This was reported today by Martin Van Der Werf of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Bruce Mills, of Mills Properties, apparently is ready to go forward with a new apartment complex at the corner of West Pine and Euclid Avenue, according to people familiar with his plans. He acquired the Doctor's Building last fall, and plans to knock it down to make way for his project, which may include a building as tall as 12 stories. Mills also did not return calls seeking comment.

Ironically, I called Mills last week and inquired about a website. All she could tell me is, "We are working on it". No address or anything.

When I asked about the Doctor's Building site, she told me there were no immediate plans because all of the attention was being focused on The Highlands at this time, but Mills does own the building.

I thought Balke Brown was doing the Highlands...

Balke-Brown is doing The Highlands project. Perhaps I misunderstood what other project Mills was referring to during my contact. Are BB and Mills partnering on The Highlands' hotel?

From today?s business Journal Bruce Mills will double his proposal at Euclid and West Pine in the form of a 30 story 317 unit (179 apartments and 138 condos) devopment. Preselling should begin in January and construction could start in May. Mills plans to seek a 15 million in tax increment financing (TIF).

Now a 30 story tower, rendering in todays Business Journal. That makes 4 highrises proposed or under construction within 4 blocks- Could this stretch West demand to its limits?

That's fantastic. I like the rendering as well, it definitely has a modern look to it. It looks like there will be a large glass atrium in the front.

Wow, cool. Is this what is supposed to replace the Doctor's Building?

I wonder how long it will be before we see an article arguing that the building's height will clash with the neighborhood. But it is fantastic. This neighborhood is really booming. If only we could get a building like that on one of those parking lots next to the Chase.

Nice looking building! I was waiting for word on its progress. More than I expected. Very nice. Thanks, Citylover.

Am I hearing this correctly? Another 30-story tower going up in the CWE?

At this rate, Clayton's looking like it has some competition for West End supremacy.

BTW, the original plan was for a 12-story and 5-story building on the site.

I wish there was such a thing as a city commission on naming buildings. Another "Renaissance"?? puh-leeze

My hope is that the CWE becomes so dense with residential towers that all those living in Clayton have their views of downtown (mainly the arch) blocked.

Really awesome news. I'm a little disappointed with the design-- it looks rather bulky to me. I was hoping for something more innovative. But I'll take it. I wish it was on the big surface lot across the street, but I won't complain!

More exciting news. Really exciting! Certainly nicer than the Doctor's Building! I agree that Renaissance is a poor name. Overused. It is a hotel brand name. And it implies bringing back the neighborhood. This neigbhorhood isn't being brought back. It is already on top. Anyway, whatever, I will take it.

While I'm excited about the building, and the confidence in the company to propose a 30 story building, I'm not a big fan of the design. I'm with Gasm in that is just seems a little bulky to me. Plus, I think there is so much need for innovative retro styling in the CWE, that this building completely misses the mark.

IMO, Park East did it right with their homage to the Art Deco style all around the West End. This building looks like a cross between the Crescent and Maryland Walk in Clayton. I want something that looks more like it belongs in a historical district, rather than an overgrown office park.

Hmm...I like the design as it is in the rendering. It does resemble Maryland Walk, which I think is attractive. I just don't like MW's blinding shiny glass in its rendering.

I would love to see one of these CWE residential towers emulate something like the Southside National Bank, but, hey, this "Renaissance" is nice too.

Did they note any new retail space in this project? With four new towers within a few blocks, this huge influx of new people will certainly effect the retail climate on Euclid.

Wow, that's a fat looking building. Fat, dripping with people... mmm... and so much chocolate... sweet, and tasty, dark mexican chocolate... This is such great news... great...

Do you think the success of the CWE will move east to Midtown, and then combine with the success of downtown?

They plan on having a restaurant with outside seating on the ground floor. There will also be a 6 level parking garage on the back of the building.

The article won't be online until Sunday evening.
