My vote is for the arcade.

The only thing is...the bay windows of the Arcade will be retail space only. There will be none in the residentail units. The Alexa on the other hand will have bay windows...except the bay windows will be in the kitchen/dining areas & the unit I saw, will not have much room for a reading chair. Still looking for my perfect place. Have you found one yet?[/quote]

I'd shoot for close enough to perfect otherwise you may always be sitting on the sidelines.

If you read back a few more posts, we were talking about that retail space with the bays being a Borders bookstore, not a residence.

I'm referencing her post that goes back even further which said:

And...it depends on your idea of "a better view." The Arcade is surrounded by other tall building (except the OPO) where the Ford will have unobstructed views in 4 directions.

I'm still looking for the perfect place and so far, have yet to find it.

Although, I do like that the Ford has balconies & private elevators, but their kitchen placement & layout are not ideal, in my opinion, kind of tucked away with only 1 of the 4 walls open to the living area.

I read that, too, and thought it funny at first. What they actually meant was one piece...contiguous, as opposed to hard. One piece granite/cormica etc is top notch, all the way. That is an upgrade on an upgrade.

Are you suggesting that they should they be using plastic laminate???

Was dragged down to America's center for the Bridal Show they had yesterday. Some random thoughts as a sat outside waiting for my fiance' as she talked to her friends and I stood there with a totebag full of brochures.

- I realized just how friggin close the building is to the dome. I would guess to say with a noon start Rams game you could walk out the front door at 11:45am and be in your seat before kickoff. Though with those full-body searches they do now, 11:15 might be more appropriate.

- If I were a Rams player, I'd buy a condo in that building.

- Has there be any talk as to where resident parking will be? Will they use that old convention center/Dillard garage since there's already a sky bridge? I assume some upgrades would be in order: it's pretty scary in there.

-It looks like there's a lot to work to do. I'm no expert but new windows and a lot of tuckpointing work is probably in order.

-But once it's done, the remodeling of this building will be great. Convention attendees and football fans entering and leaving the convention center will have a lot better feeling about the area.

Just kidding - I had to go to that show last year.

There used to be a garage directly behind the Dillard's Building, but it was torn down maybe five years ago. How often does a garage get torn down in St. Louis?

Totally. If they can get some good retail on the first floor - a bar or restaurant - I would imagine it would be a very good game-day site.

The billboards look great, and the article in the Ladue News was nice. Now, does anyone know when that freaking skybridge will come down? :P

Maybe, except that they practice out in Earth City. During the season, they have 10 home games (including preseason), but around 5 1/2 months of practice. I don't think accessibility to the dome is a consideration for Rams players.

Good point. A lot of them rent apartments in Creve Coeur around Olive/Craig. Seems to be a good balance between Rams Park, the airport and the dome downtown.

At some point, it'll get torn down. My only goal at this point is that I'm alive to see it.

And for those of you that don't know me well, that gives Pyramid a rather generous timetable- eleven years to be exact!

And, it gives me a glimmer of hope, that maybe they'll do something with the Mercantile Library before my Mini-Me begins college.

If it takes that long, will someone here please keep me up-to-date? We'll probably be living in Europe by then. :P

One more thing...a little bit of building history...and a look at a much younger Deanne Lane of KSDK...

February 1, 1984- Stix Baer & Fuller bought by Dillard's

A few observations-

- I wish the SBF plaques were still on the building, and I wonder if someone preserved them by putting them in storage. It was a nice touch when Macy's decided to leave at least some of the Famous Barr plaques intact on their downtown store.

- Notice the unbridled optimism of Stix employees, and that of Mr. Dillard himself. The sad thing is, after Dillard's closed the store and reopened it one year later (1985), they barely invested another dime in the store. I was too young to make such a valid observation, but I know my parents/grandparents said Stix's quality declined over the years. In retrospect, however, Dillard's did little to improve the downtown store despite an extensive renovation of the first four levels.

- I still wish Pyramid could attract a major retailer to occupy most if not all of the first floor space!
