitt-Igoe were higher even at the height of the P-I chaos. IMO - the imposing physical presence of P-I makes it an amazing projection of what was happening one, two, six buildings at a time all across St. Louis and elsewhere.
I urge you not to do it, but the comments on the Post-Dispatch regarding the film are disgusting and ignorant. Some say that we should again push all criminals and undesireables into small pockets in the city in order to protect the suburbs, they blame the residents and simply state that they would never let anyone vandalize their home (as residents at P-I did).
People should have to see this film. The nextSTL story I wrote is here: http://nextstl.com/north-st-louis/the-p ... an-history

I got my tickets to the Pruitt-Igoe myth for May 14th at noon. I seriously haven't been this excited about a movie in a long time. I'm sure it will be ultra depressing but still awesome.
