It would be nice if STL used a significant chunk of the Rams money to truly fund the LRA. Stop worrying about stabilization and actually rehab these properties. Build new housing on vacant LRA land. Tear down what is beyond saving. 

The money would stay on the balance sheet, just in the form of less liquid property. Sell it off over time or use it as consistent cash flow. Invest in yourself STL.

This church was absolutely gorgeous on the inside - no idea if it can be saved, the congregation merged with another about 4 years ago and sold this one. Hope it is not a complete loss, though I an not optimistic - With more development in the areas around it I thought it had a good chance at rehab

^It still might. Not sure how serious the fire was. Doesn't look good, but there was a pretty serious fire at St. Alphonsus Liguori some years back. (Cause by a lightning strike, I think it was.) It was repaired and even survived the chopping block in the latest round of closures. (Looks like Soulard's Sts. Peter and Paul did not. Nor the former St. George in Afton.)

I’m slow at work right now, so I started scouting empty lots and vacant buildings in the city. I kind of quickly started marking ones I would call high visibility, large scale, highest priority that if redeveloped, could spark the smaller rehabs and infill. I myself have been thinking about jumpstarting some kind of project around the city. It is editable by anyone with the link. Just an idea that we could maybe collaborate on something similar like this. I know the city has the vacancy tracker, but this was just more interactive to me. Somebody else might have a better way

Three new board bills geared towards impacting vacancy being introduced today:

Administrative Fines and Effective Code Enforcement for Vacant and Deteriorated Property - "An ordinance pertaining to administrative fines and effective code enforcement for vacant and deteriorated property, containing definitions and a severability clause."
Vacant Building Initiative Fund - "An ordinance pertaining to fines and code enforcement for vacant and deteriorated property, including increased fines for unsecured buildings and unlawful demolitions, directing monies from these fines to the City's existing Vacant Building Initiative Fund, and expanding the use of this fund, containing a severability clause."
Collection Methods - "An ordinance to reconcile collection methods with state statute by modifying existing ordinances to more effectively and timely recover amounts owed to the City for fines and improvement costs as special tax bills, containing an effective date and severability clause."
