Mark Mehlman is understandably excited these days. He and partner Josh Corson recently put the finishing touches on their toney Carondelet Plaza mid-rise, The Crescent. Located in the posh cul-de-sac it shares with the The Plaza in Clayton and The Ritz-Carlton, The Crescent’s 72 units are well on their way to being full, Mehlman reports.
“After almost two years of construction, The Crescent has risen,” says Mehlman. “We are so proud of how it has turned out, exactly as we envisioned it.”
The $73 million, mixed-use development features residential units ranging in size from 2,200 to 3,500 square feet. “We are 70 percent sold, so initial response was fantastic, but there are still plenty of great units available,” says Mehlman. Some residents have already moved in and are enjoying the building’s many amenities. “Everything is finished and fully staffed. The club room, fitness center, lobby, everything to make residents settling in feel right at home.”
Its mid-rise lifestyle has made The Crescent an appealing choice for a variety of buyers, Mehlman reports. “We have families with young children, young professionals, empty nesters and seniors. They were all attracted to the location, the amenities and the convenience,” he says.
The Crescent will host a grand opening celebration Jan. 26 and 27. “We cannot wait. We’re so excited to show the community what wonderful work has been done here,” Mehlman says. Potential buyers and those just curious about what all the construction has been about will have the chance to tour completed model units, meet staff, and check out on-site perks such as the completed lobby area, club room and fitness center. “The tours of completed units will allow people to really get an idea of what life in the building would be like.”
Whether you plan on moving in or not, chances are you will eventually experience the dining and shopping offered at the building’s ground-floor storefronts. Upscale boutiques like Lusso, Elements of Denim and Sweet Petunia are side by side with epicurean spots Extra Virgin, Kaldi’s Coffee and Araka. “From the beginning we called it St. Louis’ ‘Rodeo Drive,’ and that is really what it has turned into,” Mehlman beams. “The spots open so far were chosen carefully and have been met with rave reviews.” He explains that their concept was to create a buzz of activity. “We think this is the most exciting mixed-use development in Clayton history.”
Mehlman says part of the excitement of seeing work on The Crescent come to a close is that it signals the beginning of his next project, Carondelet Village. “It’s going to be adjacent to The Crescent to the east and include even more retail, a boutique hotel and an office building. In this business, it’s always something new.”
