Wow, the sight of Kevin Slaten swinging his purse at another man will do wonders for his career!

P-D article says Slaten won't be charged.

No assault charge filed against Slaten

By Bill Bryan

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

Thursday, Nov. 30 2006

The St. Louis circuit attorney's office decided Wednesday not to file a felony

assault charge against radio talk-show host Kevin Slaten. A St. Louis man had

accused Slaten of striking him in the head with a bottle — although witnesses

and a surveillance camera disclosed it was a purse — during a heated quarrel

Sunday night in the Dubliner, a restaurant and bar at 1025 Washington Avenue,

police said.

The man, 30, was treated for a corneal abrasion of his left eye at

Barnes-Jewish Hospital, police said.

Slaten was booked on suspicion of second degree assault and fingerprinted and

photographed on Wednesday morning after his lawyer, Chet Pleban, brought him to

the Central Patrol station. However, when police applied for a warrant

Wednesday afternoon, it was refused.

"We did not have enough evidence to prosecute the case," said Jeannette

Graviss, who runs the warrant office for Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce.

The man told police he and Slaten, who works for KFNS (590 AM, 100.7 FM), were

talking and he asked Slaten why he was not critical of the Post-Dispatch's

coverage of college sports until after his son went to the University of

Missouri at St. Louis, where he played basketball.

Slaten became angry, the man told police, and challenged him to stand up and

repeat what he had said. Police said employees moved to restrain Slaten and the

man, and that Slaten grabbed a nearby purse and struck the man as the man was

being held.

You mean with broken chairs, bloody noses and afterwards, all the protagonists drinking beer together?

What a great story! What kind of sissy picks up a purse and hits someone with it? I guess his next move would have been to scratch at his eyes.

It's an unfortunate miracle that this bozo still has a career.

If you have a tape of one man hitting another man with a purse, how do you not have evidence?

They may have considered that he swung his purse in self defense?

He should have been there yesterday. the place was FULL of Da Bears fans. He would have got a knuckle sandwich if he swung a purse at that bunch.

Tried their Boxty. Was well worth it :)

The only grouse I have is that in order to fill your stomach, you have to have an Appetizer and a meal. Just the meal is not enough.

Boxty on the griddle,

Boxty in the pan,

If you can't make boxty,

You'll never get a man.

Are you asking me to change my sexual preference? :P

Heh........ That limerick is actually in an Irish cookbook that I have, which specifically ties in some of the traditional Irish dishes with folklores.

A group of friends visited the bar on Saturday for lunch. We all agreed that it wasn't what we were hoping for but we really couldn't put our collective finger on why?

It's an odd place...which isn't good for being Irish.

Some thought the music was the problem (it was so loud you couldn't hear the person next to you). One thought it was an interior decorating problem - colors are bad, display of jerseys makes it look like a clothing store, not enough flags -- too sparse and generic stuff. The restrooms were dirty and torn up, the food was blah, no menu to speak of, the beer was fairly expensive.

What a huge disappointment. My opinion is that they were trying for a warm, clubby feel but ran out of funds to completely pull it off. The place is cold and stark when compared.

The restrooms are a disaster for such a new place. At least put up some friggin' dividers for the urinals, for Pete's sake.

I was trying to figure out what the problem with the place is as well. My theory is that an Irish pub is better suited for a cozy space like McGurk's than a loft space. It's still a pretty good bar though.

I was there the first week and the bathrooms were trashed. Plus they had no Baileys and didn't know what a snakebite was and couldn't even do a half and half right.

I've been back a few times and every time it's been a "meh" experience. Bad food, service etc. I want to like The Dubliner, I just can't get over their problems.

They have the road front in front of The Dub tore up. Cannot be good for business.

I wonder how long the street is going to be in this shape.

The beer is expensive, but I have been to places where I paid a lot more for good beer. I love the food there, but do understand that different people have different opinions.

I agree that the bathrooms are in sad shape for such a new place, and the menu is short, but I've been there a few times and I thought the food was pretty good. The Guinness stew is wonderful! It's a new place... hopefully they'll expand the menu.

I went on Monday for the first time, though I walk by it every day. It was almost completely empty at 1:00. The waiter was very friendly, but he insisted on explaining simple menu items to us. Didn't get the mustard we asked for. Fries were cold. Bread to corned-beef ratio on the sandwich drove me to eat it open-faced. I gotta tell you, I want this place and every other place in the city to do well (except possibly for the Applebees on Forest Park PKWY), but I think it needs to make up its mind whether it wants to be a club or a bar/restaurant. Right now it seems like a club/giant warehouse bar that incidentally sells food whenever the cook is awake.

Ate there last night for the first time in a while. Their menu has expanded a lot since it was first open. That's a great thing. Bartenders/waiters friendly as always... I had the corned beef sandwich too and liked it although I understand your thoughts on the bread/corned beef ratio. I think it's because the restaurant is designed to be more "fancy." These places usually have smaller amounts of higher quality food and I'm fine with that.

The dart boards and pool table are a nice touch. But going up to the 2nd level makes you feel a little lonely. I think there's a bar up there as well but it's probably only open when busy up there. Perhaps I should check out a show there sometime and see what it's like.

I think we all want the place to succeed. Anyway, just my 2 cents...

Thanks man. I love that place and would like to see it succeed. Some of the issues here should be easily fixable.
