Funny, felt the same after the reading the story.
At the same time, the BPV story was a let down compared to what was stated/slated in the near future for Grand Center. You get a decent infill project and the area would be on track to have comparable development to the first phase of BPV.

JACK GALMICHE & TEAM CREATING AN INTERACTIVE OUTDOOR SPACE IN GRAND CENTER DISTRICT
January 6th, 2011 | Author: Jerry Berger
Heralded by Jack Galmiche as “the only place in the country where arts, education and public media come together,” the Public Media Commons will be located between the Nine Network of Public Media, 3655 Olive St. and the new UMSL building. It will feature large-scale interactive audio/visual and cultural experiences and is being developed by four partnering nonprofits: the Nine Network of Public Media; UMSL-St. Louis, St.Louis Public Radio and Grand Center, Inc. Powers Bowersox partner Fred Powers has assembled a team that includes Ben Gilmartin and Randy Burkett, who previously served as design director on the Lincoln Center Promenade and Millenium Park in Chicago. Said UMSL vice chancelor Martin Leifeld, “Our faculty and students will work side by side with media professionals, neighbors and visitors from all of the world to create a public media environment that welcomes, informs and entertains.”

^Woo! I love this development. Should be a fantastic addition to the area! Looking forward to being able to (hopefully) watch the construction via photos here.

It would be really great if this was lit up at night in some fashion. I know that it might be more difficult to see than the other lit buildings on Grand, but it would still be nice. I would love it if there were kind of an assumption with future development in this area, that it all would be lit up at night.
Heck, even the sculptures in the park at Grand and Lindell get their own lights at night.

I think so. This is from Grand Center's monthly newsletter:Alex Ihnen wrote:You mean this month?framer wrote:Groundbreaking planned for February.
UMSL is breaking ground in February on their new facility on Olive, just east of KETC. Their new building
will be used for classes, community events AND it will become the home for the St. Louis Public Radio
Station, KWMU;
Groundbreaking scheduled for Friday, April 15th, 10:30AM.
Will Click & Clack, Ira Glass, or Diane Rehm be here for the groundbreaking? I love NPR!

^ I imagine the dedication in a year or so will be a big event, but the groundbreaking, no.

I hastily took this phone photo of the new KWMU headquarters construction this afternoon. Moving quickly!

Went to park in my normal GC parking lot and discovered the new KWMU building... What an excellent infill project an unexpected surprise (I have been out of the loop). Currently it has some sort of red primer/coating on it, which at the time I thought was going to be the color of the building, which excited me. Slightly disappointed to see in the renderings that it is going to be black. I do like the design, but seeing that red building really pop out brought an unintended vibrancy to that block of Olive. Couldn't snap any pics but I would suggest driving by in the next few days if you can. Don't know when it will go black

Once it does, it will likely never go back.magnatron wrote:Don't know when it will go black
Badum ching.
It must be a slow day. I laughed more than was necessary for that.
