I finally got to the new Gelateria over the weekend. The gelato is exceptional, but I knew it would be from their downtown location. What I was most impressed with was the renovation. It's old world and contemporary at the same time and that's an impressive feat in that space. The dark wood and historic looking light fixtures paired with the leather chairs definitely is an upgrade for South Grand. Commercial districts tend to have personalities that change and shift over time. I'm hoping that this is the new direction South Grand is heading. I predict nothing but success.

Sweet. I haven't been by there in awhile, so I'm glad to hear the Grand location is finally open! I need to check it out ASAP!

Good to hear, will have to stop by over spring break. Can't wait to see what the owners do next. I think they have some plans brewing in south city (somewhere around Gravois and Arsenal?)

I'm very glad that my girlfriend lives a short walk away from the new location! The new space is as comfortable and attractive as the downtown spot. I really like the milk glass pendant lights in the Grand location -- elegant and able to provide a diffused soft light that makes the place a perfect spot for sitting a few hours.

I'm glad to see something in this building. I've never had gelato, so I'll have to try it next time I'm in town.

I believe it's the building on the very far left in this photo

I was there a few weeks ago. the place looks incredible. Huge fan of the open storefront windows. First time I tried Gelato, great stuff. Is it healthier than ice cream?

^ It's a bit healthier than ice cream, sure. According to the FDA, ice cream must at least 10% butterfat to be labeled ice cream and 15% for premium. Gelato usually runs no more than 7% butterfat.

The Gelateria on Washington at 14th has new owners -- and a really shiny new floor.

Business is definitely better at the S Grand store.

I thought the two stores had the same owner? The South Grand location does seem to stay busy. I was there this past Saturday - very cold, rainy night and at least 20 people came through while we were there (15mins). Steady crowd for a crappy night.

Jonathon and Amanda Andrus - Downtown residents purchased the Gelateria last week. It is a good thing. The location is doing very well - not as busy as SG but it is a very different market.

They have a few improvements that will be rolled out over the next few months including later hours.

Jon is a Downtown CID guide and Amanda was a manager at The Tea Room.

They are both great people who will work very hard to make the Gelateria a huge success.

So did the two stores have the same owner previously?

Yes, they did have the same owners. A couple named Chris and Dana, don't remember their last name. Very nice people though. I remember when they first opened the Wash Av. location and when they were in the planing stage for the location on S. Grand. Not sure if they are still the owners of the S, Grand location though, but I assume so.

I believe I met Chris once at the WashAve location before the SGrand was open. Who knows/has an idea as to why they would sell this location and not keep it?

They have changed their name to Gelateria Tavolini.

I love that there's still a Gelateria on Washington, just a few blocks from me, despite the name and ownership change! Yay for pineapple and caramel gelato for dinner!

However, I really, really don't understand how restaurants, bars and eateries continue to omit basic information from their websites like hours of operation, the smoking situation, driving AND transit directions, and true online menus (not 50 pdfs to open for each course). I know that the Gelateria Tavolini just went through a huge change, so their website probably is not top-of-mind, and perhaps it will be updated once they get their bearings again... but it's really true of so many restaurant sites. Sooooo not customer friendly. :/

The original owners are expecting a child and wanted to reduce the stress. Dana is in a wheelchair - not sure why - and this is a very delicate situation for them right now.

Nothing wrong with the location or business. They did not advertise the place was for sale - they know Jonathon and Amanda and felt the situation was right for all of them. Sometimes things just work out for the best.

There were freshly baked (i.e., just out of the oven) muffins this morning at Gelateria at 8 am.
