Parking lot infill there makes so much sense for the surrounding area. I'd love to see more vibrancy around EC during events.

Still think the stature and prominence of the muni courts building is way too much to waste on a hotel or residential. My ideal use would be a class A museum. Ideally an expansive second campus for the history museum, a world class natural history museum, and expansion of the Soldiers Memorial Museum, or a museum centered around black history.
It's a perfect location already, convenient to visitors with existing parking solutions. Certainly a pipe dream but man would some big exhibit banners look good hanging off the front of that building.

^ That is an absolutely fantastic idea. And much better than a hotel or apartments. Basically an extension of the History Museum along with Soldiers Memorial. It may be a pipe dream, but I would say one of the more reasonable ones on this site. The History Museum couldn't go it alone, but if they partnered with a developer and could raise some private funds...it wouldn't be that difficult if it wasn't for the economic disaster that was just laid upon us.
A good case could definitely be made for it I would think. I would imagine the building is much better suited for conversion to a museum with it's larger open rooms and spaces than a hotel or apartments.

Which reminds me...whatever happened to that proposal for the Smithsonian branch museum? I believe the Municipal Courts building was one of the proposed sites, along with one or more of the Cupples buildings, and Union Station. It's been a long time, but I never heard any resolution on that (and it was a very long-term proposal).GoHarvOrGoHome wrote: ↑Apr 15, 2020Still think the stature and prominence of the muni courts building is way too much to waste on a hotel or residential. Regarding Moxy, I messaged the developer. If I hear back, I’ll post
This project was moved to the back burner loft of the developer. They (Hawkeye Hotels) will look over the project later this year with the potential of breaking ground in Early 2021. Design work is completed though.
Anyone heard any updates on this? Is it dead or still on the back burner?
Still on back burner but increasingly less likely to happen as time goes on. With the 21C Hotel and Shell Building conversions advancing, that takes a bite out of any future hotel demand Downtown. Not to mention that the Le Meridien hasn't formally opened yet (Marriott's website shows a June opening). I'd guess the success of Le Meridien will determine whether or not we see Moxy return.MRNHS wrote: ↑Apr 30, 2021Anyone heard any updates on this? Is it dead or still on the back burner?

^Does the momentum in the area bode well for a rebirth of the Moxy plan? Is this land owned by the developer? Any word on this site and/or the Moxy project?
According to city property records it looks like the land is owned by Hawkeye Hotels, the company behind the project. I would think area momentum bodes well for restarting the project, but that's only my opinion not inside information.DogtownBnR wrote: ↑Jun 29, 2022^Does the momentum in the area bode well for a rebirth of the Moxy plan? The hotel company also owns and recently renovated Le Méridien. Maybe now that it's finished, they have resources (time/budget/manpower) to get going on Moxy.

the site is the only parking for the hotel next door, so unless they're planning a 3-4 story garage as part of the new hotel i dont think this moves forward anytime soon

What about the old AT&T garage. I thought that was now administered by StL Parking (see 909 Chestnut thread). Hotel could lease spaces there.
note* not actually sure if it ever was sold or what the arrangement may be since according to GeoStLouis it still shows owned by SW Bell

The original plan didn't include a garage for the existing hotel, so I'm not sure that would now be required to move this forward should Hawkeye want to continue. It did appear to have a small surface lot behind it though. If they're catering to business travelers and convention goers, I'd image you'd have a sizable portion of folks arrive by ride share or carpooling. I'm not sure a garage would even be necessary. And as STLE points out, plenty of spaces available across the street.

^ Ah, good catch. Still, I'd imagine they could find some spaces in the old AT&T garage if it came to that.

So, is this project officially back from the dead? I've noticed some chatter about it on Twitter recently.

I'd be absolutely thrilled to see another new-build project in downtown. Hope this is actually happening.
I'm really hoping that we see a boom of new development downtown as the historic buildings are finally about done. I think the RX Building is the last really big one left. New buildings are really what changes people's perception of a cities downtown. I was driving through Nashville recently and it's amazing how large their skyline has gotten in the last 5 years or so. Nashville doesn't have a third of the historic stock we have. Their downtown is all new modern buildings, but the perception of it being a modern, progressive city is shown in it's skyline. With our mix of historic buildings, a new crop of modern high rises would make our skyline even better. That block sized historic warehouse with 300 apartments is only 10 stories here, in Nashville it translates to a 300-400 ft. tall skyscraper.RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Sep 11, 2023I'd be absolutely thrilled to see another new-build project in downtown. This will be a great project if it gets done. This will compliment the 909 rehab nicely. If we can get RX, Mike Shannon's and Millennium done, we'll be on our way. Then we can start talking about new construction, BP2, etc. I'd like to see our major corporations and developers band together to bring Downtown back!
I'm really torn about how Nashville has grown/exploded. In a number of ways I'm jealous to see what they've done in the last decade. But then when I drive or walk around I think to myself "No effing way/This place sucks now."goat314 wrote: ↑Sep 11, 2023I'm really hoping that we see a boom of new development downtown as the historic buildings are finally about done. This is so true. Unfortunately, it seems that our corporate community has established most of our regional wealth on the I-270 corridor. We could only dream what downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods would be like if half of those office had been built downtown.DogtownBnR wrote: ↑Sep 11, 2023This will be a great project if it gets done.
