As some of you may know, intersections in may parts of St. Louis are now in HD on Google Street View, but there appear to many new areas of St. Louis covered. I assume they're new because some old whole streets (not just intersections) are now in HD. The streets that were previously covered are not in HD.

For example, much of the area around Park at S Grand appears to be new
Yes, this is an intersection, but some of the streets are in HD as well, which leads me to believe that it is new.

Have fun exploring!
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... 6,,0,-9.98

Also, take a look at Virginia at Park. If you look at the Virginia side of the street, you see boarded up windows. If you look at the Park side, you see the same. But in the HD view at the intersection, the rehab appears complete.

1710 S Jefferson Ave you see construction
You move to the intersection, and you see the completed building.

Pan around to see 6 Cupples Buildings

Bacon at Market Intersection not in HD

It's kind of ambiguous, but these 4th generation cameras are referred to as "near-HD." Ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Street_View#Cameras

1st st. and Chouteau is probably one of my favorite intersections in the city. I love how the railroad trestle straddles the building on the corner above the street sign

These "before and after" Streetview sightings are exactly why I continue running my blog. I think we all tend to consider certain areas of the city stable or "built out". Yet the city's density and famed architecture continue to disappear with no sound planning or design standards. Even in Soulard, several historic alley houses have been demolished and one building on 10th Street (circa 1870) was just proposed for demolition. We need to be more protective of our neighborhoods' built heritage--their investment opportunities.

I think of historic, but vacant buildings as "bookmarks" of sorts in the "story" of each urban block. We lose the narrative of the story by ridding of the bookmark.

Why does St. Louis allow demolitions, especially in or around historic districts, without a redevelopment plan? I fear that a vacant buildings registry is only going to increase the incentive for an owner of a vacant and deteriorating building to clear the lot.

And when demolition is proposed for the one standing building we'll be told that it lacks "context". a**holes.

This is a great building. This is a community center that has been around for ages and used to have a large pool under where there is now a basketball court indoors. There may still be a pool, as there is a somewhat strong chlorine smell.

One of my favorite corner buildings in the City... I really wish this could be rehabbed!
It's the old Hodgen Elementary. The "new" school is just to the left, or to the north. The school is still in pretty good shape, minus the peeling paint and few dead pigeons inside.

This building is owned by Bob Cassily, of City Museum fame. There is a bunch of decorative concrete sculptures around and behind that building.

^ Hey - you REALLY need to start documenting your Street View wanderings. Have you thought of putting all your work on a blog, adding it to the urbanSTL wiki? Maybe write up a blog post about some of your before and afters? You're obviously putting a ton of time into this so why not make it last?

I'm neither Catholic nor a SLU expert but I believe those are the names of Jesuit universities so maybe SLU has named something after them.

Well, I'm a little of both, and that one was a real poser (Monty Python word, not poseur). It was even more intriguing to see "Wheeling" across S. Grand.

As it turns out, a bit of SLU.com sleuthing reveals that all campus parking lots have names of Jesuit universities. Who knew?
