Anybody know the status of Design Downtown St. Louis? How and when will this start being implemented? Or is this just another St. Louis plan that will collect dust?

Its adopted by the Planning Commission. There is really no catalysts within the City to push implementation. I assume once Greater STL INC hires their VP Downtown position that the person will lead that effort as part of their duties. I have some meetings with former elects next week to push for it
Hence my cynicism for the last year and a half. There is really no catalysts within the City to push implementation.
^ Thanks for sharing. The numbers are important. How many of those projects will move forward and how many will fall through?

^23/32 are underway or permit issued or activity seen on sight by a quick eyeball (some complete already like Hupp and Front Page Lofts)
They've been proposed for a while now. Not sure what the status is.pdm_ad wrote:BPV 2/3 and 7?

I know I am arguing semantics but I thought it was more of a plan than a proposal. Would love to hear if they've made any progress on the details since that announcement last Oct/Nov.

is the Moxy still happening? i assumed it had been abandoned.
^^ I thought I remember DeWitt saying in an interview he hopes to have the rest of BPV filled out in 3 to 6 years.
I also thought Chris had mentioned there was another residential tower in design quite a ways back, I’m sure they’re tinkering with different ideas. I still think he could move on another residential tower pretty quick, but my gut tells me he’s aiming to build out the remaining three blocks at once.

Sheesh
We’ve shown you the flashing lights, blood-stained floors and ongoing crime sprees in downtown St. Louis. However, people are still moving back East into the city. One local developer said he’s working to change the trajectory of the heart of St. Louis.

Says the toxic news company that's leaving downtown.
Good riddance.

Take out that opening statement and it is a really good article and story imo. A developer investing in downtown & city talking about the advantage of downtown in an inflationary environment (buildings already in hand) and how you tackle problems, reusing the building stock & bring people back into the area!!! while not sugar coating or being in denial about existing issues.Suds wrote: ↑May 11, 2022https://www.kmov.com/2022/05/09/develop ... -downtown/

^ Add to that, KMOV is really the only station that I've seen regularly reporting on the boom happening in Midtown and other parts of the city. They do love to sensationalize but which media outlet doesn't.
City of Chicago implementing a curfew for minors on weekend unless accompanied by an adult.
Been saying for months Downtown STL needs this ASAP. When I was a kid in Chicago we had it and it worked and made Downtown safer.
This weekend I was walking on Michigan Avenue when the killing of the 16 year old happened. I was on my way to go watch the Chicago Symphony and no lie there were over 100 kids at millennium park and on michigan acting their age with no adults in sight. It was sad that a kid had to die.

we can have all the laws we want but when STL does not have enough cops to respond in a timely fashion to more serious crimes unfortunately a curfew law will be just that a law
Not to throw in the towel regarding this issue but lets be real about enforcing a curfew law

Irony is that STL has more then enough cops. In fact the most per square mile. Lesson here is unless you have 2 per each block they aren’t going to prevent anything. 2 dealers aren’t exactly meeting in front of SLMPD hq to hand off coke.mikenewell48 wrote: ↑May 16, 2022we can have all the laws we want but when STL does not have enough cops to respond in a timely fashion to more serious crimes unfortunately a curfew law will be just that a law

IMO one of the best ways to get a handle on this problem is to give every household with kids below the poverty line a cheaper last gen Xbox with some cheap but addicting games. I can't imagine the kind of sh*t I would have gotten into as a teen if I wasn't too busy grinding a woodcutting skillcape in Runescape.

Honestly, this would be a cool WWT // City-County // Maryville program. You could probably have an event where these could be claimed at an eSports convention. Or I'm just trying to manifest something like this to happen too, hah
Video game company levels up in downtown St. Louis

The company moved three blocks east from the Ludwig Lofts and signed a three-year lease at the Laclede Gas Building, at 720 Olive Street, in downtown's central business district. Enchanted Mob occupies around 30,000 square feet, or two floors, at the building.
.........
Many of its employees live downtown, and the company has been able to hire recent graduates from Webster University and Washington University, he said. "There's a ton of creative people in St. Louis," Vogl said. "You don't have to be in L.A. or New York to make content that you care about."
This is cool. Space, Medical, Finance, and Gaming gives hope of diversification.sc4mayor wrote:Video game company levels up in downtown St. Louis

A cop car pulled up in front of Kiener Plaza on Saturday evening and just sat there for hours, never getting out of the car or doing anything. Stuff like that runs counter to the "not enough cops" argument. To never move or engage or anything for hours on a Saturday night when there's tons of activity, why exactly are we paying them for that?
The past week or so it seems like there's been a lot of gunplay downtown.
A killing a week ago at Soldiers Memorial.
A double shooting at 15th and Chestnut at 5:30 am Sunday morning.
A shooting at Soldier's Memorial Sunday morning at 10:45.
Teens fighting and shooting Sunday night as the Cards game got out.

If that is the case why are our response times so high? If cops don’t respond to calls on time the chance of catching suspects becomes a lot more difficult in many cases, and leads to these people committing crimes over and over.dbInSouthCity wrote:Irony is that STL has more then enough cops.
